I got a question, It was intensional the spin to show the other side of Hermes? Because when it shift the tone to a more serious one, spin to show the side that looks normal without the fluffy thing that I don´t know the name of, idk, It´s just a silly thing I notice (Sorry, EN is not my main language)
Mortius: "Any mythological basis?" Me, who has studied mythology in uni: "MY TIME TO SHINE" Someone else already commented on the "Odin being a name for Hermes," which is the first time I'm hearing that as far as I can remember. HOWEVER, one thing that gets used quite a bit in mythology is how connection between "blindness" and "foresight". To tie back to Odin, He gave up an eye, nd had it put in a well of knowledge he got to drink from. Something that lets him literally keep his eye on things there (in some interpretations). Or how prophets, like Thiresias, are usually blind or have their eyes covered. Their sight having been exchanged for a different sight altogether. I went back through the animatic, and all the times we get to see one eye from Hermes behind the sunglasses is when information/future events is being revealed/hinted towards. And yes, I'm including that for the "so you're the one who talked to Calypso", because that is still a revalation, even if a self-explanatory one, so Hermes doesn't say anything. One exception is the time he uses one-eye stare to intimidate the sirens/harpies into buzzing off. Other than that each time is Hermes divulging knowledge whether through hints or seemingly blatant statements (even the "Open this bag and you'll never make it home" came true in its own way, seeing as consensus is that it's no longer the same Ody who returned after the bag got opened). Though with the last "one eye" being Ody stepping up to the challenge, I'm leaning towards classifying it with the first one as "Hermes being impressed by his grandson. .... That or it's all a nod to artists hating to draw "the other eye"
That may also come from what Tacitus said in his Germania, about how the germanic peoples honoured Mercury in a certain day of the week that may be the modern Wednesday ("Woden's day" or "Odin's day" if you go by his nordic name). While he didn't express his reasoning, there may have been some syncretism going on already around those parts.
Since she was basically the one that set the tone for the helmet casting a shadow over Hermes’ eyes, Ximena having the helmet pop off his head was SURREAL. In a fun way, though. I love it 🤣
I love how when Hermes brings out the windbag, every creator chose to make him pull Odysseus close. For how nonchalant/silly he is, he truly does care about Odysseus since he's his kin. I just think it's really sweet!
22:54 - Something I've heard is that Hermes is sometimes depicted with his eyes being shaded. This is because the eyes are the "gateway to the soul" and since he is a trickster, he doesn't want others knowing his intentions/true self. So some people take the "shade" and turn them into "shades". Not sure how accurate this is to mythos, but this is something I've heard a few times (and personally agree with) (That and of course, TROY wearing glasses whenever he's Hermes)
14:56 *Inhale* MY "Um actually" MOMENT HAS FINNALLY COME BECAUSE HE'S RIGHT IN CALLING THEM SIRENS! The ORIGNAL sirens were women who were part bird part woman. They lured sailors and men to their nest on high cliffs and rocky shores where they mated with them then killed them. These versions of sirens were also STRICTLY female. With males being born human (And probably killed) while females carried on the Siren DNA. They are often mistake for Harpies but they are not.
@davisranger There probably were but either lost in time or were burned by those who didn't like it. Just like Ares, he is mostly written as a stupid brute whom nobody likes. But that because most of his mythologys were burned down by Athens who favored Athena over him. Sorry for my garbage English
28:55 In most myths it is said that Hermes invented the lyre on his first day of birth, then (due to fate) he gave it to Apollo, so that's what marks: *Wouldn't You Like*: The instruments are harps and lyres (referring to the invention of the lyre) *God games*: Apollo's main instrument is the lyre (a reference to the lyre now belonging to Apollo) *Dangerous*: Now we only hear the harp (because Hermes gave the lyre to Apollo) Fun fact: Although it is said that Hermes stole many things from the gods, such as Aphrodite's belt, Artemis's bow and even Poseidon's trident
@@meganjoho Yeah! It is also mentioned that he was one of the few gods who was not afraid of Poseidon (of course he respected him, but there was no fear) so it fits perfectly
I don't think it was because of fate xD. Hermes stole Apollo's sacred cows the day he was born, Apollo complained to Zeus and Zeus just thought it was hilarious. Then Hermes won over Apollo by playing the lyre and Apollo traded it for his caduceus and his position as the messenger of the gods or something like that. (that's what I think I remember from an Overly Sarcastic video 😅)
@MarianGonzalez-gt1wd In fact, I know that all that happened and that's why he gave the lyre to Apollo, but I didn't want to make it so long and get off topic, but I'm glad you explained it 😅
My favorite detail in Orange's animatic has to be when Ody says "Every trick, every skill put to use for this" is that it pans over his Athena charm. A clever lil detail and I like it :3
Note about constellations in Orange's animatic! That *WAS* the dipper, but it's the Little Dipper. Ursa Minor has Polaris, the North Star, at the tail end of it!!
