Many thanks to the friendsfamilyaccount for posting these scenes from the 1980 Broadway "Annie" with Allison Smith as Annie, Bette Hutton playing Ms. Hannigan (for 3 weeks during Alice Ghostly's vacation), John Schuck as Warbucks, my wife, Kathryn Boule-Madden as Grace Farrell, Gary Beach as Rooster, Rita Rudner as Lily St. Regis and an incredible ensemble, according to my wife. This was one of the happiest times of her life. What a great thing you are offering to preserve this original show.
Fun fact: It’s hard to tell since the footage is old and unclear, but one performer on stage here (perhaps the only one) from the original 1977 cast is Sandy, who started the role on Broadway with original Andrea McArdle and stayed with the production through the very end, appearing in over 2,000 performances and missing only 14 of them (a few times because he was appearing with Andrea in Las Vegas in Liberace’s show).
I saw this cast when I was 4. It changed my life. Theater would continue to be my passion. Thanks to all the casts of Annie and every theater actor who busts their ass to keep child-like dreams alive for all of us.
Can anyone tell me is this one of the shows of the original 1977 broadway run-through? Or is this an off-broadway production? If answer to first question is yes, is Andrea still Annie in here? Quality is too low to identify clearly.
+yanbo95 No Andrea is not Annie in this video. Videos from her performances are really rare. This performance is from the 1980 Broadway cast and Allison Smith is playing Annie. The only videos of Andrea as Annie are either from the Tony Awards or the 1977 Christmas special. There is also a channel called BroadwaySucks where there are some audio recordings of the final preview of the show in 1977.
Your question was answered about Andrea having left the show by the time this video was shot, but you might be interested to know (as i posted above...) That was great to see. I had no idea that this was posted. The cast was cooking. Kathy looked great in those 30's costumes.
Pepper is one of my favorite orphans.

Ah I see! Thanks!
No problem :)
