Hey bro! Have you tried any of the Russian Boots From Russian cold camo? I just bought the Demi season all leather boots Today after watching your poncho video.
Great reviews as usual. If you could only have one, vintage and modern, which would you choose (I'm only 5'8"). For tall guys like you it must be more challenging 👍
Thank you. Appreciate it. I have really been liking the Polish lavvu lately. The poncho is great. Modern, probably the jerven fjelduken hunter. It is super versatile, just not meant to be around fires. Cheers
Mostly green canvas. Germany had some very advanced camouflage during this time. US Marines had some camo patterns used in the Pacific, similar to Duck Hunter camouflage.
@@Reimerguns there are still a couple of sites that might get some here and there, but the prices are up now and their factories have different priorities now. But I like the lighter gorkas.
I bought my Russian Army poncho from a Russian website, I paid £40 for it. At the time, I thought it was the Ratnik basha with the integrated fly lines/cords that I was buying, when I opened the parcel and saw it wasn’t that, I was gutted! I put it away and forgot about it, fuming I’d paid £40 for it. A year or so later, I got it out and checked it properly and realised it was a really cool piece of kit, very well made, far better than other ponchos in terms of size and versatility. When I first got it, the material seemed very cheap and fragile, actually it isn’t. Now I love the thing, so glad I got it, I think all my initial negative thoughts about it were due to the fact I was really looking forward to getting the excellent Ratnik basha, like the British Army basha, but on steroids 😁, I was so gutted when I realised it wasn’t, also, I’d ordered some of the Soviet Jack boots, which many sites “big up” into “a must have item, they were garbage, absolute garbage! The worst footwear I have ever seen (and I’ve seen some pretty crap footwear, having lived in India for 5 years!🤣). I really pity the poor troops who had to wear these. I also have some Finnish Jack boots that are superbly made, night and day! Anyway, the disappointment of the boots really impacted my initial feelings on the poncho.
I just got my selfe the German one, the russian stuff is hard to get thees dasy in Germany ; ) it is fucked up hear , never war with Russia !!! Na ja, so I have to say , watch Endurance Room, never buy twiche ; ) Lol from Germany and a very good 2023. DeinStamm
I have to ask are these waterproof or only water resistant like the usgi ones made of nylon? The nylon ones are lighter but in prolonged heavy rain do soak through. The urethane coated ones like the old Swiss alpenflage ones are waterproof. I really like this one which is why I ask
This poncho is really nice. I use a set of gaiters with it to protect lower legs. The material used is a coated fabric with a rubberized underside that is seam sealed and taped. I haven’t had water come through the top, but during prolonged use, it does collect moisture on under side towards bottom. That being said, with pack on underneath, it holds it out away from body. Hands down, it is the best one I have used.
Interesting, if you like the ponchos look for the wilderness innovation poncho hammock; works really well as a hammock. I'm thinking that perhaps this russian poncho might work fine as a tarp for this poncho-hammock.
Hammer time. Very odd times indeed. Honestly, more concerned with the home team. The priorities seem to be making “safe”spaces for p dos and not offending anyone over their delusions.

Hi Jess .. Now that looks like a decent piece of gear .. and well thought out to boot 😊. Obviously, one loses the 'fire retardancy' of the Canvas Plash .. but then, in a Military application, 'sitting by an open fire' is not a first choice 😊. Some Useless Information .. now in the Summer Months .. and it's been a wet one so far, I'm starting to rethink on taking with me, a rain jacket when going out .. even to town. Am currently looking at, and testing, some lightweight reusable 'Emergency Ponchos'. They take up no space at all, are cooler to wear and if the little folding umbrella cannot hack it, are there when one needs ithem. A short length of cordage and a Toggle / Canadian Jam Knot takes care of the belt in windy conditions. Take care .. stay safe .. Tommy NB: I took a gander at that Exercise Link that you sent me. Definitely will look deeper .. thanks for that 👍.
Another great product and review Jess, I managed to snag a GRU Poncho with the air bladders from Russian Cold Camo and one of their -18C Sleeping bags with a washable liner, both high quality versatile products. I will combine them with my Ratnik and Plashes to round out the kit. Thanks for the tip.
Looks great. As for recommend this poncho over all the others you've had, I just found one XL 110" X 55.5" and bought it. Thanks for introducing and comparing it for us to see.
Thanks. I really do like it. For the coverage it affords as a shelter and as a poncho, it is an excellent option. I still have an affinity for the older ponchos as well though.
Sit down...Cant recall where i read it but the book was describing indigenous people just lying down and sleeping right out in the elements. A poncho gives you shelter and against a good tree or comfortable indentation can make for a nice nap. Trash bag over your legs if you really want to be fancy and sprawl out completely. Im totally serious I fall asleep hunting like that every season. Some of my best naps have been just random spots along the trail. I do pack a 45 long colt if something wakes me rudely though.
Endurance Room Bushcraft and Survival Yes, unless it's very windy, you want a poncho to be loose. That way the air can circulate and you won't get too much moisture build up. That's the advantage over a rain suit. What it looked like may be a problem is that folded up part on the bottom (for shorter people, could be something to get a foot caught in and trip over.

Alright, I finally got one ... from Armenia though. I found it on Ebay, it is in perfect condition. It even had a paper sticker on it from the producer. The quality is awesome, the grommets are so wide that even thick pegs fit through and the length allows for endless shelter options. The only poncho that I found (and own) that comes close to that one is the Dutch army poncho. It's not as beautiful (really ugly DPM camo) but the size is great, too. Should try one in case you can get one to the U.S. Thanks again, great suggestions!
