I love using the egg holders as drawer organizers. Paper clips, earrings, push pins, etc.

    P. Allen - my heart is warmed that you found and purchased the painting!! He looks like Duke Frederick William of Brunswick (“The Black Duke”) 1771-1815. In German, he is called Friedrich Wilhelm von Braunschweig and he led the Black Brunswickers army into battle. I believe him to be my 4xGreat-Grandfather. I immediately stopped the video at the intro when I saw his face. Just wow! He was killed at the Battle of Quatre Bras.

Always be careful with old oil paintings showing "craquelure," this may indicate some failure in the paint layers. It may need work done by a professional art conservator.

Marion, KY is a bustling town with quaint shops that sell many beautiful handmade items, antique malls, delightful restaurants and coffee shops. The friendly people are always willing to visit and extend the Southern hospitality for which they are famous.

I’m from Charleston and never saw one of those jugs in my antiquing. I have this English Washstand I found years ago for only $40. Has a Marble Top . My husband just polished the iron scroll and it was ready for use. ❤️ Antiquing

My husband and I bought an antique steamer trunk completely covered in embossed metal. We were told it was tin and we fell in love with it. When we got it home, I really felt that the metal was something other then tin, so I took a magnet ( tin is not magnetic) and it was magnetic, so it turns out it is covered in nickel. It even has the wood separation box, it is only missing the wall paper inside, so we are researching that now. It is a beautiful piece of history that has a special place in my living room

I like shops like that but I love auctions.
Favorite thing I bought at auction: Sterling silver Tiffany tea spoons and Danish coffee spoons.
Fav shop purchase, when I go on vacation I go to shops instead of getting tee shirts, I have a pair of Arapaho 1890 moccasins.

I started my collections from keepsakes from my Grandparents. Antique cream and sugar sets, Hobnail esp. and cup and saucer sets. I also have a couple of plate sets, one with animals, the other with butterflies-which a friend who sold antiques started me on with her garage sales-a lot of them were broken in moving-but I still have some to show. I love your shows, emails, recipes, and all you do. Wish I was more North-I am in central Florida. I miss CO. most and also VA.

Well I found a dining room set that I just loved. I didn't know how old it was . I tried to talk him down but he wouldn't budge so I paid 500.00. Funny thing is I was watching Madmen which I am a big fan of and I saw my dining room set on the show. Makes me love it even more.

But that's the thing-they are his taste, maybe we would say that about something of yours-or maybe you don't venture on the wild side and decorate-our houses are supposed to contain the things we like and make us feel good-I hope you have something you enjoy:)

The painting looks more like a Goya than a Rembrandt.
