- The Canon R6, does it have a place in the world as a photo camera?
There are a few people that might be interested in this camera, those of you who do wedding or event photography, anyone who wants to do low light or street photography. But at only 20 megapixels, will it stand up against other less expensive cameras on the market? Today I take a look at several different examples and let you know what I think.

Glad some Chanels are making separate videos for some of us who don't care for the Video aspects of digital cameras.
Happy to help! I’ll have one on the R5 out soon if you’re interested. 👍
From other photo reviews of the R5/R6, the servo face/eye tracking focus mode is maybe the most important reason to upgrade to these camera. Nobody would consider shooting a bride walking down he aisle at f1.2 but they are doing that now and keeping her eyes in focus.
The eye AF is great on this body. I didn't talk about it since it's not a feature I use that often. 🤷♂️
@@rynfilms one of the most important features that make this camera above its peers (eye af, tracking, FPS, blackout free EVF). You ignored most of this
The af modes are half the reason I got an R6 and R5.
A few thoughts from an R6 owner who also owns a 5D Mark IV:
- You didn't give the focal length of the .5 second exposures you took but it looks like at least 50mm, probably much more. That's asking a lot of any camera at that focal length, even with IBIS. I got some pin-sharp images at 1/13 second at 35mm on my RF 24-105mm F/4, which BTW may be the sharpest lens I now own. Did I miss some? Yes. But more hits than misses.
- FPS is probably faster in one-shot than Servo. Wildlife shooters will use Servo normally.
- A user with any considerations about the 20 MP would never shoot CRAW. But it's probably usable anyway (but not by me).
- Shadow recovery is much better in the R6 than the 5D Mark IV. MUCH better.
- Eye AF is brilliant. Animal eye AF is brilliant.
The R6 has taken the place of my 7D Mark II as a backup camera. You didn't even discuss the built-in focus bracketing, which is brilliant if you shoot macros or still lifes. To get the best image quality, make sure to use L lenses. I'll gradually build up my collection.
Hey John, These cameras have so many features it's hard to touch on all of them. I've played a little with focus bracketing in the past but it's something I won't use on any regular basis.
As for the focal lengths. I was between 30mm and 55mm for the IBIS test photos.
Roughly how many shots can you pull off with one battery? (Apart from CIPA ratings)
@@KayCrash I use the my R6 mainly for video, so I can't say. The one time I went birding with it, I did use high-burst electronic shooting a good deal (20 FPS). I don't know off the top of my head how many images I took; under 1000 over a couple of hours. This is certainly more images than I'd normally take, simply because I could with that burst rate. Towards the end the burst speed dropped dramatically and I realized the battery was well below 50%. Today I shot maybe an hour or so of 4K/30 video and my battery is 50%.
It's a good question you ask. In the future I will be sure to actually count images and video footage so I can better answer such questions. But, I'm not a tech channel. 😉🤷🏾♂️
@@JohnDrummondPhoto Thank you so much for this reply 😊 I’m mainly shooting weddings with well over 2000 pics sometimes. And I’m planning to switch to the R6 from my 5D III. I’m trying to get an idea on how many batteries i should invest on. I didn’t find an answer for this question in any video until you replied to my comment and Thanks a bunch for that 😊
@@KayCrash you're welcome. I suggest a battery grip if you're doing weddings, plus extra batteries. The R6 is great for a lot of things but it sounds like you're going to put more photo demands on it than I have so far.
I liked the video. What size prints can you print out with this 20 megapixel camera? I like to take pictures of trains (they move between 0mph and 70mph with most between 20mph and 50mph) and I'm trying to decide what to go with. I am debating between the canon r and r6. I am not a pro as I usually shoot in af and I post on Instagram. Thanks for your honesty on your review of this camera.
Fastest frame rates you don’t get with a low battery on any camera. And you get different results from different lenses. All my RF lenses gives me the 12 frames pr second on my R6 with full autofocus in animal mode taking photos of birds.
It wasn't a low battery. I'm guessing it's because I was using an EF lens.
@@rynfilms yes, u have to use a RFmount
Canon R6 manual has a page and a half of EF lenses that support 12 fps. All of my L lenses are supported: 16-35 f/4, 24-70 f/2.8 II, 35mm f/1.4 II, 70-200 f/2.8 IS II, 85mm f/1.4 IS, and 100mm f/2.8 Macro. So most modern EF lenses are supported.
Why did you say you're not impressed with it as a photo camera? Is it the picture quality? The price? Do you wish you could push the ISO higher? The dynamic range? What is disappointing or what makes you go 'meh' about the R6? What options do you think are better and why? I would like to hear that.
The picture quality is going to be great for most people. I do think the price is too high for what it is, the drastic drop in MP from the R was surprising to me. As a studio photographer, I love to have detail for editing. It's a great camera, it's just not for me. For the price, I'd stick with the R or a 5D4 as a photo camera.
@@rynfilms The turn off for me with the R is the user controls/interface. The R6 has returned to the standard look and feel of an EOS camera and having had a half dozen models through the years, I like a camera that feels at home in my hands. The R - not so. The R6, yes.
