@@Crossfader Jamie, do you still have to pay almost 3$ for a .WAV file when you sign for one of these pool subscriptions? or are they cheaper since you pay for the subscription.
Yeah I would say most working DJ’s in the club scene use Beatport, Traxsource, Bandcamp and BPM Supreme. Most of the popular touring DJ/producer also sell their music on those 4 as well.
steelwiz it’s more noticeable on bigger more powerful speakers. If you just want to practice and maybe mix for a small party 128 kbps will be fine (radio quality). You will notice a huge difference from mixing a 96 kbps track to a 320 kbps. It just won’t sound good. I’m guessing you just want to mix at home so ripping songs is ok. Just know if you ever want to mix for a large crowd on powerful speakers, get 256 + kbps (320 kbps if possible)
Believe me a rip will sound bad on a smaller system to. When I first started I had some rips to. Now looking back those songs sound terrible even on just my studio monitors.
James you are blowing up like an EDM DJ in his prime! Lol. For real you deserve it. Anyone that shares knowledge like you do and helps DJs improve is a great thing.
I know this is mainly a digital djing channel but if you are planning to be a DJ like me (analog) there is a few ways I get music to DJ with. One way I get music is online, like Amazon or Ebay. Another much better way imo is in store. If you research what you want it can be good but my personal opinion and a lot of the greats would agree with me is going in blind. I walk into the store, go to the jazz section and pick two of the same records (for beat juggling) and the funk section and doing the same. The way to get good samples to scratch with or drum breaks really depends on your ear. I personally think the best way to find samples is to listen to the whole album or single multiple times all the way through, dont skip a SINGLE song. Changing the speed of the songs and listening for breaks like that work aswell, but not as well imo. Now blending two tracks together is a different can of worms to open, last time I checked I am not into worms. But it is possible. What I mean by blending tracks is beat juggling different songs, but there is a catch with that. They should sound good together though. Anyways I'm a little bit of a hipster reply if you have any questions on what I do or anything
Your talking to real DJ's while most of these guys just buy computers and software that actually do the DJing for them. Keep doing what you do, we're a dying breed these days👍🏼💪🏽
@ILIKECOWS I dont rip vinyl to computers for djing. I use a strict analog setup. Two turntables, a mixer, some milkcreats, and speakers. If you want to know what I use for analog you can ask but for ripping vinyl I kind of know about that. It would be easier for singles since they are shorter, but it depends on condition
Correction on the Ripping from YTube or whoever else you mentioned. Those converters are beneficial for “Unofficial” releases. When you can not purchase it, you will have to get a lesser quality version of it that way…
@@akebengtsson1223 depends. It's not great because they often cap at 128kbps instead of e.g. 256 or even 384 which are available when it's a clean studio version. But they can totally be used if you use supplemental tracks to cover up the low quality.
It depends on your dj system setup I been ripping music for years off UA-cam and I do at a huge club witch I connect my setup to the club speakers. And not once has anybody ever complained about the sound quality of my MP3 / MP4 rips. But then too most people on the dance floor are stoned or drunk but ne er a complaint from anybody yet.

Anyone watching this looking for Spotify.... Algoriddim dropped support and added SoundCloud and Tidal. They DO have a Mac app now tho that works with most controllers, plug and play, and beginner controllers like DDJ 400 can work on iPad and iPhone with a USB camera card connector. The cool thing about DJ Pro is there’s real time track separation into “stems” (instrumental/ vocals/ even drums can be isolated). That feature is only on iOS so far, but is nice for making DJ edits and then importing to Serato/ your laptop.
Thanks you soo much brother I have just started DJ and brought my first deck yesterday and I was soo worried about music and how I will play but thankfully I clicked on your video thanks uoh soo saved me soo much trouble
I buy my music from iTunes and have a subscription to Tidal for real-time requests. I also purchase a DJ Music license from Connect Music Canada, that gives me the right to play music in public that is copyrighted. This way I am paying into the industry that gives me music.
