You put out some stunning content. Honestly one of my favorite things is you taking to the camera in the truck. It feels like you are having a conversation with your audience.
I’m not sure if it was mentioned but the reason that trail is closed, those dates is for the elk calving. That’s the same timeframe as greenie peak in red river closest for the elk calving.
Another awesome video with bonus points for puppy interaction! I love your mix because the real life experience connects you with everyone and the motivation behind your videos is what sets you apart from others. Keep the real life because you are also educating all of us newbie’s
Outstanding video, production, direction, and musical selection. The quality of your videos spoil all of us regular Friday night viewers. Your adventures and life lessons are a wonderful way to start every weekend!
To answer your question in my opinion -real life for sure. The drone footage was awesome as an intro but I don’t like to see videos that are basically just drone footage and calm music. I enjoy the tire 🛞 sounds and rattling and also you sharing your experiences.
Hey there, we live in Alma, CO. and came over from Durango. So my son has a Gladiator and we’ve been all over the trails that you show on UA-cam. Just wanted to let you know that we certainly enjoy your videos and glad we came across them. Keep on jeeping ❤
This video was terrific! The beginning was just awesomely beautiful! The realism, you just talking and driving, well, that's overlanding. I love the relaxed camps, slow starts and just beauty of the areas you travel. We disperse camp more then overland, but I love your videos. On a side note, lol, for your wife, check out Trelino toilets. I know you have your system but we use one while disperse camping and it is just wonderful, I wouldn't "go" without it! Thanks for your videos, really...they are appreciated for all the work that goes into them.
That "stream" you camped by and others joining it are the headwaters of the Rio Grande! If you have time on your next visit to the area, take the "Old Hundred Gold Mine" tour. You passed just below it after turning onto Cunningham Creek. Such a special area. Thanks for your informative videos, we have learned a lot from them. We think your percentages of go pro on trail, drone work, and face time are pretty much right on.
I think your videos strike a good balance between the two styles of personalized/talking to the camera, and the more cinematic drone shots etc. But really, at the end of the day, your brand is YOU. There are thousands of videos showing great scenery. I watch your videos to learn about off roading, your builds, your adventures etc.
An addendum to our latest. We like the dashcam footage the best as it gives a great indication of what we will experience and what to expect as we travel these passes. Thanks for asking what we would like best!
I like the mix of “real life” and “epic shots”. You all have a life to live and the reality of what you are doing is very important for us all to take in. You’re doing a great job Matt, I wish you could get more subscribers. I’m trying to do my part by sharing your videos with family and friends.
You do a great job of sharing your adventures with us. I feel like you have the perfect mix of cinematic footage and talking/narrating as you drive. You guys are one of my favorite channels to follow. For my two cents, I'd say keep up the great work!
Epic videography Matt. Epic! Beautiful country up there. Short season to run due to the snow melt off late spring and I've been blocked out of those trails from early snow in September. Thirty years ago it was not so busy, but things change and good to see more are enjoying the outdoors without too much... crowding.
BTW. My 13yo is in training as a drone videographer and sits in the back of the gladiator filming us as we drive off-road. His 11 yo sister keeps a visual eye on the drone. Still a work in progress, but they are developing their videography skills and showing them your videos definitely inspires them.
We're also from Arkansas and my wife and I go to Yankee Boy every year. It's as pretty as anywhere I've ever been. Governor's basin is another beautiful drive in that same area.
It doesn't matter how you shot it, its all great stuff. I enjoy every bit of it to the point you have inspired me to build my own rig to get out and see this beautiful world before I die, and I thank you for that. All though not quite there yet I'm well on my way. Thanks for all your help!!
Have to say love it more when your not rushed though , you seemed more relaxed and it’s more relaxing for me too … you need to still make it to the PNW buddy !!
The fancy shots are nice, but IMO seeing real life injected into the videos is a huge help to people watching that have not gone on an overland trip yet. It gives people a more realistic view of the trip to come.
Personally, I really enjoy the interacting instead of just all drone footage or driving footage with music playing. I enjoy the interacting because I learn things about the particular area that you happen to be in at that particular time eventually one day I would love to visit some of these places, and I’d like to know as much about them as possible, you can only learn so much from video footage of the area without any commentary so to simply put it. I much prefer commentary over the other types of videos. Good luck in your travels and keep up the great work.
Really awsome! Always enjoy every adventure, but being from Colorado, I appreciate how you capture this beautiful state. The Switzerland of the west. Enjoy every minute! Cheers!
I really enjoyed this one! The drone shots were amazing. The shot at 00:54 was awesome! Colorado is probably one of the most drone-worthy places that I've been.
