      So if an event horison is dependant on mass, who is to say a black hole isnt a giant atom? What is the event horison size just over the limit for a neutron star?

    Man, you exceeded yourself once again, this may be my new favourite episode. Neutron stars used to just be bright dense balls in my mind. This documentary answered every question I might have had and so many more on top. Narration and sound design are of course excellent. But as a computer graphics researcher I appreciated the visualisations the most. I'm really interested how they are made.

    • @SEA
      @SEA  6 місяців тому +14

      Thank you so much for your kind words and generous donation! The graphics are mostly made with Space Engine which is a universe simulator on steam. I have permission from them to use it for footage for these videos and after 5+ years of using it I know how it works and how to utilise it to get the footage I need, which I write as an itemised list before I start the video.
      As for other sequences, they are largely from the Storyblocks stock footage website, and some from Vecteezy, but sometimes I use filters and colour tools to make it seem different. And then of course there are also NASA’s public domain visualisations, which are featured around the magnetars section.
      Hope this answers your question! It’s rare I actually animate from scratch

  • @mogensschultzruhoff6770
    @mogensschultzruhoff6770 6 місяців тому +51

    There is something unnerving, yet marvelous, about the sound of that pulsar at the end of the video; Like the heartbeat of a gigantic monster lurking in the darkness of Space, just waiting to pounce and rip you to pieces in its tremendous magnetic field or gravitational pull (if the gamma or X-rays doesn't get you first). Neutron stars are truely some of the most terrifying and fascinating objects in the Universe! Great video, as always.

    • @ExarKun0
      @ExarKun0 6 місяців тому +18

      No, Black Holes are way scarier. To experience the difference, you need a VR headset and 2 games. Space Engine and Elite Dangerous.
      With Neutron stars, atleast you can see it. Unlike small blackholes... Small blackholes are literally invisible unless you come very close to them. If you can see a small black hole that means you're already spaghettified.
      Neutron Stars are freaky because of their size. Try to fly near them, you forget that they're only 20km wide, so it's hard to not get close.

      @@defeatSpace Yeah Space Engine is much better when it comes to Black Holes but I never forget the first time I unexpectedly hyperjumped to a binary Neutron Star system in VR in Elite Dangerous. I nearly had a heartattack.
      Elite definitely needs a Black Hole update. And different types of Neutron Stars/White Dwarfs. It's more important then ship interiors imo.
      I can also recommend Universe Sandbox. Experiencing a Supernova in your face in VR is very scary.

    Easily in the top 5 best educational channels on UA-cam, all of which are tied for 1st. To think that content of this quality is totally free, it challenges my very pessimistic views on humanity and reinstates my faith in it. Thank you for doing what you do.

    BABE GRAB THE BLANKET, NEW SEA VIDEO JUST DROPPED! In all seriousness, Sir Sea, I value your work and your channel. I find it very difficult to find channels that consistently deliver quality content with logical and factually true information. I’ve been hooked on your channel for about a solid year now and I’ve kept coming back on behalf of your incredible know-how of this sorta stuff. Nothing bugs me more than trying to find a video with answers and it’s the typical bullshit that’s spewed out for nothing more than view count and shock value. Keep up the great work, Sir Sea, you’re truly a treasure to the Astronomical Community on UA-cam and the pure jet fuel on the raging fire that is the desire to learn more.

    "An Amazing Journey Through the Cosmos! 🚀" (26:04) "The way you described neutron stars merging and the resulting kilonova explosion was jaw-dropping. The fact that these cataclysmic events produce such a variety of elements, from gold to uranium, was mind-boggling. The visuals, paired with the science behind them, really make this an unforgettable learning experience. Keep up the amazing work!"

    1:55 Fun fact: neutron stars *can* form from stars closer to the sun's mass! If two white dwarfs from sun-like stars were to merge under the right conditions, and their total mass exceeds the Chandrasekhar limit but doesn't exceed the TOV limit, the resulting object can collapse into an ordinary neutron star. An oxygen-neon white dwarf can also collapse into a neutron star by accreting enough matter from a partner to exceed the Chandrasekhar limit.

      What are you apologizing for?

    • @mattorr2256
      @mattorr2256 6 місяців тому +1

      We do not fully understand or even slightly understand a singularity of a black hole. We know they’re unimaginably (infinitely) dense in an unimaginably (infinitely) small area of spacetime in the middle of the black hole. Basically what that means is our mathematics break down at these singularities. We need another genius to explain these most exotic areas of nature. We have a good idea or solid working knowledge of the science going on with neutron stars. We really have no idea what singularities could do or even actually do. They are as foreign to us as foreign gets. Singularities are more outrageous and enigmatic than neutron stars in my opinion, but they are the only thing out there that is…

    • @mattorr2256
      @mattorr2256 6 місяців тому

      I apologize, you said amazing. You’re perfectly good to find anything you want to, to be amazing in your opinion. I thought you said something else like “most insane or most outrageous”. Singularities must be more insane than neutron stars. In my opinion at least
