It's no surprise that the Diamonds harmonize so well. Yellow Diamond is Patti LuPone. Blue Diamond is Lisa Hannigan. White Diamond is Christine Ebersole. Between them, they have four Tonys, an Emmy, two Grammys, two Olivier awards, and a literal score of other nominations and awards in the US and overseas.
A lot of people don’t like the message of the end of the movie and this song and I can understand why but I honestly think it works and it’s very wholesome She was a kid who was grieving over the loss of her family, and they were a family who was grieving over the loss of their kid, and both happened to be the same person (Pink Diamond) They were suffocating Steven a bit because they missed having a child in their lives so much, and now they have a child who’s suffered so much and wants all the attention, care and love that they can give As the song says, together, they can learn to love again I can see how the execution can be flawed considering that the Diamonds are not good people, but in concept at least, ignoring the fact that the Diamonds have done a LOT of messed up stuff, I think it ties the two stories perfectly and gives closure and conclusion to both sides
I find it hard to see the ending as a flawed one just because the bad people got a happy ending, even bad people deserve a happy ending if they dedicate themselves to repair their mistakes and keep doing good things in the future, even more considering they'll probably keep doing good things forever since they are basically immortal, the villain perishing is a satisfying ending but not a good one since nothing will change from the things they did anyway.
@@danielmilcent9654 I agree, I just meant that I also understand the people that are worried that the Diamonds may traumatize Spinel even further considering that their family was an unhealthy and abusive one when Pink Diamond was around They are bettering themselves and that’s great but the past and all the harm they’ve done to countless people and most importantly to Pink Diamond who was in spirit their daughter can’t be undone or forgotten But, if you ignore the fact that they were kind of abusive and that the chance that they may do even more harm to Spinel (even if not consciously) is a reasonable one, the ending works, in concept I can understand the people who didn’t like the ending, and it’s not because the bad people got a happy ending, but because they might not be good people for Spinel (an already very traumatized person) to be around and call her family Their redemption was very rushed and half assed as well so that doesn’t help because it doesn’t feel like they wouldn’t do what they did to Pink all over again but to Spinel this time For example, Yellow Diamond laughed at Spinel saying that it was nothing when Steven told them that she was stuck in a floating garden for 6,000 years So basically I liked the ending because I get what Rebecca Sugar was trying to do and it works very very well as a concept even if in execution it causes issues when you consider the characters we’re talking about, and because of that I can totally understand the criticism and the people who didn’t like it
I think people try to think too deep sometimes, the whole thing with the ending is about never stop bettering yourselves, i can understand their thinking, but again they are thinking too deep without the need for it, Spinel more than anyone would know if things get bad in such a relationship

My brain also wanted a fourth, "Come on." I can't help but feel like it may have been an intentional lead. That missing fourth harmony of Pink Diamond. Spinel singing her own song along with theirs and it working kinda pulls that in. She's not pink, and she can't be pink. But they can still make each other's lives a little less empty.
I don't understand four part harmony. Because in this song, the melody and harmonies are based off of the chords, which do have extensions but if you added the extensions into the melody it wouldn't match. Is it just when the 1st person sings main melody, 2nd sings middle melody, 3rd person sings lower melody, and fourth person sings the main melody but an octave lower?
I think the feeling that there was a fourth "come on" but it being missing is trying to mimic, or give us, the feeling they have with Pink gone. Pink Diamond was the 4th for their Quartet, but she is gone, so they have the last bit of them missing and are trying to find something to fill in the gap, hence why they were trying to get Steven to join them. They adopt Spinel and she fills in different gaps they didn't know could be added to and it ends up working just as great as this new thing.

Dude you make such a great point with the 'come on come on come on' arpeggiatic build. If I know Rebecca Sugar at all, that was totally intentional! The 'her' they refer to in the song several times was actually a fourth in their group who they lost. It's likely symbolic that there's a fourth part both absent and needed. And when the little pink one joins at the end, it's likely symbolic of somebody ready to fill in that fourth in their group again, adding a part that literally fills in the gaps in the music.
It's so magic to re-experience those songs and, by extension, their stories trough the eyes (and ears) of somebody else, now the series has ended. Specially someone who knows their music theory, oh yeah. Right there pointing out everything great with the, um, record. :)

I don’t really know the first thing about music or playing an instrument so it’s really interesting to see all these songs from that new perspective. You should react to the Reprised Solos of the Diamonds for this song where there is a channel and it edited outs the other diamonds voices to listen to only one diamond and you will be surprised by Blue Diamond’s solo
Ahh, I love them all!! You know, the voice actors for white and yellow (Christine Ebersole and Patti LuPone) starred opposite each other in the musical War Paint on Broadway, I loved listening to them belt it out and riff together!
You know why the last "come on" is missing? Because that was supposed to be Pink's part, and we all know pink diamond was shattered. It's also cool how you said it reminded you of a barbershop quartet because there were four diamonds so it really makes sense why it sounds like it's missing!