As much as I love epic drone shots and amazing videography, I think the story of your travels is more important (which can be told just as effectively using your dash cam / in-Jeep shots). I also think your enjoyment of the time you get to spend off road is obviously a priority. Great video… I can’t wait to get back to Colorado someday!
Hi Matt and Cara, my opinion only, but i want you to enjoy your trips, so whatever you decide regarding shooting videos, I appreciate you sharing the content. Thank you! 🚙🚗😊
Your question about drone shots, camera set up shots and just in cab footage while you drive…. Which do I personally like. Ummm…. I like them all. Hope this helps. Thanks for the great content.
Matt, I enjoy your content. You are one of the guys that got me interested in starting my own channel. That said, my primary interest is the scenic video. That doesn’t mean I mind hearing you share your thoughts. So, try to maintain a balance between the interior shots and scenic shots and I’ll continue to watch.
The extra camera feeds and drone feeds are nice, but they look like they would add a bunch of time to the trip. I don't know, but I bet there are times when you just don't have the time for that. Plus, the feed of you driving and talking gives us, the viewers, a more personal feel of your trips. I personally like the shots out the front window. It gives me the feeling of what it might be like to be driving the trail myself. Keep making awesome videos. Have a blessed day.
I definitely prefer this format, I tend to find when there are a ton of action shots I am fast forwarding till I see you guys talking again. Hopefully you guys find yourself in the area again! Checking out the mine tour in Creede is a blast. Creede also puts on scavenger hunts with themes; we have done their chocolate scavenger hunt and it was great. Also, if you swing between South Fork and Del Norte, there’s Almost Home Ice Cream that I just love! Highly recommend it!
We were there and it was so beautiful ! Our little girl made a funny snow man at the lake ! I’ll never forget the memories we made and can only hope we’ll be able to make it back sometime. We were the same and wanted to camp up yankee boy but seen the signs even though there was people camping. You have a good heart, both of you do ! Keep doing what you’re doing and let the negative slide off. The negative just wants a reaction ! ✌️For me….i love the drone footage don’t get me wrong. But it’s feeling like we’re being part of your adventure I like. I made a video of our trip up holy cross while we were there. Is it the best and will it get a bunch of views…NO it will not. But for me it was being able to capture a moment in time that our family can look at back later. You never know when tomorrow may never come. The kids may not care now…but someday they may be like wow I’m glad dad did this 🤷♂️🎗️🧡.
I Loved the video! I enjoy your attitude about travel and the realism of not being able to just pop into a wonderful camping place every single night. Suggestion - please wear glasses that have anti-reflective coatings on the front of the lenses 🙂
I could live without the drone most of the time. It's pretty great in the most epic spots though. The drone isn't what I'd experience while there is the point. I watch as research for my own trips, not necessarily to see the beauty on a screen. The commentary and your experience makes it entertaining for sure. No negativity from me, but you basically asked for market research data, and that's my input.
Dang Matt. We just ran stony pass opposite way you guys just did! We camped at that creek at the start of stony pass on the creede side. We had a ton of deer come into camp too. Love the drone shots like you said but your narratives of the story is what I enjoy more. I think that’s why I love Coddywhopple overland channel too. He narrates a lot of info too. I work long crazy hours so when I get a week or weekend off I want to have a good trip planned. I don’t have the luxury of exploring…. Yet! ✌️
I love the drone shots and the camera angles and all but like you say, you're making videos of y'all traveling. With that being said, if you're pressed for time or anything, shoot the dashcam videos of the road you're traveling on (camera facing out). Seeing what you're actually driving on is one of the really neat things about your videos.
I know those roads and there are a lot of interesting sites. Like ore buckets still hanging. Or the old ranch sites and on Stoney didn’t point out that was start of Rio Grande River. You take some good photos.
Part of having “ outdoor adventures “ is being completely off the norm an always doing something different. Whether it be during the video or in a series of different types of videos on your channel. That’s why I continue to watch and I think others will enjoy as well as then your audience will be more more large and more vast and hopes to inspire others.
Hey just throwing some ideas out there for future Tuesday videos down the road. 1. Maybe some overland videos for newbies or people just getting into Overlanding. For example you talked about camping and people probably not understanding the different rules or maps, etc. I know you already have some videos out on these topics but I’d love to see a series on what “You would have wanted to know (7 or 10 years ago or whenever you started over landing). Your channel is always very informative but the whole overland thing is kind of intimidating with National forest, blm maps, google earth, public property, winches, survival gear and all the extra things. For someone wanting to go camp 🏕️ with my wife and kid and explore just seems like a lot of work, where I’d rather just go to a camp ground.
