    After four days of racing, and plenty of ups and downs, it’s time for the infamous Wheeler stage. We’ll be climbing up to over 12,000 feet (3658 m) of elevation, not once but twice, in only 25 miles (40 km). This means hike-a-bike - and a lot of it.
    Despite being the shortest stage in terms of mileage, this may very well be the hardest - a physical challenge yes, but even more so a test of mental fortitude.

    Those weeds remind me of what it was like up on Pipeline above SLC about 30 yrs ago. I was running downhill and met someone coming up in one of those blind curves. We slammed together, I’m 6’4”, I broke my nose on his helmet. We both got up and rode off. Funny, first guy behind one of us looks at my bike and says “dude, your front wheel is OK”…😂

    I recommend some charcoal for your nausea. It really works. Yes, that same blackened stuff that you get when you burn wood will help you stop feeling nauseous. Totally serious. They sell charcoal tablets, or you can buy charcoal powder and capsulize it yourself. You don't need a lot. One or two little pill-size capsules and some water. You'll be feeling better in no time.

    I continue to be amazed by the chunk the two of you handle with xc bikes. I get the desire for lightweight but do you ever wish for a more slack fork? Are the competitors running similar rigs?

    • @PatrickJohannes-os5bv
      @PatrickJohannes-os5bv 18 годин тому +1

      Agreed, I was wondering why not opt for the Delano Peak since some sections of the trail look pretty gnarly. DP may be a bit heavier but I'd think time could be made up by faster descents.

    • @sydandmacky
      @sydandmacky  9 годин тому +1

      Yes, pretty much everyone in the pro field is on an xc bike! There was nothing on this course where we felt like we needed more suspension or slacker geo (the signal peak is pretty progressive for an XC bike and rides great through rough stuff). If we were going to take a weight penalty it would be with tires, but even that isn't worth it with this much climbing. For the record, I love my Delano peak and it would be fun on these trails, but it's a full 6lbs heavier than my signal, and it would be pretty much impossible to offset that on these descents.

    • @sydandmacky
      @sydandmacky  9 годин тому

      We both ended up sick after the race so I do think we had a bug, but I'm guessing the attitude accentuated the nausea. A lot of people were sick so I think something was being passed around the race.
