Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2024
- We're listing our top 5 Grand Touring cars ever with our favorite British transplant, music expert Christian James Hand. Also, he and Matt got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sphere in Las Vegas AND saw the U2 show. A verbal description doesn't do the show justice but it will make you want to attend.
Plus Q&A includes:
How the 911 name is similar and different from AMG and M
The closest experience to a $90K Boxster T
Which F-Type is perfect for a new graduate
Will there be barn finds in the future?
And more

Ok so how many of us were anti-sphere until we heard this show?
Having a background in audio production and engineering and 10 years of live sound and lighting production, this sounds like the most amazing experience to have. I don’t like U2 at all but I understand the choice.
It would be interesting to see Tool at The Sphere.
I wasn't anti, but now it's a must-do if I ever visit Las Vegas again. It sounds all the right kinds of insane.
Top tier guest!
Not me. From the description of the venue, it promised to be epic. U2 seemed realize its potential. Now it's up to follow-on acts to follow and build on that foundation.
Skipped the first hour my bad
pls put the guests name back in the titles
like ik yall r trying out the topic thingy, and ill always watch, but ngl it helps for when imma watch it this week ranking wise lol
If you put all the vowels back into the words you type they’ll put the guest’s name back in the title.
I hate so much that I was able to read this without any problem
@l4522 sorry im studying my brains out and didn't care to make words, good thing im a stem major then
@@thedarkenergist brain no worky sorry, i come here to let my brain recharge
The Top 5 feels forced
Christian James Hand. Always a great listen. Music genius
Zach put a manual 550 Maranello on his list. ALL 550s were manual; the F1 transmission became available in the 575. They were great touring cars; I owned two of them.
1:31:55 That was gold Zach
1024 gigs per terabyte. 1024 terabytes per petabyte.
So 1.7 million (ish) gigabytes projected during the U2 show.
1.Bentley Conti SC
2.Lambo Espada
3.Citroen SM
4.Jaguar XKR(X100)
5.Ferrari 456 gt
How about an XKE Jaguar reimagined by Eagle Cars in the UK….
@@kiwi335d not a GT car for me to be honest
Good list
Zach: 635csi makes for a fantastic road tripper/GT from personal experience. I will say the m635 (euro m6) is a bit too rowdy for long trips. Also, the euro and later US 88/89 635csi's crack 210-218hp, but even the 182 is plenty.
Yeah as a Brit myself Matt caught me out with the 182hp thing- didn’t realise there’d be such a difference. My friend’s father had a new M535i around the same period and that 220 PS felt like a mountainous unit at the time! I do remember 6 Series being incredibly expensive in contemporary money terms though…
@@neilturner6749Oh that sounds like an e28 M trim package. Those are pretty cool cars, and fairly practical too. Similar glass house to an e30.
Yeah the US spec cars back then were choked to hell by emissions, which is partly why the euros are more sought after here (another part is because of the hideous diving board bumpers that stick out an extra 12 inches or so from the car). Also, yeah the e24 m6s are starting to get back up there now, I hear over in europe they're easily averaging in the 60-70k euro range whereas you can still get em in the states for about 40-50k usd. I'm guessing it has something to do with how much goes into keeping them on the road and rust free, especially in the UK?
Apologies to Christian - as a fellow Brit I didn’t know who/what he was, in fact with his hybrid English/African Colonial/American accent I couldn’t initially work out where he was from! Anyway, seems like a cool, entertaining guy with a relaxing vibe and I really enjoyed the show even though he’s not a car nerd.
Got to add the lovely Lexus LC500 to that Top GT car list. Can't seem to shake mine after 4 years. 2600-mile road trips to Monterey/Car Week every year, these cars are gold, solid gold. Nearly 500 hp, comfort for days, and who can be mad at 30-33 mpg's during some epic grand touring? Crazy amount of car for the money. 👍
CJH is always a great guest. Engaging, informative, and extremely entertaining with a great interaction between the three of you.
Zach needs his own show.
All you do is add caster to improve steering centering at speed. Any normal place can do it assuming caster is adjustable on that model.
Hell with the show. I want see the logistics :-)
Went to Backstreet Boys with wife and I only agreed to go only if we could stay after to see the logistics behind the scenes. 😂
BTW: I should have brought ear plugs. Music is what it is, but the ladies behind us. I’m surprised I still have hearing
MY TOP 5 GT CARS (that I can realistically own)
1). HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE (the ride is fantastic, handles like an Accord, has tons of room, and tons of cup holders)
2). Chevrolet Suburban RST with the 6.2 V8(Tons of room, great v8 note, and handles ok for a body on frame suv)
3). VW ARTEON SEL PREMIUM (Potent Golf R motor and very roomy and comfy sedan)
4). HONDA ACCORD SEDAN TOURING with the V6 motor I believe 2008-2017 generation. (Decently quick and comfortable suspension with decent handling and pretty roomy)
5). Mazda CX-90 TURBO S PREMIUM PLUS (again decently quick, smooth Japanese inline 6 turbo, looks hot for a 3-row crossover and has a very nice interior)
Honorable mention: 2024 Honda Pilot Elite with its new 3.5 double overhead cam v6 engine and that spectacularly quick and light steering feel. The new Pilot is very agile for its size and soaks up the bumps on the road surprisingly well.
For me, A GT car is any car that I deem perfect for a road trip and gives me a little bit of joy while driving. Again My list is containing vehicles that I personally can afford or aspire to afford without selling a kidney.
