SYNOPSIS
A 30 day, 620 km canoe journey through the expansive wilderness of Côte-Nord, Quebec. The route is designed to traverse the headwaters of the Romaine River, a river seeing significant change as part of Quebec’s major energy project Plan Nord, followed by the descent of the little-known Aguanish River. The goal of the route is to gain a first-hand perspective of the land of wild rivers as we paddle and portage our way across the Labrador-Quebec plateau to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

I always enjoy watching a good ol' slog from the comfort of my bed - Thanks for another great Episode
You mean in your cave?
@@robpumphrey4302 With Gustavo?
That’s one you don’t miss huh? Xander as a fellow recovering sober man, I really enjoy your videos. I’m down here in Mississippi, but I wish I could get out and enjoy the colder climates like you do in the fall and winter! But I find your channel inspirational. I liked it before I found that out, but that made me feel another connection to it. And I just found this channel through yours, and I love these guys’ sense of adventure Great job all of you!!
As soon as a Northern Scavenger video pops up, my immediate reaction is, "Hell yeah!" Thank you for doing what you do. Great work guys.
I second this comment
Those flies added structural integrity to the patch
This series speaks to the power of storytelling. Beautifully captured to be truly immersive, engaging, and inspiring!
I’m watching this series with my 7 year old son. He wants to grow up to take adventures like you. He did however keep saying “I feel bad for them” as you slogged through the bog. I told him it is all part of the adventure and makes the beach camping even sweeter.
It began to look look like a re-enactment of the old movie The African Queen! Love you adventure!!
Great time my friend. I appreciate your constant life philosophie . In your video no easy way but taste the moment . You are like a soldier in your camp, everything is clean and organize. 👍
U guys have some insane mental strength. To keep going after all of this is just a lesson to me that no matter how hard life gets, u have to keep going. Respect to you guys.
I love how such simple things like a whiskey sour can bring such joy on a trip like this. makes me smile
That blackfly and fiberglass patch was incredible👌
For the mother of all portages, I always think of your Labrador trip. That was the most brutal portage I've ever seen. That must also bring some hope to you all knowing that, "I've been through worse.".
What a great video, that bog would've probably finished me, or, the whiskey would've been finished!!
Right about 20:10 most of us mortals would have had a complete melt down. I sincerely admire the ability you guys have to remain calm and carry on through some tough situations. Bravo!
As someone who has also travelled across a height of land in northern Quebec, I have to comment on the incredible difficulty of portaging across bogs and more specifically, peat moss. Each step you take is sucked down and heavily absorbed into the moss, taking atleast double (if not way more!) the energy as you walk, especially carrying heavy packs and gear. Not to mention the bugs and permanently wet feet lol.. well done lads!! Great call on heading for the river (we made a similar decision on our trip) the joy of finding moving water after being in a bog for multiple days is something to behold. Loving this series so far.. bringing back beautiful memories and inspiration to get out there. Phenomenal storytelling and cant wait for the next episode. The Romaine River!!!
I’ve been on my share of tough trips and know how hard it is to keep your spirits up and remain civil with one another. These two are just phenomenal in that regard. Excellent work you guys.
Pretty brutal , oh man but that camp ground was well worth it!!
Yes 3 new episodes to catch up on!!! What an awesome series so far and the best content on youtube for this genre!!! Party on boys!!!!
Every episode gets better. The campsite on Lac Brûlé was stunning. Looking forward to the next video already.
Your mental power is outstanding. Tnx a million for an inspiring video!
Tough slog today, boys! This is what us girls add to our shepard's pie...add a 1/2 pkg of stove stop stuffing - top with gravy! Give it a try on your next adventure! Great video, Noah and Matt! Cheers on the whiskey sours!
Thanks for the idea Sherrie :)
So rewarding to see you guys pull up to a magical camp site after a morning of slog. Just reminds you to have a positive outlook and that the current situation is temporary.
Spot on Darren
Oh my gosh you’s so deserved that beach site and the whiskey sours. Incredible slogging. Amazing pics of the beautiful country side. Thanks so much for taking us along😘
I can't believe this channel doesn't have more subscribers and get more views. Love the content!
Awesome as always, you should be on Netflix and actually show the beauty of Canada that not many people see.
I really appreciate the geological side-info we get from you. Thnx man👌
This series is just insane! A pleasure to watch it
That is some crazy expedition guys! I'd have called SAR to come get me away from all those bugs 🤪 the patch work on the canoe looks good full of blackflies 🤣
The light at the end of the tunnel.
I applaud your mental attitude in the face of tough going. A lot of folks in these situations really secretly wish they were elsewhere but you both radiate such a resplendent joy at being in harsh nature that viewers like me are truly transported into the heart of the adventure. Bravo.
