No-Fuss Fallschirmjäger! - How I Paint Things

  • The German Reich's answer to the paratroopers of other nations, the Fallschirmjäger (or Fallschirmjaeger if you can't reach an umlaut!) were elite troops tasked with spearheading the most difficult offensives or shoring up threatened sectors. READ MORE:
    Pick up your own plastic Fallschirmjäger here! store.warlordg...
    While ground troops, the Fallschirmjäger were technically soldiers of the Luftwaffe, and their dark blue uniform was a source of pride which made them stand out from the rank and file of the Germany Army, the Heer.
    Painting the Splittermuster that makes up their mid-to-late war camo smocks is a little more time consuming than my usual method of just bodging irregular splotches of colour on, but by breaking it down into simple geometric shapes and working in stages. Same as painting anything, really!

    Very nice & well-exicuted demo. Sprinter patter camo was used both by the Luftwaffe & Heer, but there is a difference between the two. The Heer version base colour was more toward the sand /tan spectrum, where the Luftwaffe on was more toward the green spectrum, the green khaki you used for the bread bag would be a good colour in my opinion. As for the Luftwaffe uniform; what I have concluded from my own research is that in the early war years, the blue Luftwaffe uniform was worn in battle, but was replaced mid 43 with the field grey uniform when the regiments were incorporated into the regular army, but Fallschirmjäger troops did retain their Sprinter patter jackets as well as the Luftwaffe uniform officer & NCO caps with the Paratrooper & Luftwaffe badges.

      The camo patterns of Germany's armed forces over the period are absolutely bonkers. There's no surprise there's whole libraries dedicated to the where, when and which were deployed and used. Still, starting with the common stuff gives you plenty to do with most painting projects!

    The Vallejo Air paints are great brushed - they are already thinned to just about the perfect consistency for hand brushing (as opposed to the other Vallejo colors, most of which need thinning.)

    This mini is well detailed, plastic sets give justice to these soldiers.
    P.s. german paras' helmets were Luftwaffe bluegrey for early war, then in feldgrau.

    I love Vallejo Luftwaffe Uniform. It’s a great highlight for black hair, and it seems to be a good color match for the mid/late war Confederate uniforms made of English blue-grey kersey.

    Excellent job as usual. Now this is ironic...I just bought a bunch of Fallschirmjägers and now I'm dying to paint them but can't. I've been moving out of my house for the last few weeks and will not be into the hobby for another couple months until the house has been remodeled. I'm going to have stacks of stuff to do when it's finished as have never stopped buying gaming materials.

      Oh, no! I know all too well the pain of being stuck without hobby supplies when the itch is there... The worst was six months without all my kit when it was on a slow boat from New Zealand to Germany. Now that was hard! Glad to hear that this might prove some use when you do get your hands on your paints again. Fallschirmäger are a pretty interesting unit and being everywhere, you can always have more of them!

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  3 роки тому +2

      I've had pretty good results with the Army Painter brushes. In particular the Regiment brush is the perfect size for most of what I do; a little larger than the Citadel Medium Layer brush, but without losing its tip.

      There are a few in the box which are wearing the shorter, early smocks which you could paint in green grey, but there's a lot of late war equipment with these plastic guys; you're best to paint them as 'later' figures, or pick up a dedicated set of metal miniatures if you want early war figures.