I am a spotify user and yet I run on a mac. I recently just purchased a DDJ400 and I am overwhelmed with the many things that one person could do in order to get music. But, what my goal is to learn how to not only tone play, but how can I down load, "piano" like notes onto my controller?
load a piano note into the sampler, then you can play it using the pads. although why not just get a cheap midi controller and play piano sounds properly on garageband or something?
I would honestly suggest ripping songs from youtube before u sign up to a pool. You will allways find what u are lookin for and you can still get the song in 320 kbps. The only downside with getting music from YT is the time and process it takes to actually download the tracks.

Hi Jamie, love your videos. I have a question though, do you think that people in a club hear the difference between a 256kbps track vs a 320kbps track? Because most of the people I asked dont really hear the difference, but I wanted to get a professional opinion on it. Thanks!
I never noticed a difference until I got to play on an amazing surround JBL set up that was outdoors ( vineyard ) All my 320 tracks had to be gained down a little. Overly loud and noticeably brighter.... sound check had been done on 256 tracks.
I run a 24 k QSC rig I admit to downloading from you tube 2 songs I couldn't get ANYWHERE these downloaded at 320 and to be honest after downloading it shock horror found it on a comp cd. So out of curiosity i put both tracks side by side thru my cdj 900s and xone 92.... ABSOLUTELY NO DROP OUT OR DIFFERENCE.... A producer friend of mine couldn't tell each track apart... not sure how people are downloading but by the sound of most ain't doing it right
I myself am a DJ and I Download from Convert2mp3 and not on mp3 format but in FLAC Format that give me about 700KBPS UP TO 1MBPS. I believe that is the best of the best.
@ZEROFUX I was using wav to for a while but for some reason iTunes wont let you modify the meta data, cant add artwork, tags and adjustments. So started copying wav to 320kb true stereo mp3. 5:57 Wrong! There is a Desktop Version of Djay for PC and Mac which offers even more features than the mobile App (and ofc Spotify integration aswell). But nice video! 😁
It does come as a dektop version for PC, but I'm afraid its crap. I used it on a mac for about 3 years, then bought the PC version. i'm still waiting for a fix or a refund from Algoriddim after multiple e-mails and have yet to receive anything other than, "i'm sorry, we dont have a fix for your issues at this time" type responses. I went over to Rekordbox, which is a really useful program. Avoid Djay until the fix it if you on anything other than a mac.
It wouldn't load any artwork. After using the program on Mac for 3 years and coming from a vinyl Background I am used to using the artwork as a visual aid to picking tunes. Algoriddim replicated my issue in their offices so it wasn't just me. I use AIFF files which I sent a sample to them... As I said, I still haven't received a refund or a fix and have now moved to pioneer Rekordbox, which I've got say is a great piece of software, and the full license is a one off payment, so no monthly or yearly subs.
I use Beatport and rip CDs. I know that the audience may not tell the difference but I care about them being wav and I want to pay for the music. I mainly am looking for top 40 and songs people know along with my personal favourites.
I also use Beatport but you should try searching for songs in Band camp before going to Beatport. They are usually 50 cents cheaper per song and if you're getting WAV vs MP3 on Beatport, then Bandcamps FLAC would take up less space on your USB. Also, many times if the artist is underground enough, they will let you download it for free on band camp. I've saved about $70 by double checking band camp for the same track I was about to buy on band camp because it turned out to be free.
If you get audacity and set record to speaker in you can record stuff of I tunes and then buy the same track off beatport as MP3 then if you run both tracks through a spectral analiser you can't tell the difference they are identical and on traktor it tells me the file is 1347kps instead of 320kps. I dont get why but I know I get alot of free music
I’m brand spanking new to digital mixing. I used to be a DJ back in the last millennia (mid 90’s) :) Not quite a boomer though :). Thank you for this info. Can you make your own extended remix of a song?