@@Truelight54 I can understand that. I'm not the biggest fan of the R button layout. I think the R5 has a nicer balance of new and old layout.
Great video! Thanks for your honesty. In burst mode can it pre-record frames prior to clicking the button like on the M6 Mark II? Thanks
Thank you James! I'll have to look into that feature, I didn't know it could do that.
I heard a lot on the focusing system that has been greatly improved. But surprisingly, I didn't hear you mentioning about it. I've got some issues focusing on subjects that are in low light situation with my 5D mark 3, and I'm wondering if this R6 has solve this issue.
I didn't have any issues with the AF on this camera. It's definitely better than the 5D3, that thing is terrible in low light for focusing! I haven't had much of an issue in low light with AF with the 5D4 and newer bodies.
just bought R6..Excited!! But stuck on which sd card should i get? For sure not going to buy the expensive ones. Looking at UHS I cards 64 t0 128 GB but which brand is good ... Scan Disk, Lexar....so on. I am more on photo shooting . RYN any brand that you recommend ? Thanks
I pretty much only use SanDisk SD cards. no particular reason, it just ended up that way.
bhpho.to/2XYdZuC
Do you have an rf lens? That is where you get the FPS. Should be around 12.
I do not have an RF lens to test on this camera. 🤷♂️
Wich Lens you use for Test the Shutter Modes? I guess you need RF-Lens for best results.
I was using an EF lens. That's my guess as well about the RF lens.
I use a Nikon D500 for shooting motorcycle racing. How do you think I would find the R6 for this?
Most likely an upgrade! I'm not familiar with the D500 though. The AF on the R6 is fantastic!
im was using the Canon 7dmark ii, and now im considering buying the r6,but im also considering buying the 1dx mark II :D not sure which is better :P but im not used to mirrorless camereas :P So i think im gonna go for 1dx mark II, You think its a downgrade ? :P
Well, for the price of a 1DX2, you could buy an R and a really nice lens. Hmm...
That's a tough one. I personally like the R over the 1DX just due to the size. Have you made a list of what you actually need in a camera? Sometimes that can help. Good luck!
I shoot with my EF lenses. In Continuous High, if the lens isn't compatible with the high 12fps and the (white) H+ blinks, you're looking at 6.8fps. If it's a solid (white) H+ you're getting about 9.2fps. Only if the lens and other variables in the camera allow the (green) H+ icon to show is when you're looking at 12fps with the mechanical shutter.
Oh dang! That's the best description of the high speed shooting I've seen yet, thanks!
Got the R6 about 4 weeks ago - I am a photographer and not a videographer all, and I am loving the R6 (switched from the 6D).
That's a good upgrade! And you have some good video features if you ever need them. 👍
Im more going for the r6 as i have some ef lenses that have no stabilisation so I'm hoping with the rf adapter the IBIS helps as i have a 5d mkiii
Yep, the IBIS definitely helps out with the EF lenses. It would be a good upgrade from the 5D3!
How fast was your shutter speed?... byside of fps your first look is one of the syphatically art... Thx a lot
For the fps test, I tried several different shutter speeds. nothing seemed to change how fast it shot.
@@rynfilms maybe not the lpe6(h) battery or less than 25%... or you have a Monday Model (they are ristricted to 7 fps 🙈)
Did you use EF lens to test mechanical shutter speed? Did you use the new battery? Canon has a list of EF lens that support 12 FPS. The list is towards the end of the manual. Make sure the new battery is at 60% or more capacity.
It was an EF lens, guessing it was not on the supported 12fps list. 🤷♂️
for high speed fps from what i saw u need a high charge in the battery + u need an RF lens (while some EF lenses can keep up, not all of them do)
You are correct. 👍
I just printed a 24x36 image absolutely phenomenal. Canon EOS R6 with the 70 - 200 mm RF 2.8. best combo in the game.
Nice! 🥳
Hi there, i have the 77D looking to upgrade to full frame. would you recommend this over the R5.
Also the eye auto focus, is it all only in the middle area or will it focus anywhere the eye is locked in on the view finder. Thank you.
FPS comment. What lens, what shutter speed, what battery strength, and new battery type?
I tried several different shutter speeds. The lens was whatever one I had on in the video. I'm thinking you might get a faster burst rate with an RF lens, of which I have none.
Nice informative video. Lenses drive my camera purchases and what drove me to the R6 is that magnificent RF 50mm 1.2 L. The 1.2 max aperture paired with IBIS allows for high quality photos in virtually any lighting condition. Crazy sharpness (even wide open), beautiful colors, dreamy smooth bokeh, low noise at high ISOs, amazing autofocus/eye tracking...c'mon...this combo is pretty hard to beat. And about the 20mp...I would say it's enough for prints up to 16x20. So if you're not printing larger than that or cropping in like crazy, 20 is more than enough.
That 50mm RF is an amazing lens! I still can't justify the price though. 🤷♂️
You need an lp e6n battery that's above 80 and some lens don't work for it. I've had it work before on ef 70-200 is ii and my rf lens
It for sure was some combo of lens and battery. Good things to know though.