I personally like the trail shots from the vehicle view. Drone shots with overly dramatic music gets kinda old because every overland channel seems to do it. Just my humble opinion love the channel!
Great video, Matt. As another said, road/trail closures out here are often to allow wildlife to breed. The closures often apply to cyclists and hikers as well. Next time you're in Creede, take the time for the side trip to the Wheeler Geologic Area. The volcanic formations there are beautiful and radically different than the surrounding areas. Last, while i appreciate drone shots to provide context, I prefer that the bulk of the scenic shots in videos show what a person could see with their own eyes.
Matt when you were south of Creed and turned off of 149 you missed a great opportunity to visit Wheeler Geological Area. I highly recommend seeing Wheeler at least once in your travels. Thanks for your awesome content. BS
Recently I became interested in overlanding( just starting a build) I stumbled on your channel, out of all there are out there… I enjoy yours the most… keep creating your content. The way you want, to suit your needs. The peeps that watch you , watch because it is relatable, not the you must have this or that. Or my truck is better than yours, it is just good content put out in a nice relaxing way. Keep it up!!
The dash cam gives up more information about the tread and we see what the driver sees. That is my preferred cam. I send up the drone when there is something special to shoot as you have in the beginning. For our recent Rim Rocker video I didn't want to show the audience the burned areas of the Uncompahgre Plateau so I didn't shoot with the drone. It was prettier along the road. Always a tough call though.
HI MATT & KARA & THE PUPS 👋 MATT HONESTLY DO WHAT'S SAFE TOR YOU'LL ALWAYS ! YOU COME FIRST ! WE'RE NOT THERE YOU ARE ! BREATHTAKING BEAUTY SCENERY VIEWS COLORS LANDSCAPE VIDEO 📹 DRONE FOOTAGE , SHOTS VIDEO 📹 BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏 ENJOYED ☺️ 🙏 GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏
I like this format. I don't think we need constant drone footage. The start of this video was really beautiful and that was some good drone shots. So I think its really good to get some done shots especially of some of the stand out moments, but just do do drone for just the travel... eh... Maybe just mount another camera looking out the back... so you can have another camera to edit footage of vehicals following you afterwards, but you don't need to spend time with, or control during the drive..
Love all your videos , keep up the good work! Forgive me, but sometimes I watch your videosAnd I forget to click on to like. My bad ! I watched 1 video that you recently mwhere. Your Jeep was about to slip away into the Canyon because of it snow. Oh my gosh, that was just incredible that you guys were able to make it through. I was On the edge of the couch gripping the Sides praying that nothing would happen to you guys. Both of you had inspired me to do the exact same thing. I'm not Building a Jeep, but I am building a Chevy Tahoe To be a rock climber, LOL ! We will see how that goes. I hope that someday we will run into each other out. And about doing the trail. Once Again, keep up the good work, stay safe, May God be with you guys at all times On your exciting adventures! Robert from Sacramento, California.
Would like to know which FB group your refering too, sounds like a good read. IMO do what you enjoy doing, that definitely shows in the video. Knowing that some rely on YT as income and it shows because some videos come out as a job over hey join along in our fun!. Some people like cinematic epic views. Others like to be in the driver seat for dash cam views and others want to hear the entire story with headshot footage. I think the most important thing is do what you like doing. It ruins a trip worring about shots and what people want to see.
Drones - UA-camrs are always excited to use the technology, but drone footage can be overdone. Same with 360 camera. Having said that, your drone footage is impeccable. Less is more. As someone else said, I enjoy when you speak to the camera while you’re in the truck. It makes us feel included.
Looks like a great trip. More epic landscapes and dogs, please (side note, look up "wildlife harassment") and that fs road may be closed for spring run off and melt season... happens quite frequently in the northern great lakes.
In Colorado, the fine for knowingly or negligently allowing a dog to harass wildlife is $274, including surcharges. If a deer is near your campsite the German shepherd needs to be restrained under Colorado law.
As a newbie in overlanding I am intrigued by your videos! They are amazing! On to my question.....We will be doing a cross country trip with no set time to be back home. I would love to do Stony Pass but we are pulling an overlanding trailer. Do you suggest we drop the trailer at a campground or is this something we can do pulling our camper and camping on the route? I am also up for getting together with a group and going together!
answering your question about you filming your adventures vs your adventures filming you …. i prefer your channel because i also ride around in my jeep and film it in that order. i also watch Shawn and he does wonderful filming with his hi tech equipment and film techniques. he does great and so do you …. planned “b roll” doesn’t motivate me, the trips do. just me and my opinion
GREAT Video (as always) - quick question, is this route suitable for pulling a trailer (Mission Overland Summit) behind a JK Sedan?? Scott - TEXpedition Adventures
You put out some stunning content. Honestly one of my favorite things is you taking to the camera in the truck. It feels like you are having a conversation with your audience.