Something I don't understand. When you use music from Tidal into your DJ software, do you always have to have an internet connection?? Or is the music from Tidal downloaded on your computer? Can you scratch and control the steamed music like an mp3??
I'm told that streaming services like Spotify is illegal to use when DJing. I know amazon music has in their terms and conditions that you can't and I think Spotify is the same way!
ive been using discogs and juno for over a decade and ive never used anything else besides record stores lol. that being said both sites are amazing for rare, quality bangers from any era all formats.
Crossfader's UA-cam Channel is very helpfull. I came across your channel a few week's ago and have watched many video's regarding learning to Dj and so forth. Brilliant channel would highly recommend. Thank you Jamie
Hey Bro Or people out there Ive been doing this a long time... all my vinyl Sounds ok Cause it a long time ago before digital , im talking 1970's and forward Well even back to the mid 1960's... Todays music Is a bit louder But nothing you can do about that. Traktor is my choice No Limit to what you can Do for myself I did use Serato For 9 years And i do have a pc with it. I just ptefer Traktor . Keep up what you do and let nobody say your not Cool !! Oops I mean " KOOL "
@Crossfader. . let me guess. . .the contest is over. On another note, I have always gotten most of my music from Beatport. Will stick to them & atleast I can convert the tracks to either a wav file or a flac file & utilize from there. As for the listening audience whether in a club or at a clients company owned business when throwing parties with a hired DJ, most of the listening audience's don't even pay attention to the sound in music when it comes to hearing the difference in either compressed music or non compressed music. It depends on who the DJ is. In some cases, Dj's who perform, can juggle the sound quality of their music with either the E.Q. or using any one of the effects buttons or keys or even play around with the different midi faders & joggle it from there.
I have a friend who DJs in clubs and sometimes school acquaintance parties. The second one, the venue does rent out really loud big big speakers but my friend gets all his songs through youtube to mp3, sounds alright
afaik the music won't necessarily sounds terrible ripped, but it might just sound that little bit better with a high quality download. I rip stuff to practice with since I don't have a proper library as of yet, so no harm no foul.
One thing not mentioned is the fact that you have to get approved for dj pools. at least for DjCity and BPM Supreme. BPM Supreme also mentions after sign up that it may take up to 72 hours for acceptance. I signed up at DjCity, paid th $90 just to get a message that said your account will be reviewed. If that's the case they shouldn't take your money before your accepted, even the music samples you hear are a terrible quality until you get approved.
Hi there im about to get serato lite or pro and set up with a pair of decks to teach my son how to mix, my sons into hip hop eminem and others, i on the other hand love breakbeat and drum n bass, progressive house. i have apple music but find it a pain the best of times, i pay £9.99 a month and i just listen to music when required i don't buy tracks from apple music. can you recommend a music provider where i can get the tracks my and my son want, basically a all round provider of music, would be nice to get new tracks as well. big thanks Matt UK
ok so I've got a set of ddi 400s coming, completely new to mixing. I only really wanna learn to light up house parties and to just gain a new skill. should I even bother spending more money on a service for music? the speaker il be using is no bigger than two shoe boxes (Bose sound touch 3)
Ultimately it's up to you, ripped music probably won't be that bad but whatever the case higher quality audio files will always win out for best sound. It's a question of value, so while I think rips are probably ok for house parties, anything more professional probably warrants better quality music files.
What about BeatPort? And, if I decide to try BeatPort, and buy CD quality or higher music, how do I play the purchased BeatPort music on my iPhone 8 plus?
are there any UK record pools I can only find American ones and I am not in America. Also say if you subscribe to a record pool for 6 months and download 100 tracks once you cancel your subscription do those tracks not play anymore? also are those tracks encrypted so you will not be able record a mix you make with those tracks in.
I am curious what you say about ripping music from you tube being lower quality does the same apply to cds ripped onto your computer and does it apply to wma ripped files that have been then converted to mp3 online????
