I Drove Around California For A Month. It Was A Disaster.

- California has changed and NOT in a good way! Wow!
I sent a month driving around California on a road trip. I saw devastating homelessness, amazing ocean views and interesting desert communities. California has a lot to love, but this place sure has changed a lot.
It's been said that as California goes, so goes the rest of the nation. Well, that might be troubling if we all follow California's lead.
Here's an unedited view of my month-long road trip through California.

I live in Romania, and I never encounter such poverty in my life. It looks like a third country. And, when you think that the main problem of the politicians in the U.S. is the suffering of men trapped inside a woman's body or a woman in a man's body and not these unfortunate people that live in the street... it's crazy!
Yes, it's crazy
Yes but orange man was a bad man. He gone so things better now.
@@buljo5150 Found the tard. Do you think california wasn't already like this when he was in office? HAhahaa
the homeless/beggers in the US are way more well dressed than their fellows down here in latin america
I agree. The politicians have deflected the real problems in this country such as homelessness, a broken education system, allowing corporations to pollute the environment, and a medical system that can deny a necessary surgery to save a life. We are moving to Northern Maine close to Canada.
About 30 years ago I lived in Ukraine and Russia (extreme North) and in my wildest dreams I would never thought that America looks like this. Later on I moved to Canada and became a truck driver. I covered hundreds of thousands of miles across United States and Canada for 22 years and I witnessed all this myself. Sometimes we live in imaginary world based on stereotypes and myths and it can be destroyed within minutes or hours once you look at it from inside.
attitude,, im all right jack, fk you.. this is it,,dog eat dog,,exactly what they want.. i tried coming to the u.s. 10 yrs ago, had land spotted to buy,, sorry,,your british,,we dont give green cards to british people..

I travel regularly it's everywhere. You can see it in California because there's forty million people. Almost 1/5 of the US population. But this exists all over America. Haters can deny it's everywhere, but they're seriously lying.
Texas, West Virginia, idaho, everywhere. The bigger the state. The bigger the problem. Covid just made inequality more visible. Get over it. Or, vote blue down the line to stop Republicans from creating this mess with their greed and corruption. Democrats hold some responsibility and complacency. BIDEN 2024 !!!!
California is slowly becoming one of those Mad Max movies.

That’s what I thought!!! Or waterworld
Looks like it’s already there.
I’m 74 yrs.old. My best and happiest time of my life was growing up in Southern California. I can’t believe what has happened to that place. We are truly one step away from a 3rd world country!
It is a third world country .that’s why I left
We are there...
I’ve been to third world countries, most of them aren’t this bad.
Moi aussi, 72 in May and we sold our LA compound in El Monte when dad passed six years ago, just before covid. I can't BELIEVE it. But if you reach back to seven decades, every ten years SOMETHING happened that put California and the USA on the road to this. I'm in Canada now, in a beautiful area. Even in 3rd. world countries you can see people taking to time to clean up and keep clean where they live, even if it's an alley or street. And then you have those whose "culture" ignore that.
The reason why is because of this horrible distribution of wealth. Why are we allowing this. We vote for people who are only concerned with themselves. When you don't want to help people who can't/won't help themselves this is the result.
In the 50s and early 60s, California was paradise. The roads were open wide and as you drove around you could smell the orange blossoms, magnolias and honeysuckle. Everyone was laid back and happy. I miss that California and those days.
Then vote Democrats not republican !

While billion wasted for wars which got nothing to do with Americans.
This is what happens when you let moneyhungry politicians ruin your country and tell you at the same time, that you are living in the greatest country on earth. Im from europe, but even in the poorest parts of our towns, you wont see this many homeless and /or drug-addicted people. Dont let them lie to you. They dont do anything for you, they just fill their own pockets, and you, the people, pay the price. Stay strong americans! We are one family.
Blame the politicians, not the scumbag drug addicts. There ya go, got anymore lame excuses ?
They bombed your close neighbor with dirty nukes, they destroyed gas pipe that Germany, your main (and only) economy, relied upon, they brought war to your borders and f.ed you over many times including but not limited to racketeering you for NATO fees and giving you nothing of advertised. How is it possible that you still consider them your family?
Well, Europe never got heavily l*berals in their countries to ruin it.

