    Definitely a lot of 20/20 hindsight going on.
    Things were going good in 1928 and people didn't know the stock market crash was a coming, the incumbent Republicans probably seemed like a good choice if you aren't abusing future knowledge.

    • @toddwebb7521
      @toddwebb7521 11 місяців тому

      Not to mention Nixon getting blown out by Kennedy in 60, if you aren't abusing future "Nixon is a crook" knowledge he's the incumbent VP of a super popular pres during good times. It's at least as close as historical if you are not abusing the Nixon is a crook knowledge.

    • @notthebeastinus2786
      @notthebeastinus2786 3 місяці тому +7

      Gonna be honest, Al Smith dodged a bullet by losing. The Great Depression was going to happen no matter what, as the rest of the world was going through. It ruined Hoover's reputation. The reason why it was so bad in the US was because Hoover's and FDR's policies exaggerated the effects. If Al Smith had won the democratic nomination, he probably would've resolved it within his first term and it would have been remembered as a recession.
