I have a 1973 echoplex ep-3 I'm thinking about restoring it for my home srudio. I have a degree in electronics, but the mechanical side of it I don't know much about. Thank you for these videos. Great job😎
I have one of these critters... it's great. It takes a bit of time to master re-winding the cartridge when it's out of tape... They are a labor of love. You do the labor because you love the sound!
graemey! you are a gentleman and a scholar. I thought it sounded amazing before the maintenance-but that was probably due largely to your awesome playing!
I love what these machines do. I had a Sireko for may years. I was poor so I used old 8-track tape to reload which worked very well. I puchased the Echoplex EP-3 for my birthday last year and have so may issues with it. No run-a-way , worbling, no sound on sound. I purchased a new head for the sound on sound issue, had some transistors replaced and a purchased a new tape. This brought the sound on sound back but very weak and speratic. I also purchased an up dated replacement motor but because of the mounting issues not sure I want to install it. Would rather rebuild the old one.. I hoping to find out why no run-a-way, get the worbling issue taken care of and get the sound on sound to work properly. Any suggestions would be great. Love your videos. Thanks for posting it! Cheers!
They ARE cool. I've got the one my father used playing NY clubs back in the early days of the Ramones and Talking Heads... He used it with a Mini-Moog and stuff like that but I can sure appreciate it with electric guitar through a tube amp. The preamp of these makes a great-sounding boost and EQ shape but you can buy that in a pedal these days. The removal of the unit from the case is the part that I wanted to see and it's cut out of the video.
Maestro has to be the most underrated electronics company.
Thanks a lot for this video. I wish more people made "how to"s for these echo machines...
Nice one! Hope you enjoy it, they are incredible sounding devices. G
Cheers Baz! Thanks for watching. This thing sounds even better in the flesh, you gotta get one for you're amazing collection man! G

Wow, the song at the beginning was actually not excessively generic or terrible. Nice!

Lookup John Martyn - Small Hours for great use of the Echoplex.
Nice One Graeme ( stompy)
Pro job as always
loving the sounds
Jimmy page would be Proud Ha ha
What about grease and oil for all the lubrication points so you don't burn out motors and bearings?
Brilliant timing, had a serious case of GAS for an echoplex last week. I want one! Bloody shame they cost a fortune.

Nice job Graemey !
I like the musial intro,is it your'e own work ?
@bigblockelectra
I certainly wouldn't scrap unit. I would rebuild the circuit on vero board. G
When I plug into mine there's no echo and ideas?? Thanks!
what could be done if that circuit board would have been in 2 pieces? would you have had to scrap the unit or could another one be built (cloned)?