The car show starts at 58 minutes
Matt, have you ever thought about upgrading the brakes on you Kevlar bonneted and engine covered 1988 Quattrovalve Countach? Maybe to something from BAER🤘🤘. And when do we get to see the next restoration video?
I would pay any amount of money to see Tool do the sphere
Damn ya that'd be amazing.
That's what I'm talkin' about!
The content is great, but Matt was right. The 2013-2015 Audi RS5 only had a dual clutch automatic transmission and no manual option. Some people have done manual conversions, though.
1. Vantage v12s
2. Gtc4 lusso
3. SL65 black series
4. LC500
5. e92 m3 comp
any spicey wagon honorable mention
Gonna say you’ve gone mostly sports cars or hardcore, not really grand tourers. GTC4 great choice though, hoping prices soften as on my bucket list!
I see CJH, I click! Love you guys
The first hour ..... Best story of this year ! never bin a U2 fan ...but did appreciate elvis and "my way" Fanky in the Sphere show
YESSSSS!!! Missed Christian so much!
Admit I had to google who he was, and where he was from cos he’s such an unusual accent that I couldn’t pin it down. Turns out he’s actually English although he doesn’t really sound like it to me as a fellow Brit, but he was brought up in Southern Africa so he has a bit of a Uk/colonial/American trans-south-Atlantic blend.
I'm a huge GT car fan, so narrowing it down to 5 is difficult. But here's 5 of my favourites:
-Citroën SM
-Lexus LC500
-Aston Martin DB9
-Lamborghini Espada Series I
-Alfa Romeo Montreal
awesome episode!
Pink Floyd HAS GOT TO play there. Has to!
Holy f#ck this was a good one(expected as much). NIN would be my jam at the sphere.
Agreed
NIN would be a hell of a show. I would love to see my Rolling Stones there.
Christian James Hand, long overdue.
The best grand touring car ever is any car that runs if you’re 16
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante Series II 86-86, BMW 635 csi, BMW 90-99 850 csi, 2010-2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage, 2020-2021 Rolls Royce Wraith
1. Ferrari 612 Scag
2. Jaguar XKR
3. Porsche 911 Targa 4S
4. Saab 9000 2.3 Talladega
5. Alfa Romeo 8C
If anyone can actually find a b8 rs5 4.2 with a manual let me know because I've never found proof it exists. Audi didn't make one and the S5 setup isn't a direct swap. I'd love to get one. Almost as much I as now want to see U2 at the sphere (why wasn't this talked about by anyone back when there was a chance of getting tickets)
Yeah I think Zack was just mistaken about that. And double-yeah I’d have been on a plane to Vegas weeks ago if I’d known more about this Sphere being “not just another venue”! It didn’t get any worldwide publicity unlike the pioneering ABBA thing that’s been crazy popular…
@neilturner6749 in the last 2 weeks suddenly all my friends started going and posting. Then my wife was like we really need to go. But then there were 3 shows remaining and had to decide if spending $5k+ to fly across country was worth it assuming we could find someone to watch the kids. But damn it sure sounded like it was.
I came to hear what the top 5 GTs were and ended up at a U2 concert recap.... lol.
Top of my list would be Polestar 1, most beautiful car in the last 20 years.
Bentley Azure is nice too
Good choices. I would probably add a 928 that wasn’t a basket case to the list. I think that is more GT car than 911 but the new basic 911s are total GT cars.
Listening to this episode is a treat. I wonder how Danny Elfman would do in the Sphere. I saw him at the Chula Vista Amphitheater in San Diego and he used every ounce of those screens he had.
Fan fact, there was a Rolls Royce silver spur that was the same car than Bentley Turbo R.
RS5 was DSG only.
Came here to say this… the V8 never had a manual and the version with the V6 that replaced it came after they stopped putting manuals in anything other than the R8.
Also the Boxster was Python Green which like Shark Blue is just an optional upcharge color and not PTS
Still $1800 they should not have spent
No mention of Phish already being 2nd band scheduled for The Sphere in April?!
I feel like the Turbo R wheels let the car down. Will wheels from a newer model swap on?
Dude. You guys forgot the most amazing band on the planet to play there. Pink Floyd can do it!
Is Christian wearing the OG Paul Walker watch?
Who is the guy that Matt is talking to?
Anyone else think the red on that old Aston makes it look like a Mustang 2?
Definitely - ZK
1:31:55 Watched it a half dozen times. Still no idea who does the voice 😂
It's Zack doing Kermit the frog.
Bragged about this guy, consumed everything of his I could get me hands on, shared his content to countless people. Then he started silencing people for their 'vid beliefs. He's dead to me.
Lexus LC 500
Does anyone understand why Zac was not allowed to go?
Moving house?
They literally said he was invited but didn't go due to moving house?
@@phattiger1506Correct.
You guys missed the best looking Alpina ever: The E31 Alpina B12 Coupe. Sleek, muscular and pop up headlights b!tches!
Too much close up Zac
Are you guys almost done with this "top 5" stuff lol
you can't be cool and like U2....
Beyoncey has NO like ZERO talent. 😂
If she has “no zero” talent, does that mean in English that she’s actually very talented?? No offence bud, just made me laugh 😃
How is a drop top a gt. Rs5 a gt? . This guy has no idea what a GT is. Audi has no GT. German gts are bmw 8 series and 6 series or S class coupe.
How many years before they tear down the Sphere and build a bigger one
I mean it's Vegas
