  • “Adelphi was my Ellis Island," noted entrepreneur and humanitarian Hamdi Ulukaya, CEO of Chobani, in his stirring keynote speech at Adelphi University's 127th Commencement ceremony on May 23. He was awarded an honorary doctoral degree.
In this speech, Ulukaya relates how he was raised in a dairy-farming family in a small village in eastern Turkey. In 1994, he moved to the United States, a political refugee, studying English at Adelphi. After founding a small feta cheese distribution company in upstate New York, he founded Chobani in 2005 and has grown it to a business with more than 2,000 employees. It's now a billion-dollar company and the number-one selling yogurt brand in the United States. With a commitment to fighting food insecurity, Chobani has become a model for corporate responsibility.
Prior to the ceremony, Christopher Storm, PhD, provost and executive vice president, said, “I hope our community shares my pride in honoring such an accomplished individual at this year's Commencement, especially one who epitomizes the mission we work toward every day at Adelphi-transforming lives by increasing access to opportunity and through positivity and compassion."

What a hopeful speech, I am proud to be a child of the same nation as you. And I get inspiration from every speech of yours, Mr. Hamdi Ulukaya.