As someone who has watched you for a couple of years now, what I enjoy most is your realism.
Thanks!
Just keep doing what you are doing. I like how you go back and forth that way we can see both. Epic shots and great information while you travel.
Thanks! Will do!
I’m not sure if it was mentioned but the reason that trail is closed, those dates is for the elk calving. That’s the same timeframe as greenie peak in red river closest for the elk calving.
Ahhhh. Thank you so much!!

Awesome! Thank you!!
Outstanding video, production, direction, and musical selection.
The quality of your videos spoil all of us regular Friday night viewers. Your adventures and life lessons are a wonderful way to start every weekend!
Thank you very much!
Love that area. It has been too long.
There's so many amazing areas in Colorado with very few people.
To answer your question in my opinion -real life for sure. The drone footage was awesome as an intro but I don’t like to see videos that are basically just drone footage and calm music. I enjoy the tire 🛞 sounds and rattling and also you sharing your experiences.
Great episode I love following along on Gaia marking all the epic camps along the way!!! Thank you!!!

Thanks for your informative videos, we have learned a lot from them. We think your percentages of go pro on trail, drone work, and face time are pretty much right on.
I just love seeing you both on your travels. Drone shots are nice but not always necessary. Lots of love from Northern Ireland. ❤
I think your videos strike a good balance between the two styles of personalized/talking to the camera, and the more cinematic drone shots etc. But really, at the end of the day, your brand is YOU. The night sky was awesome. I think this is a more impromptu in the moment video for you, which sometimes plays well also. I did enjoy
I enjoy the real aspects, sprinkled with some epic drone shots. Just keep doing what you’re doing. All the videos of your adventures are great.
Thanks, will do!
Man, that was awesome to watch. If there were such a thing as Oscars for UA-cam productions. I'm sure you'd win one.
Sounds like a great team!!
Amen, just take time to explore and smell the roses!
Real life, very little drone❤
Love the video Matt. No matter how you record your videos I love watching them
I appreciate that!
Awesome!! I love hearing that!!
Have to say love it more when your not rushed though , you seemed more relaxed and it’s more relaxing for me too … you need to still make it to the PNW buddy !!
Agreed. Umm 5 videos before this one were in the PNW. LOL.
The top of Yankee Boy is probably my favorite place to sit and take in the San Juans. Such a beautiful spot! And the waterfalls!!!
I gotta spend a couple days there hiking around.
I really like both just keep doing what you’re doing! It’s my weekend adventure!!!
I love whichever you choose to show us. Either way is a beautiful story.
The fancy shots are nice, but IMO seeing real life injected into the videos is a huge help to people watching that have not gone on an overland trip yet. It gives people a more realistic view of the trip to come.
I love ur channel cuz U just do U. The drone shots r just a little added bonus. Keep it real just as u have.
Thanks, will do!
Really awsome! Always enjoy every adventure, but being from Colorado, I appreciate how you capture this beautiful state. The Switzerland of the west. Enjoy every minute! Cheers!
Thanks so much!!
Great video Matt. You do an excellent job choosing the music for just right shots.
Impressive
Much appreciated!
I realy like the drone shots and with the music choice made it seam more epic to me, realy cool!
We gotta explore that area!
Just keep doing what you are doing, awesome videos!!
I really enjoyed this one! The drone shots were amazing. The shot at 00:54 was awesome! Colorado is probably one of the most drone-worthy places that I've been.
It's hard to get a bad drone shot!! lol
Truth!
Content is always awesome do what needs to be done
So beautiful up there and on the list once the Mojave build is done until then I live vicariously through your videos and adventures
Don't wait for the Jeep to be finished. Get out while you can.
Hey appreciate you sharing! We have just added this to our list for destinations. Beautiful is a understatement
Nice! Like the music selection. Kinda reminds me of old western's traveling westward lol.
Like both styles and always enjoy watching your videos.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
I love all your videos! You make a dark world shine again ❤👊
Wow, thank you!
Hi Matt and Cara, my opinion only, but i want you to enjoy your trips, so whatever you decide regarding shooting videos, I appreciate you sharing the content. Thank you! 🚙🚗😊
Man ... I just missed you guys, lol. Its a long haul for me as well to SW Colorado, but it is so worth it.
Your question about drone shots, camera set up shots and just in cab footage while you drive…. Which do I personally like.
Ummm…. I like them all. Hope this helps. Thanks for the great content.
