  • Today we are starting part 3 of our solar project. Now that we have the holes drilled below the frost line, the solar stanchion built and the concrete poured, we are ready to install the solar panels! Follow along as we attach the solar panels, connect to the combiner box and check voltage!
    Thanks for watching!

    Seriously though, week after week Erin is kicking some serious ass! Lifting 80 lb concrete bags, solar panels, climbing in and out of the house, etc. Get it girl! ✊🏻

    I love the affection you guys show to each other. So many channels don't show affection between each other. I like to see that you guys love each other, and joke around and all that stuff. Also I LOVE the music you play. Those two things are a big part of what I listen to or watch in homesteading videos. It's about your family, and the love you guys have for each other. That's what keeps me coming back to watch your journey. Thanks for being "real" and for not using clickbate titles and all the stuff you do. Been with y'all since almost the beginning... going to enjoy watching your family and homestead grow. Sending love from North Texas

    I'd much rather look at a solar array than a power line that I know costs me just to have it hooked up and then charged for the power...
    Thank you for sharing theirs a lot of good information here... And now your finished home is showing just how comfortable you are in your home... Power companies pi$$ off

    That is a thing of beauty. A total of 12 panels to supply your entire house. Maybe our government will pass more rebate programs for incentive for others to install solar or wind

    Hi Josh & Erin, I watched an early video when you Erin were in a car (wearing a Rural king hat,) telling us about future plans, dont know if you have changed microphones but youre voice sounded less, as some naughty people have said like a chipmunk, ( a beautifull chipmunk), maybe look into that, and another made me smile where youre little girl was in the background entertaining herself with some buckets, soo sweet in her own little world. hope people realise what it takes for you guys to put out a video,. Thanks anyway.

    You two NEVER fail to give out free smiles to the viewers - sincere thanks for us ALL!
    Did have a Q for Josh: Have you ever given out a list of all the components for the array and also wire sizes and types etc.? I really wondered about the long runs as to the type of wire - 7X7, solid copper etc as to what you selected - that is one powerhouse of a collection system you built!
    ~Stay Happy~

    • @masterdebater8757
      @masterdebater8757 5 років тому

      If i used th calculator correctly (not sure of his aperage from the array guessing under 10 amps per series of panels) could get away with 14awg copper but safe bet would be 12awg copper for the long drop from array to the shed they will be using to house the charge controller, batteries, and inverter in. That puts his drop at about 3volts per set of panels (2sets of series' panels) for a total drop of around 6volts at the charge controller at 150feet length of wire.

    Awesome solar array! Very impressive, and I heartily agree with the size. When I did my array (on the roof of my travel trailer) People thought I was going way overboard (6-300 watt panels), and they still didn't seem to understand when I told them that "there has to be enough to keep you going in winter, and during long bouts of rainy weather". I have a lot of experience in electrical work, but I'm always impressed with how fast and efficiently a real electrician does the work. :)

    I'm so excited to see another video of your journey! I can't wait until I see videos of you and your beautiful family living in your new home. Good weather is coming! I am excited here in the most northern part of the Texas Panhandle to start my garden. I ordered a greenhouse, it will be my first. I have a garden every year. I use mainly raised beds. Because of my disability my son comes over to help me some. He and my daughter will be building it for me. We have a few more snow days, high winds and frost left to get through but Spring is around the corner! Will you have a garden?

All I know of solar is what I've seen on line, but it seems you have ' budgeted' for all the electric you will need. And Josh. Erin really got you with that last 'shot'! Really like this stuff!

    Nice part about having your solar panels in The View of those patio doors is it's a reminder that you are not paying a monthly power bill and that you generate your own electricity Plus if you hear your neighbors power is out during a storm you can just look out and make sure your panels are in good shape and you know you'll be fine tomorrow when the sun comes up
