  • Get ready for an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the construction of the extension of O-Train Lines 1/3 in Ottawa! Scheduled to open in 2026, the western extension, stretching to Algonquin and Moodie, will introduce a new chapter in Ottawa's public transit system, all centred around one of its more critical transfer hubs: Lincoln Fields.
    In this video, Rail Fans Canada got an exclusive opportunity to explore the future of transit at Lincoln Fields. The extension of O-Train Lines 1/3 promises to redefine the city's transportation landscape, with the western extension adding 15 kilometres of rail and 11 new stations. Additionally, we are honoured to have Mary-Ellen Gleeson, the Program Manager of the Rail Construction Program at the City of Ottawa, sharing her expertise and insights. Together, we'll better understand the construction process and the exciting amenities awaiting passengers on the expanded O-Train Lines 1/3.
    One of the extension's standout features includes two new cut-and-cover tunnels and an elevated flyover located south of Lincoln Fields where trains headed to Algonquin will split from those headed to Moodie. Those major projects will allow for frequent service between branches, bringing the O-Train network closer to more people than ever.

    Such an exciting time. This rail project will pay dividends for future generations, when the growing pains will be long forgotten

    My God. I hope this will be completed ASAP especially I am working west of Ottawa and living near downtown. It is so stressful as a commuter having unrealible public transit here in Ottawa

    I hope to see more Station Sneak Peaks very shortly. I live and work along Line 1 and it's West Extension will be a game changer for going to work and home. One train instead of an annoying transfer at Tunneys.

      Opportunities like this require a lot of coordination with the city, as such we cannot confirm what future opportunities there will be. However, we are doing our best to have more exclusives like this in the future!

      Watch the video. You will need to transfer at Lincoln Fileds.

      No transfer needed at Lincoln Fields. Trains will run all the way along the line from the east end. It's just that some trains will go to Baseline and some will go to Moodie. So no transfer, just need to make sure you get on the right train if heading west.

      @tristren important to note that some time periods like late night or weekends will involve a transfer at LF since Moodie will only run as a shuttle to LF.

    Solid video! Love that you can get into the stations to get sneak peaks and interview the people involved with building it. I have to ask you though, even with more lines and stations, how will they improve the reliability of the train?? The line we have now is always breaking and seems like they haven't had a long streak of reliable service.

      The line is currently 12km long. Once the east and west open it will be significantly longer. The rest has a lot more straight and light curves to it. This fact is key as the trains themselves will pass through the tougher segments less frequently and be subjected to less wear as a result. Long story short, it is widely expected that reliability will dramatically increase as a result. In addition, by the time the extensions open, we should have more permanent fixes and solutions in place for the existing issues.

      @@RailFansCanada yeah solid video! Lots of great questions! I think when this is complete it will help out huge since the end of the line as of right now isn’t designed to be a huge collector for all the buses coming from the outskirts.. all these buses will now be spread out. I think lessons have been learned and with crossed fingers I hope it runs smooth. Good job

    Do we know yet what the operational arrangement will be for the three tracks?

    • @captainaaron96
      @captainaaron96 9 місяців тому

      If I recall correctly, the easterly of the 2 platforms (the centre platform) will be for all trains going to and from Trim, so the middle track serving the centre platform will be trains going from Trim to Algonquin, and the easterly track serving the centre station will be trains going from Algonquin to Trim. The westerly platform (the single platform) will be for trains going to/from Moodie and Lincoln Fields. Trains to/from Moodie will only go beyond Lincoln Fields in peak periods.

      Based on what was said in the video, she said Lincoln is a transfer station both the train from Moodie and the train from Algonquin.

    It'll keep having problems, trust me. Ottawa is cursed. Everything they do either dosen't make sense or work. Worst transit system in Canada...