Hi Jamie, I think it's time to update this video with 2023 contenders. Spotify pulled out. There are new websites. Would love to hear your take on todays best way to get music. Cheers
Spotify no longer allows third party apps to play music through. I use Djay Pro 2 and Tidal is compatible with it. You can also transfer your Spotify playlists straight to Tidal!
Sorry for all the questions bro ! See this! Right the left wave should show EQ for the track on the left deck and the right for right deck yeah? Did do this, now it just has an overall EQ, so the EQ in both bars is the same. Did you know how to fix this ?
I thought DJ pools would get new music first but I have heard new music in spotify and amazon before they are available in record pools. That is my only complaint about records pools. You do get many new music but not right off way in some occasions.
Most DJs I know especially in the drum & bass community have this attitude that paying money for music is wrong, because it means you're not playing exclusive dubs and not producing your own tunes. If I'm playing commercial stuff or things which aren't on Hypeddit, I buy stuff as I can't afford a subscription service. Yet I've given Apple thousands of pounds over the years for iTunes. What should I do about this? Do these guys have a point?
Traktor allows you to use Soudncloud, however I haven't found any way to download the music. What happens if I want to mix and don't have wifi? Would just prefer to have the songs downloaded and ready to go on a hard drive. Would a djpool be best option for this?
I just buy them. This cost is so much better than the old days before mp3/wav mixing. Back in the old days (hair turning grey) I am just limited to vinyls, and if they sold out, then I’ll have to hunt for it. Vinyl are more expensive and they deteriorate. It’s heavy, it takes up lots of space in the house (I found a mouse living in my collection once), I might end up buying a record just for 1 track. Add to that about 1/4 of the tracks I wasn’t so hot about after I got home and listened to it some more so throes just ended up collecting dust. If the tracks have a flaw (like sometimes they skipped a measure inexplicably) I cannot edit them. Ordering online thru Gemm I was able to have access to lots of vinyl I originally cannot get a hold of, but then it takes time to wait for them to arrive, and shipping adds to the cost, then some tracks I didn’t know why I got them after further listen. Now things are instantaneous, I am not forced to buy the entire album (most of the time), don’t take up space, aren’t heavy to lug around. And most of all, I like to support the people out there making the track.
I just want an opportunity to be a dj, in Chile it is so difficult to buy a controler. I use virtual dj and have a little fun. It's so expensive to be a DJ, and there's only one professional academy. I hope to win! (Hope you can win too)
Las academias de djs son pesimas, mezclar no es tan complicado, la cosa es producir, si quieres aprender a mezclar en chile, tengo contactos qur podrian ayudarte pero aprende a producir y aprende teoria musical... eso es lo mas importante.
Anybody know best place for old school house ? there’s tracks I can’t get on beatport etc but they’re on u tube.im playing my music with record box.thanks

When you rip the tunes from a cd what is the quality
If you get audacity and set record to speaker in you can record stuff of I tunes and then buy the same track off beatport as MP3 then if you run both tracks through a spectral analiser you can't tell the difference they are identical and on traktor it tells me the file is 1347kps instead of 320kps. I dont get why but I know I get alot of free music
@@frasergough3583 CDs are 192 kbps MP3. Not good! Edit: I was very wrong
You are right. I always pay for my music : on Beatport and on Qobuz.com for high resolution audio files
I’m brand spanking new to digital mixing. I used to be a DJ back in the last millennia (mid 90’s) :) Not quite a boomer though :). Thank you for this info.
Can you make your own extended remix of a song?
Can you please make a video about how to record and which app is the best recording app?
love it. i’ll keep up to date w this channel. all things
Something I don't understand. When you use music from Tidal into your DJ software, do you always have to have an internet connection?? Or is the music from Tidal downloaded on your computer? Can you scratch and control the steamed music like an mp3??
Did you find the answer?