We have been over Stony Pass; it's a good one!

I used to live up in alamosa creed and center loved it up their
Good video 👍 👍😃

Love to see what happens when meeting other vehicles on tight trails. Things to do in the towns you visit would be nice too.
Keep it reel!
I definitely prefer this format, I tend to find when there are a ton of action shots I am fast forwarding till I see you guys talking again.

beautiful Colorado!!!
I love ouray🎉
I Loved the video! I enjoy your attitude about travel and the realism of not being able to just pop into a wonderful camping place every single night. Suggestion - please wear glasses that have anti-reflective coatings on the front of the lenses 🙂
Nice I've got to get up in that area sometime. Well put together.👍
Thanks 👍
I could live without the drone most of the time. It's pretty great in the most epic spots though.
The drone isn't what I'd experience while there is the point. I watch as research for my own trips, not necessarily to see the beauty on a screen.
The commentary and your experience makes it entertaining for sure. No negativity from me, but you basically asked for market research data, and that's my input.
Thanks so much!!
Dang Matt. We just ran stony pass opposite way you guys just did! We camped at that creek at the start of stony pass on the creede side. We had a ton of deer come into camp too. I agree with you do you, but I would love a hood mounted camera view or even winch( watch the high water)!! Think you both are awesome!!!

That’s why I continue to watch and I think others will enjoy as well as then your audience will be more more large and more vast and hopes to inspire others.
I believe that the road closures have with elk deer and antelope calving season
Trail maybe closed in spring to vehicles from putting ruts in the roads and minimize trail damage. Just a thought. Love ur videos 👍💯
At 33:42 I saw Sasquatch walking in the river I don't think he saw you lol great video cheers
In the spring sometimes the trails are closed because of mud season (driving on them causes damage) and/or trail maintenance.
Hey just throwing some ideas out there for future Tuesday videos down the road.

🔥🔥🔥 whenever yall go to utah next let me know i would love to hit a trail with yall
Just keep doing what you're doing. You're making some of the best Overlanding content out there!
Thanks so much!!
HI MATT & KARA & THE PUPS 👋
MATT HONESTLY DO WHAT'S SAFE TOR YOU'LL ALWAYS ! YOU COME FIRST ! WE'RE NOT THERE YOU ARE ! BREATHTAKING BEAUTY SCENERY VIEWS COLORS LANDSCAPE VIDEO 📹 DRONE FOOTAGE , SHOTS VIDEO 📹 BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏 ENJOYED ☺️ 🙏 GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏
Fine with me on what your doing as long as you camp and cook lol 👍
I like this format. I don't think we need constant drone footage. The start of this video was really beautiful and that was some good drone shots. So I think its really good to get some done shots especially of some of the stand out moments, but just do do drone for just the travel... eh... Maybe just mount another camera looking out the back... so you can have another camera to edit footage of vehicals following you afterwards, but you don't need to spend time with, or control during the drive..
Your vids are the best. Sorry boys, there is a new King of the Overlanding vids. I enjoy all of it. The views, the drone, you waxing philosophically.
Once Again, keep up the good work, stay safe,
May God be with you guys at all times On your exciting adventures! Robert from Sacramento, California.
Thanks so much for sharing!!
I camped near that spot on Stony last year and saw a black bear cross that ridge on the other side of the creek.
places between Gunnison and Creede are closed from march 15-may 15th for the Gunnison Sage Chicken (grouse). The local Dodo bird.
Some information I would find interesting would be is what speed you are traveling on the trails. Thanks
Drones - UA-camrs are always excited to use the technology, but drone footage can be overdone. Same with 360 camera. Having said that, your drone footage is impeccable.
Less is more. As someone else said, I enjoy when you speak to the camera while you’re in the truck. It makes us feel included.
Thanks!!
That area might be closed for the elk rut but I'm not sure on the timing. Elk are especially violent during the rut.
Alamosa? Its my birth place so it was actually pretty funny to see it spelt that way because it could sound like that 🤣
I fixed it. LOLOL
answering your question about you filming your adventures vs your adventures filming you …. i prefer your channel because i also ride around in my jeep and film it in that order. i also watch Shawn and he does wonderful filming with his hi tech equipment and film techniques. he does great and so do you …. planned “b roll” doesn’t motivate me, the trips do. just me and my opinion
GREAT Video (as always) - quick question, is this route suitable for pulling a trailer (Mission Overland Summit) behind a JK Sedan??
Scott - TEXpedition Adventures
Yes. It would be great for a trailer.
MATT & KARA WHAT DO YOU GIVE THE PUPS FOR FLEAS , TICKS , ETC ?