Thanks for the kind words David
I just met this man today while out atving he walked for days such a nice guy keep up the good vids brother !!!
Wow! That perfect peninsula camp site!! Beauty eh👍🏼
Just Amazing!!!!!!!!!!! The Memories you guys are making with Us along for the ride! Thank you.. Vic
If this was in Georgia there would be sooooooo many spiders/webs...and snakes. Good work boys
You guys are the real deal!
I like your bug barrier, but I don't think I want to try it out, thank you. Thanks also for the great entertainment. Blessings.
Thank you guys 😊
Thank you for the upload!! The burn area you went through was interesting -- I wonder what those same burn locations will look like 50 years from now. Assuming these videos are still available on YT in 50 years - its cool to think that someone could do a before and after video on this kind of place and really get a sense of how the burned landscape adapts over time. Great video as always!!
Also I love the dead flies stuck forever in the patch job -- really adds character to your boat :)
You can find out. For every region, there is a number. When we got to James Bay many years ago, there was a sign saying in the region, trees lasted 110 years on average before burning. Because it was pretty far north, those 110 years didn't mean much growth at all. The trees were barely bigger than me and you could uproot them with a single kick. I'm sure Hydro-Québec or the government has a number for that region.
Son of a Bog, it's type 2 fun now.
commenting to boost you guys via the Al Gore Rhythm. I am buying a used canoe off craigslist tonight! Lost my old Grumman to some class 2 wave trains last march.
Hopefully this one will make it through the wave train 🤙
The best part was you eating shepherds pie out of your cocktail glasses
😂
That last campsite was like being served a chocolate lava cake for dessert after having to eat mashed turnips and beets all day 😆
That shepherds pie looked delicious and I’m not even hungry
That bog tho!!! ✊
Noah I always enjoy your geology tutorials. I never knew what a kame was or a esker. Thanks!
That bog portage looked overwhelming.
Money episode guys. Thank you.
Love the black flies in the patch!😀
You guys drag that boat like a couple of northern oxen!
I've sat here scratching myself with all of those midges. Another superb episode.
A very hard day for a camp site of a life time, so well done boys…
Great episode. Always looking forward to the next. 🙂
The bugs looked wicked. Reminded me of the times I worked in the bush.
You really got some will power to pull through that insane bush! Glad for you guys your were rewarded by a awesome campsite!
best canadian wilderness trekking series i've watched on youtube so far... other than the technology used for documenting it this could be any time in history and the story of natives, trappers, explorers of any generation ... even the French song was pretty cool 18:00
lmfao... " how long do you think it will take us to get there ? " ..... took Moses 40 years... came to mind ...🤔🤪
First time viewer, nice production, good adventure. 👍
Looks like my crossing by kayak of Seward Peninsula in Alaska!
Thanks for all the laughs through your hardships. Cocktails and shepherds pie with gravy were def the highlights.
The Epicness continues!!
awesome documentation in E3 and E 4 of Lac Brule , Lac Lavoie and Senecal. We have been at our camp for 35 years and have seen canoeist like yourselves come through but since Quebec Hydro, you have to do what you two did to be purist in the sense of following a river system not infiltrated by technology and taking the route that you did. Looking forward to the next episode!
Mark Switaj
You guys make the best videos. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Appreciate it Gerald
Ah 40 Creek! Lets hear it for Grimsby!
Still cracking up at the whiskey sours with the gummy candy garnish. You go, boys!
Another great episode, I loved the structural blackflies in the canoe repair. I am looking forward to seeing the Brule Sour on a cocktail bar menu!
Tequila and diluted lemon lime Gatorade powder makes a pretty good hiking Margherita
Man I can barely imagine what a joy that beach was after what you went through.
As for the hydro dams, it’s a real pity that majestic rivers have to be dammed. When I was young there was huge push back against some massive projects, but end of the day, we can’t use coal, oil, even natural gas for some people, but we need power. Even the protestors use power. Hydro electric isn’t 100%guilt free, but it’s one of the best we got. Solar, and the like aren’t guilt free either, they’re unreliable, still need coal and the like to back them up, and stupid expensive. If you’re concerned about Canadian rivers, look into why the Canadian population is growing faster than any other western countries. Then ask the gov to stop bringing in 300k plus per year. There won’t be a river left at this rate. Anyway, sorry, this video isn’t about that. Thanks for posting, I love your videos, and I love when you give us little geological lessons.
Jim, you're right. Humans are the most destructive of all creatures. Always enjoy your insights. Cheers, Noah
My legs hurt on that portage....I can't imagine how you were feeling. The whisky Brules must have went down smooth, even with the over sour. Another star video. Can't believe I have to wait another week. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Jim !
