SSS did nothing critically or commercially and the trajectory has been something that needed to be studied Gangsta Gibbs was hot for years, especially with the album series that him and alchemist were doing
Gibbs one of the better rappers out. Many can’t even compete with his catalogue. Gibbs sparked something about Jeezy that most of his own circle would basically say about him. Jones and Benny did nothing but have a crew jump Gibbs. Although I hate that Gibbs became mostly none by his online antics, he still has had a better career than most. He still tours as well.
As a big fan of FG music yes it did hurt his music. Especially the BS beef w Benny. I have to agree with the people commenting on here that Freddie Gibbs is more bigger now then he was in 2009-2010. However, I will say I don’t know where his career will go from his last album. Only time will tell. Now when it comes to his situation with Jeezy. I will say being signed to a rapper is not usually in the artist best interest. Even for artist who have got their work out or had some success being signed to an artist for the most part contracts usually don’t favor the artist. I think when he signed to Jeezy he kind of came under Jeezy when Jeezy’s career was beginning to fade but still had some buzz. Yet it wasn’t the same momentum for Jeezy as it was in 2005-2008. Considering those factors while Jeezy may have tried to help Gibbs, Jeezy didn’t have the same wave at the time he did a few years earlier and was trying to keep himself relevant. Now after Gibbs parted ways with Jeezy he ended up signing a venture deal with YG. Now YG got two albums out I think under Jeezy’s label. Although YG never really blew up I think YG had more success because he had the DJ Mustard production which was killing the radio at the time.YG also had his singles with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki on it, which Young Money was still running the game at the time. I think those factors helped get YG’s album out and get him some buzz at least when it comes to the first album. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeezy pushed YG to also send shots at Freddie Gibbs. Ironically enough both YG and Freddie Gibbs released their last albums on the same day with Freddie Gibbs doing a little better than YG. Freddie Gibbs kind of always had this troll mentality. However, I think he got a little bigger over the past few years from putting the work in when it came to his music and albums. Gaining a cult following in that time and just putting out better material or doing collab projects with producers like Madlib and Alchemist. However, I do feel the trolling caused damage to his career in the long run because now certain rappers won’t want to work with him and depending on their relationships and that will cost him. Even still he never was that big of an artist and in reality he don’t make songs the resonate with the masses his music is more catered to his fans and to people who keep up with todays hip hop. At most he probably would have sold 100,000. However, I don’t even know if he sold 50,000 and with his age I don’t know if will see him do a bigger album than his last. Once again only time will tell
If being an internet troll hurt his career then 6ix9ine & lil nas x wouldn't have been as big as they were at one point. It's a new time that I hate but I understand this is what rappers have to do now is sell themselves not just with the music.