2020 = soundiiz. export anything to everything
I like to download from UA-cam on to tablets which is unorthodox using 2 mixes and watch videos while Djing!
Tidal is beautiful!!!
Can't play offline tho
I'm told that streaming services like Spotify is illegal to use when DJing. I know amazon music has in their terms and conditions that you can't and I think Spotify is the same way!
Only illegal to record and distribute the set
You are truly amazing, I am an 11 year old dj, and I'm broke so...
Hustle homie
you can use www.pluspremieres.nz
thank me later
@@AyushPatel-ve9ub you the man
what your camera set use?
Oh!!! I was searching for a video like this. Thank you very much.
Thanks! 🎧
ive been using discogs and juno for over a decade and ive never used anything else besides record stores lol. that being said both sites are amazing for rare, quality bangers from any era all formats.
Crossfader's UA-cam Channel is very helpfull. I came across your channel a few week's ago and have watched many video's regarding learning to Dj and so forth. Brilliant channel would highly recommend. Thank you Jamie
Heavy Hits and BPM Supreme record pools are the best for open format. Beat Junkies is great for hip hop: underground, old school, and new.
You're the only DJ ever broke down the record pool list from from Virtual DJ to Serato record pool
Hey Bro
Or people out there
Ive been doing this a long time... all my vinyl
Sounds ok
Cause it a long time ago before digital , im talking
1970's and forward
Well even back to the mid
1960's...
Todays music
Is a bit louder
But nothing you can do about that.
Traktor is my choice
No Limit to what you can
Do for myself
I did use Serato
For 9 years
And i do have a pc with it.
I just ptefer Traktor .
Keep up what you do and let nobody say your not
Cool !! Oops
I mean " KOOL "
@Crossfader. . let me guess. . .the contest is over. On another note,
I have always gotten most of my music from Beatport.
He said a couple of times "if you are watching *around the time this was posted*" which was back in Dec. You viewed/commented in March.
Hello DJ Miguel Please link up on my personal WhatsApp no +233540935821 if you are DJ by profession. I will love to work with you.
I record from you tube then use a mp3 converter to convert the file. Plus, its free with no sign ups.
How do you record off youtube
I have a friend who DJs in clubs and sometimes school acquaintance parties. The second one, the venue does rent out really loud big big speakers but my friend gets all his songs through youtube to mp3, sounds alright
afaik the music won't necessarily sounds terrible ripped, but it might just sound that little bit better with a high quality download. I rip stuff to practice with since I don't have a proper library as of yet, so no harm no foul.
All i want in christmas is dj controler hmmm😌
kent mawile Mobile Gamer me too 😭
Buy cdjs, ir it's a much better inversion
Poor guy here 😊😌😂😂
@M P yaah its a good dj controler but that cost 300dolar up right?
@M P nahhh im from philipines😊
DJay Pro works with Windows 10 now. The SB 3 is a compatible device now.
can't headphone cue, it's worthless
This was SUPER helpful, thanks! Subscribed
Yeah but you eventually get approved or do they keep your money for nothing?
@@buffdoggi I got denied and money returned. They didn't tell me why I got denied.
Love From India 💓
Hi there im about to get serato lite or pro and set up with a pair of decks to teach my son how to mix, my sons into hip hop eminem and others, i on the other hand love breakbeat and drum n bass, progressive house. i have apple music but find it a pain the best of times, i pay £9.99 a month and i just listen to music when required i don't buy tracks from apple music. can you recommend a music provider where i can get the tracks my and my son want, basically a all round provider of music, would be nice to get new tracks as well. big thanks Matt UK
I'm using Monstercat Gold. It costs $5, but only has Monstercat songs. I only use them so it's no problem for me.
ok so I've got a set of ddi 400s coming, completely new to mixing.