Something that I thought was really cool about the “Come on” section was as that each “come” has the same note as the “on” of the next higher voice part. If I were to guess why, it’s probably to make all the parts feel more cohesive and like they flow into each other. Awesome vid btw, I feel like we kinda share the same energy
The reprise being both a reprise of "Let Us Adore You" and "Found" is wonderfully genius and gives me the picture of two broken vases. They're not the same style or material, but the cracks match, so... Why the heck not try and make a new whole with that?
sometimes the best songs have things left out that the brain thinks should be in there its like incompletion anxiety but makes a different kind of addicting feeling
A nice touch I love about the reprise is that towards the end the diamonds and Spinel swap their lines before singing the end together (and the completed quartet is super cute). Also, their relationship teaches that a grieving parent and grieving child can form a bond even stronger than the one that both lost AND that loving someone because you choose to love them is so much stronger then loving out of obligation or the bond of blood

I like the fact that you talked about the harmony feeling incomplete because I feel like the writers did that on purpose, because that was what pink diamond would have sang, and instead of spinel being that harmony, they added a different part to show that spinel wasn't replacing pink diamond (shown when the diamonds said "yes we know that you're not her"), but instead if was someone new that they could love, even if spinel wasn't a diamond

There used to be a fourth diamond -- and that's the "Her" they're singing about and mourning. They are incomplete, and painfully aware of it.
Well the diamonds are kind of a quartet missing their last harmony so, in a sad but beautiful way, it still can fit. Like continuously hearing that final note that no one can sing anymore.

This song started my acquaintance with Steven Universe) It's funny that for some time I often heard from friends about this cartoon, but for some reason I was not particularly interested in it. This was partly due to the fact that in my country the name was translated as Steven's Universe and I thought that the essence of the cartoon is that a little boy tells his friend stories about fictional characters (Amethyst, Pearls and Garnet) and that is why this is Steven's Universe. And then I got into a rather unpleasant, if not terrible, mood for a long time. Nothing pleased, the feeling of complete desolation. I couldn’t even start making my own cartoons, let alone everyday things like studying at the university. And suddenly UA-cam started offering me songs from Steven Universe, at first I ignored it, but still launched Let Us Adore You and I liked this song so much that I gave the cartoon a chance and it literally pulled me out of sadness by the collar. So thank you so much for this reaction! P.S. I apologize if the translator messed up somewhere again.

But the song heavily deals with the feelings associated with coming to a crux in someone's life and how either of their choices will help them or lead them to ruin without explaining what awaits them.

I know you were reminded of a barbershop quartet and that's why it felt like that fourth voice was missing, and that's very close to what they were going for, but not quite. The feeling that the Crewniverse was trying to copy with this triple diamond harmony was more along the lines of vintage female trio groups that were common in the 1940's. :)

Dude you make such a great point with the 'come on come on come on' arpeggiatic build. If I know Rebecca Sugar at all, that was totally intentional! The 'her' they refer to in the song several times was actually a fourth in their group who they lost. It's likely symbolic that there's a fourth part both absent and needed. And when the little pink one joins at the end, it's likely symbolic of somebody ready to fill in that fourth in their group again, adding a part that literally fills in the gaps in the music.

Ahh, I love them all!! You know, the voice actors for white and yellow (Christine Ebersole and Patti LuPone) starred opposite each other in the musical War Paint on Broadway, I loved listening to them belt it out and riff together!
You know why the last "come on" is missing? Because that was supposed to be Pink's part, and we all know pink diamond was shattered. It's also cool how you said it reminded you of a barbershop quartet because there were four diamonds so it really makes sense why it sounds like it's missing!

Something that I thought was really cool about the “Come on” section was as that each “come” has the same note as the “on” of the next higher voice part. If I were to guess why, it’s probably to make all the parts feel more cohesive and like they flow into each other.

The reprise being both a reprise of "Let Us Adore You" and "Found" is wonderfully genius and gives me the picture of two broken vases. They're not the same style or material, but the cracks match, so... Why the heck not try and make a new whole with that?

A nice touch I love about the reprise is that towards the end the diamonds and Spinel swap their lines before singing the end together (and the completed quartet is super cute). Also, their relationship teaches that a grieving parent and grieving child can form a bond even stronger than the one that both lost AND that loving someone because you choose to love them is so much stronger then loving out of obligation or the bond of blood

I like the fact that you talked about the harmony feeling incomplete because I feel like the writers did that on purpose, because that was what pink diamond would have sang, and instead of spinel being that harmony, they added a different part to show that spinel wasn't replacing pink diamond (shown when the diamonds said "yes we know that you're not her"), but instead if was someone new that they could love, even if spinel wasn't a diamond

Regarding the part where you said they're singing three parts, and you *really* want to add in a fourth one? The three giant ladies singing are called the Diamonds. There used to be a fourth diamond -- and that's the "Her" they're singing about and mourning. They are incomplete, and painfully aware of it.
Well the diamonds are kind of a quartet missing their last harmony so, in a sad but beautiful way, it still can fit. Like continuously hearing that final note that no one can sing anymore.

It's funny that for some time I often heard from friends about this cartoon, but for some reason I was not particularly interested in it. This was partly due to the fact that in my country the name was translated as Steven's Universe and I thought that the essence of the cartoon is that a little boy tells his friend stories about fictional characters (Amethyst, Pearls and Garnet) and that is why this is Steven's Universe. And then I got into a rather unpleasant, if not terrible, mood for a long time. Nothing pleased, the feeling of complete desolation. I couldn’t even start making my own cartoons, let alone everyday things like studying at the university. And suddenly UA-cam started offering me songs from Steven Universe, at first I ignored it, but still launched Let Us Adore You and I liked this song so much that I gave the cartoon a chance and it literally pulled me out of sadness by the collar. So thank you so much for this reaction!

Please do "Bad Apple" as it's a song based on a game series from Tohou featuring the characters and their interactions with one another. But the song heavily deals with the feelings associated with coming to a crux in someone's life and how either of their choices will help them or lead them to ruin without explaining what awaits them.

I know you were reminded of a barbershop quartet and that's why it felt like that fourth voice was missing, and that's very close to what they were going for, but not quite. The feeling that the Crewniverse was trying to copy with this triple diamond harmony was more along the lines of vintage female trio groups that were common in the 1940's. :)
