I really hope TPBs finally releases a 29mm powerbar. I have their squat and DL bar and their knurling is amazing. The only reason I don't have their powerbar is it is 28.5.
@@Farquad76.54729mm feels better in your hand in bench and on your back it is a little less like a knife on squat. Crazy how .5mm makes a difference, I know.
@@Farquad76.547 When you factor in the thicker collars that TPB uses, many find that under heavy load there's more flex in the bar than a 29mm bar with shorter collars. This bar I have not only is 29mm but has slightly shorter collars than a regular TPB, making it much more stiff.
Another great review. Just bought a Texas deadlift bar. I really want one of these 29mm power bars and will definitely be purchasing one if they bring it to market. Hopefully they do! Thanks for sharing this even if it does sacrifice your relationship with them.

Hopefully TPB will release it. I love my TPB power bar, dl, and squat bar; although I don’t lift heavy enough for them any longer. That is another story. Rather than see this as a negative, hopefully TPB will see this video as a catalyst to them getting another classic on the market
I really enjoy my Texas Power Bars (standard, bodybuilder, deadlift and squat bars).... just FEEL great in my hands... that beveled edge on the sleeves make it easier to put plates on... money well spent.
I've always wanted to give the old 28.5mm Texas PB a try for deadlifts. The Ohio DL bar has my "goldilocks" amount of whip for deadlifts and the Texas PB seems pretty similar except with a harsher knurling. I could see a 29mm Texas PB having a place as an alternative to the Ohio PB though. I don't think it will ever win over the Powerlifting America strictly-specificity bois that only want to use the exact competition equipment (and I'm not knocking that approach), but it would be nice to have yet another other option if you don't want an Ohio PB for whatever reason.
The Rogue DL bar isn’t *great* compared to some of the other deadlift bars on the market (Texas deadlift bar still seems to be the gold standard) but it’d still be significantly whippier than an original TPB.
@joel what is the whip like on the TDB? I have tried the Ohio deadlift bar and I enjoyed the whip on that bar.. looking to purchase but not sure which one
I love my TPB and I could not think working out with another knurling than that. I'm maybe not in the market for that... Okay I'm maybe in the market for that... ;)

It's most likely for measuring bar speed. There are several devices on the market for velocity-based training. I haven't seen the one Brandon is using before but I have used two brands. One is the Beast which I don't recommend because they aren't US based, don't provide good support and their app was removed from the IOS store. I currently use the GymAware Flex which I highly recommend. Great device for VBT, 1 RM predictions and determining how well your workouts and recovery are going with actual data rather than just "how you feel the bar is moving".
Gotta give you all the credit in the world for making this happen! Now, you going to do a video on why Buddy Capps needs to finally be on the Massenomics podcast to complete the timeline?
If Texas PB is watching this, they should know that I will definitely buy one if released. Should be start a thread with definite purchases so they get a sense of the rabid demand out there?
Assuming this goes into production they are way late to the party. There are a ton of good 29mm options they're now directly competing with. If they get the price right (sub $300) they're probably ok. If they try to sell a bare steel bar at $350 plus tax and shipping good luck with that. Especially when things like the Rogue Boneyard exists and you can get an Ohio Power Bar for $230 right now. In my experience Rogue's defects are better than what some companies sell as firsts.
When you benching at around 4:24, what is that device on the weight plates? It looks like it’s secured with a magnet. I’m guessing it measures time per rep?
i just bought an ohio power bar instead of a texas (even though i prefer texas bars) purely because of the diameter of the texas bar. i only bench with the power bar, but it does make a difference from the flex in the bar to the way you hold it. id have bought this with my texas squat and dl bar if it existed in a heartbeat
id actually prefer they only change the diameter and not the collars/width because i want to be able to grip a texas bar like i would any other power bar, but still be able to feel like its a texas bar and the width is one of the ways that these bars feel unique
I think the steel that Texas use is naturally flexy. Even their squat bar is way whippier than alternatives even when factoring in that it’s only 32mm (for reference I had the 35mm squat bar they made for Westside and it was whipper than a Mastodon, Iron Wolfe, Sportskraft or Goliath 35mm bar).
@@Spotter_Loader thats true i like the flex though but the way u grip a smaller diameter bar is a little different. if the steel is more flexible a 29mm texas bar would literally be erevt then. a little whippy but nice to hold
@@BasementBrandon Yeah definitely. Have survived on rep so far but with more and more options coming into the market there’s only so long that will last if they’re living off selling direct to the public.