All of my music library is on Spotify. How would you suggest me getting my songs onto the rekordbox software ? Thanks
you can't unless you use some kind of converter but they cost money. sooo annoying
Switching to Tidal
are there any UK record pools I can only find American ones and I am not in America. Also say if you subscribe to a record pool for 6 months and download 100 tracks once you cancel your subscription do those tracks not play anymore? also are those tracks encrypted so you will not be able record a mix you make with those tracks in.
How about downloading straight from iTunes, would that be a good idea?
I am curious what you say about ripping music from you tube being lower quality does the same apply to cds ripped onto your computer and does it apply to wma ripped files that have been then converted to mp3 online????
Thanks for the inside information. What are the best sites for artists to upload to attract dj's for remixing their music?
What if you convert a UA-cam music to wav will it sound good in a club setting?
Thanks Brow! Going to the mentioned links just now.
Hi Jamie, I think it's time to update this video with 2023 contenders. Spotify pulled out. There are new websites. Would love to hear your take on todays best way to get music. Cheers
Spotify was never lossless, but Tidal is. So you're better off with that. :)
Spotify no longer allows third party apps to play music through. I use Djay Pro 2 and Tidal is compatible with it. You can also transfer your Spotify playlists straight to Tidal!
So if you use Tidal or DJay pro you can transfer your spotify songs to rekordbox?
Im getting the Hercules impulse 500 with djuced, is Beatport then for free or do need to buy beatport or something else to download my music?
You can stream from Beatport LINK but you'll need to pay a subscription fee for that
And if you make your own music/beats and use that, is the sound still gonna be “bad” on bigger stage soundsystems?
I use BPM Supreme, but the drawback to this is if you're looking for old school classics they are very limited.
Of you want Old School rip CD'S. They're dirt cheap and serve as a back up "for ever"
Sorry for all the questions bro ! See this! Right the left wave should show EQ for the track on the left deck and the right for right deck yeah? Did do this, now it just has an overall EQ, so the EQ in both bars is the same. Did you know how to fix this ?
Traxsource
Very Helpful👍
Gotta say, Hypeddit is the way to go. Hundreds of songs. The Top 100s alone are worth a look. Thank you Crossfader. This was an awesome tip!
I love bpm supreme but wish it had the artwork!
Traktor allows you to use Soudncloud, however I haven't found any way to download the music. What happens if I want to mix and don't have wifi? Would just prefer to have the songs downloaded and ready to go on a hard drive. Would a djpool be best option for this?
Yes, using a DJ pool would be best for downloading the tracks to your hard drive incase of no wifi! 🙌🏻
@@Crossfader Thanks!
This is absolutely the greatest x max present I v ever got. Thank you so much for making this video right before I buy my self a ddj 400.
Do you need a MacBook pro for the ddj400 pioneer ?
Phil great job well done the way you are making effort in educating people about djing GOD BLESS YOU
What is the best place to actually download to a usb drive in mp3 and KAR format.
One of those controller would be really sweet for me this holiday... 😎😎
Can I download from itunes store? I'm asking for the sound quality
Jamie, thanks, man, for sharing your knowledge with us. Awesome!
Sebastian Alarcon gracias 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽♥️
Aparte de ser malas son caras 🤦🏻♂️
get a second hand entry-level model
err....you forgot Traxsource. That's what I use and It's thoroughly recommended
Does anyone, like me, think that uncompressed audio (AIFF or WAV) are the only way to go and to generally avoid MP3s or AAC encoding....?
The file sizes are just too large and the sound systems in clubs not detailed enough to warrant them for most DJ's unfortunately.
Robert Broussard No, it’s just you being a subconscious audio snob. The quality difference is negligible
Anybody know best place for old school house ? there’s tracks I can’t get on beatport etc but they’re on u tube.im playing my music with record box.thanks
And I also liked the: but first :)
I am using The AU to to begin to find techno and house and regurlarly get psytrance about 40 a month. Since it has killer remixes and mashups.
The AU?
Where can you get break beats from, streaming or pay service?