This is sad to see. Some points come to mind.
I am from Mumbai, India. We have the largest slum in Asia, but within that are ppl with all amenities, incldg fridge, ACs, computers etc but no 'proper housing'. Some places have community toilets, etc, but in this video, I see nothing of the kind.
I see 2 issues:
1. Hiding a reality doesn't work. If it's public, people will help (like we do in India, we keep talking about it, and government listens).
2. Imagine this! In 20 years, the US government wasted $2 trillion in Afghan war only to replace Taliban with Taliban
If half that money was spent here, it'd have kept lives liveable
But... the Miltary Establishment has more 'urgent' issues.
Sad!
You make an excellent couple of points.
US military spending on futile wars is quite probably the biggest crime against humanity ever perpetrated by anyone, anywhere.
well said;
ignoring the problem like the US Mr JOe Biden does, does ot make it go away; but maybe He shd go away...
where is gawd,by the way; he is away too??!!
Its wierd how the west lapped up slumdog millionaire, when they have one in thier backyard
There is an important difference: Western societies (and US in particular) are much more individualistic, which makes them less resilient to change and collapse. While there is a much larger sense of community and intergenerational solidarity in societies with lower levels of individualism.
@@gedofgont1006 They're not futile. It's a business model which only profits to a few, at the expense of many others. But yes, it is a crime against humanity as a whole, but also to the US population. Investing in health, education, food quality, better farming practices, would make the country much richer in a sense, and i think much happier.
I couldn’t be happier that I moved out of this state 10 years ago. I feel like I avoided a car crash.
I recently left. I couldn’t avoid the car crash, sustained some serious injuries, but now I’m recovering and am in a better place. Wish I’d left sooner.

Lol. I left in 2012. So happy I did. I grew up there during what I feel was its true golden era/peak. I left the state right as it began its descent downward. I'll never forgive the demonrats for what they did to this beautiful state. I cant imagine myself ever going back either. The state has lost its lustre, and seeing footage of California now, just feels like stepping back in time.

The most depressing thing about this is that ungodly amounts of taxpayer money have been spent trying to address these issues and there is absolutely nothing to show for it (other than a whole bunch of politicians and "community leaders" lining their pockets).
Are you serious? I thought there is no corruption in America.

Yes stay away from big cities like SF. You can park your rental car and within minutes it will be broken into and don’t waste your time calling law enforcement as they will protect the criminal
I am a long time California resident. I can tell you that all that you see here is the reality of our state now. It’s shocking. The homeless epidemic is unbelievable. Nobody can afford housing and most industries packed up and left due to taxes and labor costs. There is not much gray area between poverty and elitism. I am middle class, and make a decent living, but had I not bought a house 10 years ago I couldn’t afford in today’s economy. Also, many wealthier people own multiple homes and they only rent them out as VRBO for crazy amounts of money. A working class person cannot afford rent. Small towns are in dire condition as well. Companies such as Amazon destroyed small companies. They cannot compete so they are boarding up. It’s a nightmare scenario.

@@billy-il8tdyou can keep voting whatever you want, the two party system is truly f-ed.
There is no way out if it because both parties are corrupt and LOVE the money they get from big corporations. Neither of them care to better the living conditions of the poor… because taking advantage of people and their work load is what got them their wealth!
The only thing that could fix it would be a TRUE government and system change.
The US suffers from capitalism in the terminal stage.
THIS is where no public healthcare, good public education and no unions in big companies lead you to…
Workers rights in the US are the equivalent to those of the 1850 basically everywhere else?
The American dream is for the rich to get and stay rich and for everyone else? Well the rest gets poorer by the minute.
And what are all citizens fed? The lie that if you just work hard enough you will be at the top one day… but that is not how it works.
No one working 3 jobs will ever get there because those jobs? 95% if what you generate goes straight into your bosses pocket, if you’re lucky you get 2% of that as your salary and that’s without tax deductions.
Those jobs were not made to get you wealthy or even provide a good life, they were meant to generate more wealth for the higher ups…
But somehow the US managed to tell her citizens that lie and profited off of it! Not only do people work hard and harder because they want to "make" it, generating a lot of wealth.
NO! They are also against everything that might sound even a little bit "communist" like paying for a good general education everyone can benefit from or public healthcare that actually is worth its money! No, they are also against unions!
THE tool against big companies taking advantage of you, the tool to fight for worker rights… because people don’t want to restrict the power of the 1% in fear that once they "made it" they would also be restricted!
It’s truly f-ed up!
Americans going against their own people, against themselves, suffering greatly from it, WILLINGLY, because they still dream about being super rich and they don’t want them to lose their privileges in fear they would also not have them when they get there…
The truth is, they will never get there and instead of being realistic about it they rather relax, lay back while being fed bullshit and actively sabotage any attempt to make life better for the middle and lower classes…