Another awesome episode ! I tell ya man, I love being out there camping and stuff but NL/Northern Que must have the worst/most amount of bugs I've ever seen. My eyes water while watching those bug clips haha Cheers !
I love following your progress. Thank you! greetings
Greetings
That was one difficult journey, not for the week of heart
Love what you’re doing and love your French speaking! Following you from Québec!
Merci beaucoup
Schöne Gegend, freundliche Grüße
Wow, you guys are the best of the best! Thank you for that awesome episode!!!
Thumbs up for keeping it real and respecting the land. Take care all
Man. This is a good series.
Thank you for posting your canoe story. Looking forward to more episodes. This brings me back to many of my own canoe trips . All my trips are documented on slides. You guys filming and aerial point of view makes it fantastic. I remember many physical days followed by swim laundry and great campsite and supper. Like you said it resets the clock. Cheers
Fascinating topography and info about same. I became immune to skeeters and black flies while doing field research in NB in the early ‘80’s. No bug jacket or repellent available; the bugs fed merrily. Now, they either don’t bite or if they do, they don’t leave a welt. Well done for plowing through an amazing part of Canada and sharing your adventure with the rest of us. I thoroughly enjoy watching from the comfort of my couch.😁
Anticipation for next week. Thank you for again showing me places I'll never get! Northern Scavenger is nature's Rick Steves!
That bog with those bugs would have been a killer! lol Wonderful the canoe was fixed quite easily, nothing like epoxy, fiberglass cloth and bugs to create a good strong patch! Those whiskey sours were so well deserved! Thanks for sharing and am looking forward to the next Ep! :) :)
Thanks Jacqueline. We're hoping it holds for the rest of the trip ;)
Another good one! Way to capture those tough time in the bog and going through those alders. Enjoyed the drink creation with what you had one hand!
Reminds me of my time bush cruising in northern Manitoba. Loon shit lakes, Black flies, morning rains to wet everything. The strait path through the bush was always the thickest. Boy I miss that. Check out "Walkami Whailers" for music. Canadian folk forestry and pioneer songs.
Thanks David, I'll check them out
A tough slog in the bog lads! Great work, love the trip footage so far. Keep up the great work!
Geez , I felt so bad for you guys in the bog , your determination is out of this world 🙏 . Your choice of music is really good , full of sensibility . Bravo pour votre français , bel effort les gars . See you in the next one , thanks
Thank you :)
Another awesome episode
Another great show really hard I get tired just watching it you guys are really cool. PS:NOAH don't sing 🎶 🤣 😂
Good to see you let the bugs and fire ash become part of the Shepherd's Pie (and whiskey sours), troopers you are. First time viewer, my brother turned me on to your channel. He and I have had many a trip in the wilds of Maine much like this one of yours although not quite as epic! Liked it much, so I subscribed. Cheers and happy future travels.
Cheers. Well done for the journey log so far
Thanks for sharing
Love the determination! I want to see some fishing though!
Stay tuned for E4 ;)
You draw us in with your mad film skills. Witnessing the endurance of the journey, the educational component, the appreciation for the land and its inherent beauty, sharing your meals and simple pleasures like a bath and laundry...it feels like you take us with you. The interjections of your humour , easy nature and the soulful music that weaves throughout make your series outstanding,
Great footage. Captivity !
Those height of lands crossings tend to be brutal. Nice to be past the worst hopefully and get cleaned up with a good sleep. Very enjoyable watch.👍
I am really enjoying this adventure..the canoe company should give you a new one after all the beating you have put yours thru..Looking forward to next installment :)
Holy hell the amount of bugs its crazy.
Awesome adventure.
Been watching you guys since back when you did the Meanest Link. I look forward to the videos every week on this awesome trip! Love the history/current events commentary and it's cool seeing you guys progress as film makers with high quality video, composition, music, etc. Very inspiring stuff!
Tough trip this day. Man I can’t imagine going through that. Ended up nice though. Good work!
You must put a warning stamp on this video. The flies can start an allergic reaction 🙈
As always, a perfect chapter in a long running story. Your whole group of adventurers deliver outstanding commentary, great videos and excitement. I didn’t see fishing poles knowing you love to fish. Next time. Thanks from Alaska.
Thanks for the kind words Kate. We brought our rods along but we're waiting for Quebec. We didn't have the proper license for Labrador.
Good Lads! I hope the rods will be bending soon? Keep up the good work, and thank you for sharing.
Well done gentlemen. That was true adventure! Great music and editing. Looking forward to episode 4.
this one looks like a suffer fest. I like it.
love it
