You should check out more of Avi's work . The group you saw him with in the compilation video is Pentatonix, a truly incredible a capella group with a 10 year career and an enormous catalog of covers and originals (some written [or co-written] by Avi). He was with them until 2017, when he left amicably due to personal reasons. As incredible as his overtones are, his bass is even more impressive. He now has a solo career, and has put out some truly amazing work of his own.

Avi is a classically trained Basso Profundo.
He was headed straight to the L.A. opera when PTX found him.
That a true bass has a whistle voice is fabulous to me.
His solo work since leaving PTX is mostly Americana Folk and he writes 98% of his own music.
His reason for leaving PTX was a total breakdown. He would be labeled a Highly Sensitive person and 6 years of the unrelenting pace of the group was more than he could handle.
He escaped to his cabin deep in the forests of Tennessee where he writes, does interviews,
hikes through the hills and forests taking pictures of wild things along the way.
He shares his pictures with his fans. Recently, he has been saving turtles walking across the road. :)
He is from California and his parents still live there.
If you ever need peaceful music to decompress, find some of Avi's work like Aberdeen, Sage and Stone, Fields and Pier and the list goes on and one.
He has on warrior song, Change on the Rise.
Thank you for your great reaction to a great musician.
He and Dimash are my favorite singers.

Pam - Avi isn't mentally ill. He had total touring burnout and is fine now. It is a situational problem for all touring artists and their roadies. An industry wide problem that looks a bit worse when you see it in an introvert like Keanu Reeves or Avi who need time without constant people stimulation to recover. Here are stories about other musicians and the same problem www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-49004206.amp

3:43 . Overtone is a type of throat singing . I can do overtones and it's very simple when you figure out how . The whistle town is not the difficulty part that just happens . The hard part is moving your mouth into the correct position to control what type of sound the whistle is making . (No the whistle is not coming out the nose you can cover your nose and still make the sound I just checked . )

Avi is awesome. He left Pentatonix in 2017 and does his own solo work now. He dropped a new song yesterday. Would love a reaction.

Overtones our resonant sounds that are completely made by the vocal tract. They are made by changing the shape of the vocal tract as the air is going through while maintaining the low note. It's crazy. 😎

eyyyyy it's Avi! Nice to see such an amazing vocalist getting some love. He doesn't sing with Pentatonix anymore but they're worth checking out as a whole. Their performance of Dog Days Are Over from Sing Off that you saw a bit of is one of my favorites. And speaking of whistle notes, Kirsty from Pentatonix can also hit them. Much like Band Maid, they were a group that captured me from the moment I first saw them. I don't follow them so much these days but I highly, /highly/ recommend them.
You could do worse than checking out other stuff from The Sing Off, too. As a guitarist, I have a pretty good idea of what I don't know how to do, the concepts out there that I need to learn still. But man, Sing Off sure showed me what I didn't know about singing. So many amazing performers, and Pentatonix blew them all out of the water. They brought a level of innovation to acapella that had never been seen before, they were able to bring something unexpected to every performance. Pick a song they did from the show, any of them, and you'll see what I mean.
Thanks for these videos, I'm glad you're having so much fun with them.

I just subbed in hopes of seeing you react to Avi's a capella group, Pentatonix, and his solo works! Pentatonix revamped what a capella is & can be in 2011! Avi performed w/them thru 2017. They now have Matt singing bass in their group. They do everything from Christmas Carols to electronic music - all a capella! Please react to them & their members' solo projects - including Avi! You'll be PTX-slapped. They're unbelievable! 💖

Here's Avi himself teaching an a cappella workshop at the University of Tennessee back in early 2017 (a few months before he announced his departure from PTX), and he's explaining in detail how to do overtone singing: ua-cam.com/video/fEEAfNij_JU/v-deo.html

Great reaction! In a couple of the clips, Pentatonix was performing on a TV a capella singing competition called The Sing Off. Out of the 16 singing groups, they had the least number of people, so when Avi did this on the show, it was almost like they had a 6th singer. Also, Mitch & Kirstie from PTX can do whistle tones. If you want to see a wonderful example of whistle tone singing by Kirstie, PTX performed for the National Capital Concert on July 4th, where she pulled it off live. Here's a link to that performance - love to see your reaction to that: ua-cam.com/video/qO01TIVX3SM/v-deo.html

😀👉Avi Kaplan is THE GREATEST AT bass/basso profundo/overtone singing.
React to PENTATONIX for Avi's AMAZING bass and at times overtone (Avi is no longer in PENTATONIX but Matt Sallee stepped in as bass and is AMAZING )
Kevin Olusula is the INCREDIBLE beatboxer!!
Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado and Mitch Grassi are primarily the singing trio and THEY ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!

Overtone singing is common throughout central Asia but also occurs in parts of Europe, Africa and among Native Americans.

Avi's notes are referred to as overtones. If you want to hear a man doing actual vocal whistle tones check out Mitch Grassi. He is the countertenor for Pentatonix and there are videos showing his incredible range.

It truly is remarkable, but not as remarkable as you would think. It is a tradition going back millenia. Also known as throat singing. I'm so glad Avi has brought it to such a wide audience. But google Overtone singing and you'll see the extent of it. It is extensively from Mongolia and that portion of the world But Avi is a master, and PTX used it to incredible effect many times.

Common in the Middle East & parts of Asia. Some have been able to teach themselves, but ethnic background helps! 💖

I can sing overtones, but not nearly to Avi's level. I always have a hard time explaining how I do it because it just kinda came to me when I was a teenager. And no, the nose has nothing to do with it...it's all mouth. As for whistle tones, both Kirstie & Mitch are EXCELLENT at that. There are videos on UA-cam of them doing whistle tones. Kirstie actually sings a whole song in whistle tones on one of those videos.

If you really want some impressive whistle tones from a guy, you got to check out Gabriel Henrique doing Mariah's emotions song. He is from Brazil, English isn't his native tongue, but he is teaching himself English. He native tongue is Portuguese. He also covers the divas, Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Beyonce. I highly encourage you to check him out if you haven't. Btw you gained a Sub here brother.

@@vand3rhorst I also caught your live stream, hours later unfortunately. I was wondering what type of music you enjoy? Reacting to certain groups can grow your subscribers quickly. Although thru your live stream you seem to be really good with your subs. Just brainstorming. If it doesn't interest you, no worries. That what UA-cam is about. Finding your niche, and doing you. Congrats on the Ibanez guitar.

@@vand3rhorst my suggestions that would slam you into the algorithms would be Home Free (Austin Brown is in the group and he's from GA). Pentatonix, State Of Mind (Garth Brooks songs with a bit of a rock edge). All these groups have legions of fans who are loyal. Home Free & Pentatonix are acapella groups, but they will blow your mind. If you like heavier stuff, I can reach out to a UA-camr who runs a music Academy in British Columbia, Canada. But obviously he would need someway to contact you. Are you on IG, or maybe a business email so as not to give away any personal info. He runs a livestream on Monday nights @11pm your time. It really a good place to get in with like minded individuals. It Temple Music Academy. His name is DJ Temple. He's a music teacher there. He plays in a band as a guitarist called Without Mercy.