Thanks, Nick. This is a remarkable video. I lived and worked in California from the 1960s through the 1980s. When I first arrived I thought it was a beautiful, exciting place to live. It breaks my heart to see it now.
Oooo, who did all that horrible stuff??? Why paradise has transformed in the hell? Someone knows?
This happens when allow world economy to trade lol. Back in 60s we had our own lol. We did it all lol. This is just history paying the country back . Both parties did it to US lol it's trash now
I work there in Hollywood in the 60s and it was beautiful.
My first child was born in Ventura California .
Thank you Nancy you do such a good job with your district you do truly care for your constituents!

Native of southern California, San Diego to be exact and the homeless problem is so sad and out of control. Getting worse by the day.😢
The politicians in California should be called to account for this , this is absolutely unacceptable .
So?
Who's gonna do it?
Yes you're right. It all got worse when RONALD REGAN ended funding for mental health institutions. Those folks were just put out onto the streets and this is part of the downstream effect of that

I live in a second world country and we don’t have a fraction of the homeless that America has. I’ve never seen a homeless encampment in my city (one of the largest cities in Asia). Something is terribly wrong with The US.
Where do you live? Which city? If it’s no a secret )
Keep in mind all these bad areas are people that are addicted to alcohol or serious drugs mostly it's a drug problem part of its just homeless people but not the biggest part
America has removed God and when the Word of God is removed, insanity rules.
We are too busy sending money to Ukraine and Israel and filling the bellies and egos of politicians and their special interests. We can’t afford to take care of our homeless.
Yea. It's called "free market capitalism" Rich people think it's great.
My father was a navy WW2 vet. This is not the country he fought to save . So sad .
And yet, remember that even prior to WW2, such things as the Great Depression were happening, and slavery, and so much more. America has never been, nor will it ever be, a paradise everywhere for all people at all times. There are always challenges. And suffering is always a part of things. Also, this video involves a lot of cherry-picking to show some of the worst spots. I am an American from a poor region in Colorado and recently moved to Slovakia to be with my wife, who is Slovak. I miss the US! I see its value more now than I did while it was all I knew, especially in the basic core value of freedom. People don't realize how good it is in so many ways, even now, even where it isn't so glamorous. The American approach to life is still worth fighting for.
@@JamesO512 US is a paradise for everyone rich, living in their tall&expensive flats and apartments, far above the commoners. God bless you Nick for raising awareness. I am an Iranian origin migrant, US citizen and these images in metro Atlanta was shocking to me. I wrote a letter to congress about it and mentioned them take care of your own veterans and citizens before bringing anymore refugee and immigrants like myself into this country but the system always looks for cheap labors and slavery. It is very sad.
I see the same happening in Canada. There are no proper jobs for it's own people and the country wants to bring in loads and loads of immigrants and students for dirt cheap labor. Add to that the thousands of fake asylum seekers who just cross into the country from the US who are put up in star hotels everything paid for by the government.
Many if not most homeless don’t want to be taken off the street. California has spent billions on the homeless and the problem is worst. In the 1980’s the metal health hospitals across the US were closed. Those you see on the street today would have been involuntarily admitted decades ago. So the help you think these homeless need is actual forced hospitalization and that will never happen. Refugees and immigrants typically add to US society, the homeless are on the other side of that coin.
The coin of the refugee and the homeless is ever flipping.

The worst part is majority of these people on the streets don’t even want help. So many addicts are comfortable living this way, and if given a better opportunity they would take full advantage and trash whatever their given. They can’t even keep themselves clean let alone their makeshift homes, the streets, public areas. Everything is completely trashed.