@ 15:50 if you guys see in Orange's animatic, I imagined Odysseus having flashbacks from the Ocean Saga when his crew betrayed him & Poseidon demolishes his entire fleet, except the one ship he & 43 men were left. Hermes got a sense of him being unwell when talking about the windbag & just comforts him pulling him in for a hug & reassuring he'll be okay as long as he knows how dangerous this situation is.
Glad to see your reaction on this many animatics, they all gorgeous! Also... Please react to zieru's animatic for dangerous too! It's just a must watch, it's basically an animation
My personal take for why Hermes doesn't mention who fought for him, is that he needs Odysseus to be monstrous to get home, and if he mentioned Athena for that, it might bring up more of Ody's mortal emotions. Just my thoughts!
i am absolutly obsessed with sythwave and the fact that most animators make the background pink purples and yellows makes me SO happy cause thoes are common synth colors!!
So the one eye thing Hermes does in Orange's animatic is probably just for coolness, but there is the very small chance that it is a reference to Odin from Norse mythology. This is because Mercury, the Roman equivalent of Hermes/the Roman version of Hermes, was conflated with Odin by the Roman's. They saw that Odin and Hermes/Mercury were similar in many ways and so thought that they were the same deity but from two different cultures. Again unlikely, but still possible reference.
I’m so glad you guys did Orange’s animation. I was looking at so many different Hermes designs for one of my cosplays and Orange’s design was perfect. I’m going to Dream Con next year and Hermes was going to be my day two cosplay, it’s gonna be perfect to wear in the Texas heat. 🤩🤩
I just watched Zieru's animatic right after watching this video. Holy crap that one was good! I can see why you were expecting that one here, and if Mortius and Casper haven't seen it yet they have my recommendation for it as well!
28:56 For anyone wondering: Hermes actually invented the Lyre! Hermes, a mischievous child since birth, crawled out of the cave (?) He was born in search of qn adventure. Using the intestines from apollo's cattle (or sheep, depending on the story) and the shell of a turtle he killed, he made the Lyre and learnt how to play it. Keep in mind, it was an infant. After which, he presented the Lyre to apollo, the then god of prophecy and music (I say then because this story was written before he became the sun god, I believe) and the god himself fell in love with the instrument, claiming it as his signature item.
7:05 looks like Hermes remembered Ody is (probably) his Great Grandson. 17:10 ish and now I need to go Play Hades 2 some more... 28:50 Hermes stole Apollo's cattle and when confronted whipped out the Lyre (which he had invented earlier) and Apollo wanted it... and that's how Hermes did *not* get in trouble for stealing another god's stuff (he was also like days old or something... it was kind of crazy). So yeah, Hermes *invented* the Lyre but it is Apollo's "thing".
So, the winged girls where probably ment to be the harpies but the original sirens where actual winged woman in greek mythology, the didnt have fish tails. First they where winged women the just naked woman and later they somehow turned into mermaids over the years. In the source material they where still depicted as winged woman. Weirdly he also met the Harpies at an other place and those are also winged woman. however they are often depicted more bird like then humanl like a bird with a face of a woman and boobs. Original sirens are more likely to be depicted as woman with wings and bird claws, more humanoid then bird like. But a lot of famos paintings just depict the sirens as naked woman on a hill in the ocean.
29:03 Ok so I think Casper is thinking of Hermes stealing Apollo’s cattle when he was a young god. In order to get Apollo to forgive him, he created the Lyre and plays it which gets Apollo to stop being angry because he is a fan of catchy songs. Apollo then gives him the Caduceus (aka his staff). Hermes was in many ways the trickster god as well as everything else we know him for
20:49 With a sail that set up like that, the wind blowing at you actually pushes it forward because physics… I think. If I’m remembering how sail boats work correctly. Or it’s not wind it’s just movement blur.
Since you are watching animations of songs you already know, please also watch Wouldn't you like from Laritamiauu. I think it's one of the best projects of Hermes and it's worth seeing.(Sorry if I made mistakes, English is not my native language)
12:46 Now that u mention it the constellation right There looks like Ursa Minor and it makes sense cause The first star in the constellation is supposed to be the North star
Hey guys, animation nerd here 👋 The reason animators use eyes being seen through glasses is to show the (true feelings behind the mask). Basically, it shows that Hermes, despite being a goofball trickster god, he genuinely cares and is serious about the info. He is showing his true intentions. That can go both ways in animation. If a character has a smirk in the eyes or hatred, it is a big reveal to the character as well as the audience.
so for the gigi wind thing casper was pointing out, I believe it was just showing the speed of the boat so the wind moving back is showing how fast they are going
when Jay was making Hermes' motif, he actually talked abt him having the lyre during WYL along with the arps and harps and taking it out in Dangerous bc of the myth that when Hermes was a baby, he stole Apollo's cows(??) and as like an apology, Hermes gave him the lyre, which is on Apollo's motif in God Games:D
Scilla's dangerous animatic was on loop for 3 weeks solid - by the time they released the full one upon dangerous coming out their take on the wind bag became my favourite of all time. You did miss poseidon's smile in the waves in that one c:
Future me, was this worth it? Edit: IT was worth it! I loved this video so much! I can't wait for the next saga and it's been a amazing ride with you both! Like they say, greet the world with open arms everyone!
