I remember when this song was first datamined and I was so excited for the track to be released.
And THEN the track dropped the night of my 40th birthday. 🥳
"You're bopping to the soundtrack? Mute City is literally engulfed in a field of fire and you're listening to the soundtrack?"
"Yes."
"It's not the only thing here that's fire"
When the track is lit.
In every sense possible.
It should have been called muted fire.
Never before has Mute City sounded so threatening.
It's surprisingly deceptive in difficulty the first time!
Can we take a moment to talk about the Mute City motif from 1:10? It suddenly gets emotional when it's on later chord progression of Fire Field.
Seeing how the track's venue is _literally_ Mute City on fire, it's probably intentional.
There's a theory that the reason why Bianca City took over as the predominant city on Earth in Maximum Velocity is because Mute City was destroyed, and that the Crater Land venue in MV is the ruins of Mute City. The only real evidence to that theory is the fact that Crater Land: Loop Circuit has a very similar layout to Mute City's SNES incarnations, but perhaps the developers liked it enough to use the idea in a "what if" scenario?

Seeing the background of this track, I kid you not that it gives Crisis City vibes
1:09 goes SO HARD
I kinda like how sour(?) a lot of the notes are, really sells the feeling of something being wrong. Like "Mute City's burning, you shouldn't be here, this shouldn't exist, this isn't right!"
Plus I can't help but love a mashup of these two tracks. Mute City being an icon of the series, and Fire Field being my favorite course/song in the original game
I don't know how good of a comparison this is, but I feel like Toby Fox's music in Undertale/Deltarune turned a lot of people on to the whole "music changes that signify you shouldn't be here/shouldn't be doing what you're doing". If this wasn't a normal track in the game and someone made some fangame/creepypasta game, this would fit very well for it.
@@MewtwoStruckBack The reason it sounds like this is because the midi instruments of Fire Field were already rough sounding.
I would argue that this is even more of a Final Boss theme than Fire Field was, and that was already a Final Boss theme!
@@universalperson yeah, I can't help but imagine someone racing to escape the city as it's collapsing in on itself. Specifically gave me the idea of Samurai Goroh just barreling through buildings to try and rescue his kid as waves of lava follow behind

Maybe it should be. A version of F-Zero where you otherwise have 100%’d the game, but then get thrown on Fire City against one very good rival, one try, no pausing or resetting - lose and your save is wiped, win and you truly beat the game.

I love how, not only is it a mix of the first track of F-Zero and the last, but the way it's structured feels like a heated race.
0:00 - The intro where both Mute City & Fire Field start off together in harmony
0:18 - Mute City breaks ahead and becomes the melody, while Fire Field trails behind as the accompaniment
0:51 - Fire Field manages to steal the lead and becomes the melody while Mute City catches up as the accompaniment
1:09 - Mute City catches up and they harmonize with intensity, now neck and neck in a fierce battle for the lead
1:28 - the song loops and the race continues
After taking a break from 99, it was so awesome to come back to these new tracks. Feels like a feverdream, which is always my favorite kind of videogame music
The track is now available, it was pretty cool to race on.
Looked like a baby's first Fire Field in a good way.
I played it and while it wasn’t as challenging as I hoped it would be it was still awesome!
And it's the most brutal, just like the original..

They seemingly rotated every 4-5 days in an order? Idk but this track is now available for a few days.
This remix is definetly the best new soundtrack in my opinion.

It was mined. The song is low quality because Nintendo deliberately used a sample rate of 11.5kHz instead of the standard 44.1kHz.

My guess is in a couple weeks. We'll prolly get the 3rd ??? when the current leaderboard resets, and then this one when the next leaderboard resets, but I could be wrong.

It's a stylistic choice. Makes it sound glitcher
@@kantackistan No, it just sounds more crispy. If it was glitchier, some instruments would sound off-key and whatnot (but it would still sound good). This compression doesn't do a whole lot for it, but it's still good.

After racing on the track, I gotta say its my most favorite track in the game currently. Hope we can have the option to play on all the secret tracks at any time with a future update.
