  • When was the last time you called someone "unprofessional?" You might be surprised to find out what that actually means...

Professionalism is being able to exceed the social norms and expectations for interacting with someone with sufficient excellence in the sought after skill.
It's not betraying the trust of a positive interaction that someone might imagine as likely when deciding whether or not to seek out a member of a given profession.

This was a great video and I think your summary nails it. I personally think of "professional" as meaning "of or related to the profession", so by that I mean that a person is being professional when their conduct or appearance is appropriate to the job. So for example, if a plumber came to my house and started having personal conversations with me instead of focusing on the job at hand, or wore clothes that would be unwieldy while working, or did not bring the right tools with him, I would call that unprofessional. But of course, unprofessional doesn't have to be bad! Maybe I am a friendly guy and I like a plumber who comes over and is friendly and asks about my dog and stuff. Maybe the plumber does this part time on the side and he just came from his main job and that's why he isn't wearing overalls (I actually had an electrician for a while who worked in an office during the day and he'd come after work in his suit.). Unprofessional doesn't have to be bad.
But I think part of the problem is that sometimes we want things to be professional that shouldn't be. I personally would call it unprofessional to bring attention to someone's hairstyle if it isn't directly related to their job (like, going to get stuck in a machine, not "my clients will be offended"). Many organizations theoretically promote professionalism but then do unprofessional things (mandatory office parties, gift exchanges, etc). I think you correctly pointed out that it's all about context, but I think we should not just accept that people always need to be professional.

learned a lot’ but have to also say maybe we shouldn’t use the term Karen within our own subjective judgment 🤷‍♀️ because it’s the same its a collection of behaviour we deem unacceptable just like an unprofessional job 😆

  • @leifleoden5464
    @leifleoden5464 Рік тому +1

To steel-man the Karen side, if your non-standardized appearance choices are making customers feel uncomfortable, you could be costing the company money in reduced business. Furthermore, by triggering internal biases in the customer you may cause your work performance to be perceived as less efficient, which could reflect poorly in customer evaluation surveys.

You can't play that game of "will this offend someone" (outside of obvious/universal social standards) because the answer is always "yes." Therefore, even with that excuse, the truth is that you have already decided that some people are more important than others to avoid offending.

It sounds like you are saying the term professionalism just means behavior that is conducive to arriving at some happy end state in a business transaction or activity but does not really what that end state is or how one gets to that end state.
Thus the happy end state is that the business at hand is conducted in a manner that leads to manner that does not raise too many distractions, collateral damage, or additional cost or delay or hassle but has a high promise of ending with a win win for all with win being limited to the business at hand relevant to the activities that the professionals are charged with accomplishing.
Thus if one buys a car and both the buyer and seller are happy and both think they got a fair deal with little to no ruffled feather along the way then that would be a professional transaction , even if one might have wished to get it for less or that it had a nicer say radio.
So if the salesmen had green hair if that green hair did not prevent the above form happening then it was not professional to have green hair. But if having green hair interfered with such happy ending for a transaction (that is on a frequent enough bases enough to pose a problem) having green hair is still not necessarily bad, but might be bad for that business, at that time and so maybe might be cionside4d "unprofessional" while at some later time it would not be bad for business and the be OK.
But there is a moral question as well as the question of professionalism such as discriminatingly by race, color, or religion and such so if one might be accused of being unprofessional say by selling cars to some looked down upon minority (which might tarnish the companies standing with some other group that looks down on that group) then that would transcend any notion of professionalism and would be more of a manner of principle.

Hey man! Here’s just some advice that you don’t have to take it you don’t want to, but I decided to give just in case it manages to help.
With only a handful of videos posted on your channel thus far, while it’s cool to have such a unique and broad myriad of content featuring more than just 1 main overall topic…
You might also want to be careful because it’s hard to grow any UA-cam channel solely based off personality, and it’s better to have a sort of idea of one or two certain topics or concepts to work on here and then make a second channel for this sort of stuff there.
Though, you can do whatever you’d like. I just wanted to give you some small advice based off of what little I know about UA-cam and how to best make gains within an algorithm.
It’s okay to broaden your content to different things, but I just personally recommend trying to find a good way to organize or separate them in order to best succeed. I wish yuh the best of luck xD.
You’re doing great either way regardless. Keep up the good work man!!

@@ChrisTheBrain I’m sure you’ll be able to. In case this helps: I recommend creating different playlists for the different video topics on your channel (while you decide whether you’re going to make a second channel or not), so that it’s organized out by category of video topic whenever someone looks on your channel for any specific content in the meantime.
It’s possible you already have this setup, but I’m on mobile at the moment, and so I believe I don’t have a way of checking.
Thanks for taking my constructive criticism well! I hope this managed to help, cheers.

Shiiiit! You are so heavy on me you risk quashing my mind. Stop it. Take a seat and relax already. But on the more ponderous side, I love you in all of the perspectives of various insights you propose, although I have to admit my dense light-headedness when you talk Physics, and I studied to be an engineer too. The fact that you can be philosophical, realistic, informed, perspicacious, nonchalant, funny as hell, and irreverent shows that every ounce of your massive presence (eh ehm, metaphorically speaking) has something to offer to the most discerning of the followers of your Word. Me, I like to think of your content as a glass of sweet stuff that I imbibe is short, slow, soft sucks while the flavor permeates most of the remaining working neurons in my body. Ahhh! I must be feeling happy.

Use of a word normal is really unhealthy too. Like something not being normal can be only reason why something is supposed to be bad, no need for logic or reasons because there is no. It can be even ovbious for everyone that somethin is not a best way to do something, butt it has to be done by normal way, because if something is not normal it is bad, because that is apparently how it works.
I can understant cultural things, but I'm not sure if it is the behind everything in every case.