Orange's is my favorite. Has been ever since it came out. I like how it *really* leans into Hermes being a god of journeys and protector of travelers. So many of the other ones just have him flitting around and hyping Ody up while he does all of the actual work. Which is a totally valid take! This is not a critique of that choice. I just like this one better. That is his great-grandson, one of his favored mortals, alone, and falling fully within his domain. Hermes would *absolutely* be helping him.
Ooh one thing i only just noticed now (i did see Orange’s version before now) is that Orange not only included Troy’s sunnies into this animatic, but also his fur coat. 😅 such a great detail. 😝
For orange's animatic it could be a refence to how Hermes would be taking by the Romans turned into Merkry (Roman messager god) and the sincritisted with Odin
Hi so about your question with the one eye thing with Oranges animatic. I have noticed whenever Herme is serious there is one eye visible under his sunglasses.
Just here to recommend Uitzil’s Charybdis animatic again on the off chance that you guys haven’t filmed that video yet, even if it’s a little bonus thing at the end like you did with Gigi’s in this video! I really hope you get to it, it’s very good!
12:50 If this is meant to be the plough (big dipper for Americans) it’s not placed correctly- the two stars that make up the far end of the rectangular bit are used to find Polaris as they point to it, but it’s a way off. Tbf, the North Star potentially wouldn’t have been Polaris back then due to precession but it wouldn’t be at that end of the plough either.
For those wondering about Zieru's Dangerous animatic, this was recorded before they released it which is why it's not on here

Ahhh I need to finish my animatics , epics animator's are so talented
Can you please on next Epic Sunday, Watch Thunder bringer from Anni
The *One Eye* thing is a dramatik effect often used in Anime.
7:59 This has nothing to do with the video, I just like Mortius' serious "I'm listening" face. They're so silly, such a nerd/pos 😂
Ooh one thing i only just noticed now (i did see Orange’s version before now) is that Orange not only included Troy’s sunnies into this animatic, but also his fur coat. 😅 such a great detail. 😝
I am BEGGING!! Please check out this one my mikuchis!! I love their animation style and their depiction of Hermes! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Orange's animatic is my favourite tbh. I love their Hermes design, especially when he is wearing a helmet
Hermes invented the lyre, then he gave it to Apollo to pay for his crimes against him
In Ximena’s animatic, it said “it’s day time” 😀
For orange's animatic it could be a refence to how Hermes would be taking by the Romans turned into Merkry (Roman messager god) and the sincritisted with Odin
Oh yeah, Scilla nimation's animatic is the one on my official playlist bc there's So Many Excellent Moments, it's really crazy and just So Cool!!!!
"Is there a group chat where you're all talking?", I mean, I would think a few of them are in the Epic Discord server... so, Maybe
What I like about this song is that it emphasizes Hermes as the god of Travellers. Wouldn't You Like focuses on Hermes messenger side more
Yes, we like this format.
Orange has my FAVORITE dangerous!
It took me a moment to understand the lyre joke too loll 😭😭
Hi so about your question with the one eye thing with Oranges animatic. I have noticed whenever Herme is serious there is one eye visible under his sunglasses.
Just here to recommend Uitzil’s Charybdis animatic again on the off chance that you guys haven’t filmed that video yet, even if it’s a little bonus thing at the end like you did with Gigi’s in this video! I really hope you get to it, it’s very good!
Me, looking at Hermes from the second animatics, with black glasses as bright white eyes:
"It was never meant to be"
@@Platinum_Imp Oh god
Oh my god.
PLEASE REACT TO ZIERU'S ANIMATIC!!!! ITS SO GOOODDDDD
I have to contest the Pokemon choice, those were SUPER Slurpuff coded to me haha
Watch Dangerous from Zieru I really wanna hear what you both say!
Wellll I think he could look really clean. Because Cal would want him to look perfectly and take care he does
If you end up watching more animatics. You both should totally check out mikuchis Dangerous. It's so Good
Brittpowelpixel recently released a Dangerous animatic

If this is meant to be the plough (big dipper for Americans) it’s not placed correctly- the two stars that make up the far end of the rectangular bit are used to find Polaris as they point to it, but it’s a way off. Tbf, the North Star potentially wouldn’t have been Polaris back then due to precession but it wouldn’t be at that end of the plough either.
✨DAWLING✨
