- In this video we unbox the second wave of Top Gun Skybusters planes that includes three new planes. They are:
Number 6/16 (?): P-51 Mustang
Number 7/15: Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet Rooster
Number 8/15: F-14 Tomcat Rogue Nation

The P-51 packaging is odd as it is out of 16, while the other cards say the set has 15 planes...so only time will tell I guess!

The missing tampos are not an error, as the actual paint was that basic...the real F-14 used to portray the 'Rogue Nation' Tomcat (normally displayed at an air museum near San Diego CA, where I saw it shortly after filming) was fully repainted in overall grey with only the 'Rogue Nation' insignia and the minimal warning stencils on the forward fuselage. I picked one of these up just because I have seen and touched the real thing, and it definitely shows how bare the actual paint scheme was
An interesting Matchbox product, I will probably never see for real here in the UK, thanks for showing this carrier.
One thing I noticed about the P51 was that it was... Oddly square. If you look down the nose, you'll notice that the fuselage is oddly rectangular. The real P51 would be more of an ellipse
I noticed that too - it’s very rectangular in shape….no idea why as the other planes have more perfected, rounded shapes though. I still like it, but the Maisto Tail Winds version is a lot more accurate, but a bit more pricey.
@@64Wheels I personally have a Johnny Lightning model that's nearly perfect scale, except it isn't Top Gun themed, it's D-Day patterned. It's around $15 at Hobby Lobby
Btw rooster is a pilot from top gun in the movie.
You know the Iranians still use the F-14, I wonder if that's why we see one in the trailer or it's some sort'a dream/flashback.

I was under the impression that the landing gear would fold up. Kunda sad the wings don't fold out on the tomcat. I never got into these. But good review of this product!
The static wheels are one of the biggest downsides of this line, but I understand why at the $3-$4 price point. The less accurate F-14 looking jet in the 5-packs have foldable wings, but they are pretty small compared to the Skybusters releases. I have a buddy that works at a military toy store and even some smaller detailed scale jets can be upwards of $100, so I don’t mind these ha. Thanks for watching!

I want to get the enemy strike jet because I love the su 57 are they easy to find in stores?
No they aren’t easy to find as of now - most have already cycled through stores but we may see another round once the movie releases
There's a black variant of the Enemy Strike Jet, which can occasionally be found in JHC store (also known as Japanhome) in Hong Kong, but even that one is very rare.
The P51 from matchbox has an earlier addition with plastic wings and proper landinggear.
I wish they had adjustable landing gear so that you could have wheels-up and parked versions in one jet.
I love that F/A 18 Super Hornet because l can't buy the MAISTO F/A 18 Super Hornet(l think it's OUT OF PRODUCTION).
I have 8 of them 2 of them say of 15 the other 6 are out of 13. My F14 Tomcat just says F14Tomcat on it. Thanks for the unboxing.
It’s interesting the variations in the numbers on the card art - it will also be interesting to see what comes out next toy wise as the movie isn’t schedule to debut til a little later in 2021.

Just found this video when looking for info on the P-51 as I am intrigued by it, do you still have it in your possession and could tell me the measurement of the wingspan?
I do still have the plane but I don’t have it at my current location - I believe it was around 4.5 inches but I’ll see if I can track it down and measure it officially ha.

Rooster was one of the characters in the movie Top Gun they I've gotten the app 14 times gotten that you have there is right 1 of the bad guys but Tom Cruise flu and F14 marked up just like that out of the egg territory and the peep 51 was flone at the end of the movie
That P-51 is really disappointing, the general outline's ok but the fuselage is not the boxy version shown in the toy. At least I'll save money now!
It definitely has an odd boxy shape to it, but it is also only $3, so I’m sure they took some liberties with the casting for the sake of affordable manufacturing.

I filmed this video almost two years ago so the movie wasn’t out then, so I wasn’t sure who or what the Rooster was referring to at that time ha.
Not a chance of getting any of these in uk ! Collectors snapped them all and charging extortionate prices!

Amazon or eBay would probably have it - they came and went from stores rather quickly!
the P-51 is actualy not a new skybusters plane it actualy came out i think 2015 or 2016 i dont know but i think that P-51 was blue
The one from the Top Gun line is a new or different P51 Mustang casting from Matchbox’s earlier versions from what I can tell. The Wiki shows it being the first release of the new casting: matchbox.fandom.com/wiki/North_American_P-51_Mustang_(SB-153)

The ones you have are the latest releases actually! The ones featured in this video are the original non-damaged releases from 2020/2021. If you check my page I have a Top Gun playlist and I have an unboxing of the battle damaged ones you have as well 😎
@@64Wheels oh I didn't know. I've been trying to collect all versions. I was originally looking for a video on the carrier and clicked this one but I forgot all about it as I became intrigued by the variations in the aircrafts
I have a video on the carrier too - I’ve got a video on every Too Gun Matchbox plane they’ve done so far, minus the rerelease of the Darkstar and the FA/18 that is just now hitting shelves, ha. The earlier ones are harder to find, like the yellow and black variations of the FA/18 too. I actually think the new versions with the battle damage/wear on them look pretty good!

Unfortunately no - the doors on the bottom are open so it won’t float whatsoever. You could probably mod it to float somehow though.

Does anyone know the scale of the p51?
I believe most Skybusters are in the 1/400 scale range, but since the P51 is a little larger, is probably guess 1/300 or even 1/200ish.
Rooster saved maverick from the "Russian" su-57 which was about to kill him so he was a cool guy

It's a shame all of them look like toys for children and don't resemble rela planes. I was planning to buy some of them, but having the Maisto Tailwings collection, these ones look like cheap toys. What a shame.
The Skybusters really aren’t bad, especially for the price. I don’t know why you say they don’t look like real planes when they definitely do, they just aren’t all metal. The FA/18 and F/14 are sculpted well and are pretty nice planes. You also do have to remember that these are actual “toys” and not collector level pieces, so you can’t expect too much for their $2.99 price point. I do like Tailwinds though and have a few dozen of them - I really like their Blue Angels releases!
@@64Wheels Thanks for the info. The problem is that they are too expensive in my country (around 18 usd) a d Tailwings can be found just 4.5 usd. Anyway, Ibelieve Tailwingsare more detailed.
😯 $18 USD!? That is a crazy price for Skybusters - I would definitely not pay $18 for one lol. The Tailwinds are a much better buy - especially for that price ha!
