ok, except that kinetico also has single unit as well, and the compitition also has dual units, so I don't see your point there. At least you can set when you want to regenerate so that you do it when everyone is sleeping. Kinetico if you have a single unit it wwill do it whenever it needs meaning you may be washing clothes or taking a shower in hard water.
I have never seen a Kinetico unit that has a single tank system and I have owned 4 different Kinetico systems in the family since the 70's. I think you are mistaking seeing a single outside tank for meaning that it is a single tank unit. In our oldest unit there was an outside brine tank but inside where the resin tanks and there were two of them. You can choose to wash the filter w/ dirty water if you wish with another brand but I have chosen not to do this and try to time it to when people are asleep. There are other Kinetico advantages not mentioned by the representative here as well such as the amount of water used for regeneration (which costs you money). We had a very close friend w/ a competitor's brand when we choose to buy a Kinetico again after speaking to him. Yes, you could buy multiple units from another brand a few times over and be less than a Kinetico but I still saw a difference in our friend's water and their softener/filter was being treated as a disposable item which it is not. Shortly after we installed our Kinetico, their system died. They continued to replace the system every few years but we still have the same one.
How often does the Kinetico softener regenerate? I can't imagine it only uses 1lb of salt to last for a 4-5 day regeneration like those other softeners...
