I appreciate your line of work. It’s good to see guys our age out there making a living. I work heavy equipment repair and charge about 160 to 180 an hour depending on the customer I have thought about starting a UA-cam channel and just documenting the progress I’ve been in business about 2 1/2 years. Things are going good and I’ve learned a lot. I just wonder if other people could benefit from what I’ve learned
@youngrevival9715 I’m trying to get into equipment! I’d watch that for sure. My uncle owns a rental fleet of aerial equipment and Iv worked for him for 1.5 years but want to find and independent to work for that’s just repair… right now I fix, deliver, marketing and sales, and every other little thing. I’d rather just learn more on the repair
Keep your book !!! I use to have my Oklahoma Boiler Pressure card for years and let it expire about 12 years ago and years later I wanted to get back into welding and built a new rig and wished a 1000x I had kept that cert. Now I would have to drive to a testing center and re-certify again just to obtain it. Back in the day the cert cost me $35 a year to have it. Pennies on the dollar.
Being out of 798, you can always come work building trades. I've worked with several across the country that have decided to do that, when pipelining is slow.
The idea behind post heat treat when it comes to hydrogen induced cracking is to get all of the moisture content out of the material so that it doesn't cause hydrogen cracking
That downhill lowhy I like to run it on max and 100 on high idle. It’s buckshot so hard you can’t even use a file to knock them off. Gotta use a sanding pad
I have been really slow also. Middle of last year I had over 200k in labor jobs cancel. I got a call from a company to run their on site shop in Nebraska for a few months. I'm hoping that I get some jobs on schedule for when I'm done here. I hope all goes well for you. I'm thinking things will pick up in a few months.
So other than the union page where else would you go to find job listings for these pipeline jobs? I use roaddogs and roadtech to find regular pipe welding gigs but never see anything about pipeline. What are your thoughts?
I been trying to take advantage of the cheap equipment coming up for sale hopefully side work starts popping soon now that holidays are over with, it's always nice having other side work like fixing cars and landscaping or snow removal. Anyone find themselves doing all sorts of different jobs or is it better to focus on one thing? I'm young (30)and dumb work normal Monday Friday and do side stuff afterwork we don't get OT
I have one. Only issue I’ve had is with 10% ethanol, it absorbs a little water and mine would only run on high idle. Now I only use ethanol free fuel and haven’t had another issue (carbureted model). If you do get one I recommend ordering a vented fuel cap and using it during the summer and the non vented cap during and colder weather
Also I would get the 330 not the 260, my boss has a 260 and it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as mine does. Mine has a downhill mode and arc force adjustment plus hot start, all of which his machine doesn’t have
Lots of people having trouble with the Boards on The 330/260 and they are expensive 3500. I would honestly look for a good used lincoln 305 G with under 2000 hrs. They are a really Good machine and are proven! Some people have had board issues with them but way less common.
Just NEVER, EVER jump one. New charged battery only. That was an expensive mistake. $3200 bucks. Great arc, runs excellent stick and dual shield. I bought a new Maverick this year but I'd buy another 330 again.
You work for yourself. Does the union consider it to be union, or non union, or do they ignore it. If I hired you, would I say I am having union or non-union work done? If you got a big job and needed a couple of guys to help you, would they be union or non union?
I don’t do pipeline work for myself, therefor they are not concerned. I’m considered non union as far as the little bit of work I do for myself. It depends on what you would be hiring me for? What kind of work do you do?
Low/high downhand rod 9045dh correct……. I’m Running a miller pipe pro 350 with it runs great….. little learning curve with the rod manipulation I keep the technique of uphand in my head when welding with it but run it down…. Tight arc side to side weave not to wide though, don’t have to move all that fast once you get the hang of it……. Don’t need a lot of heat on the bottom either…Coming down the sides can’t stuff a lot of metal in ….Been running it for 3-4 years now …… mainly on Enbridge work in metering and compressor stations……. Not bad rod really…… it’s all about the heat input …… especially on your higher grade (X70) pipe …… with Celosis rods you can stuff some metal which give you a lot of heat input and a bigger HAV…… these downhand low/high rods you can’t do that……. And yes they’re trying to minimize Cracking
Hopefully president donald j trump get back in office. He will open the oil pie from canada and all you time pip line wilders get some decent work back

Hey Ross what do you think about the LE 330mpx? Is it worth buying?
I haven’t heard anything bad about it. I would try one.

I don’t consider anyone a scab. I see us all as equal. But, ya I totally understand starting busy. It’s a big deal.
Who sells their portable rigs? That's what keeps you alive! Don't do it IMHO...
Seems like the economy is gonna tank again. 🤦🏻♂️