Excellent video. I think you mentioned in the early part of video that EOS R has 32 megapixel; actually it should be 30.3 megapixels. I am a hybrid shooter and love my R. Just sold my old 6D and debating between R6 and R5 or wait for Canon to release some more camera bodies in 2021
I probably did say 32. close enough! 😆
I've had 5D4 for a year after 6D for 6 months and 80D for 2 years prior to that. Loved the increase in image quality and photo taking capability at each of these forward steps. The 5D4 such a capable camera, and I love all that detail.
The 5D4 is a very capable photo camera. I'd probably still be shooting with that one if I had never moved into video. II must say I don't miss the large camera bodies though. 😆
Dang... So many upgrades over the years... As for me, I'm simply gonna jump from the 60D straight to the R6, LOL 😅😄😂
Landscape EOS R, sports 80D... love them both.
Awesome!
I've read somewhere that the R6 has no anti-alias filter, which should help offset the loss of megapixels from the R... and in samples they do look pretty similar.
Hmm.. I don't know anything about the anti-alias filter. The samples are close, but I'm not sure I could go backwards in MP for some of the work that I do.
it does have a AAfilter. all canon cameras have them. u were told bad info
@@stevefitzgerald9193 not all Canon. 5DS R don’t have AA filter.
Currently sporting the 70D to shoot ice hockey 99% of the time with a Sigma 70-200mm APO DG EX lens...It’s all a bit older, but works fine...Have an R6 enroute (arriving Wednesday), and the new RF 70-200mm from Canon. Totally agree with you on the 20MP. The 70D is 20MP and it’s not an issue, and that’s an older camera with older processer. I’m not worried at all with the R6, and the biggest benefit is not taking up as much space!
That's going to be a phenomenal combo for shooting ice hockey! You'll love the AF on the R6. 👍
And that RF 70-200.. 🔥So good!!
@@rynfilms Absolutely...I’m getting used to using the eye tracking...works well when you shoot from behind then net where players are coming toward you and looking up to shoot or pass...doesn’t work so well when shooting from center ice where guys aren’t looking at the camera for more than a split second and criss-crossing a lot. My son is a goalie and it is actually doing a great job tracking his eye through the mask! I’m working on tweaking the tracking settings (how fast it changes tracks, picks up new ones, or sticks with one)...it’s been fun!
I have the 90D for my higher resolution images being at 32.5 Mp on a crop sensor. I now have an R6 and I have to say, although I can see a difference in resolution when cropping in, the R6 at 20.1 Mp is giving me amazing quality images. It does everything better than the 90D, and I LOVE my 90D.
As for not getting 12fps mechanical, I have heard that the battery needs to be almost fully charged to get 12. Anything below 75% is going to slow down that burst rate.
What you are saying about the battery might be true on a brand new battery but once you used it for a while, you can drain it a lot more before you lose the H+ green which indicates full 12 FPS burst mode.
Awesome! Sounds like the R6 is going to get a ton of use in your hands. 👍
What about difference in image quality when not cropping in?
The 20mp is the only thing I'm slightly unsure about with the R6. I'm using 24mp now. I rarely crop in, though.
@@joannefelipa367 hi, so far, image quality is superb. Don't forget the sensor is basically the same one in the 1DX iii, the flagship model. I've shot a few different types of pictures and can't fault the quality. The whole camera is just amazing really.
@@memarkmc Awesome, thanks! Can't wait to receive mine
I currently use the Canon EOS 80D. EOS R5 will be the replacement but the 80D will still be used in some situations, primarily deep sky astrophotography
That's one heck of an upgrade! What specifically about the 80D makes it good for astrophotography?
I love my 80D too! I am still considering the R6 for Boxing Day though
I use the R6. It is a fantastic camera. I don't really care about the 20mp because I don't need stupid sharpness or have to crop a ton. I love the IBIS as I can stay pretty steady handheld. Thanks for the content.
Awesome! What's the longest you can do a handheld shot? I wasn't able to get anything steady after a 1/2 second.
@@rynfilms I don't think I went beyond a 1/4 of second.
I am a portrait photographer and I use the Canon R with the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art and the Canon 85mm 1.4 IS!
Two great portrait lenses!
Looks like you’ve been using EF not supported in 12fps mode. Please check the manual at page 851. 12fps works just great on supported lenses
Most likely.
I bought it and not just 'for fun' and I love it, it's a lot better than my 5DIII's.
Using 5D Mark Iv at the moment and looking to make the jump to R6. Still not 100% sure though... I shoot mostly portraits, weddings and events. I know it's not the perfect camera, but i think it's a big improvement over the 5D Mark Iv. Or does anyone disagree?
5DM4 is very close to perfect Matias. Gonna jump go R5.
If you're only talking about photography, the 5D4 Might be your better bet. The IBIS for photos is pretty nice though.
@@rynfilms Is there any other downside changing to R6 than the 10 MP drop vs 5D MIV? The biggest downside of the 5D is that 30% of all of my photos are not in focus.. I would happily lose 10 MP if my shots were in focus.
@@Surfingb1rd It looks like that would be the only downgrade, on paper anyway. Are you missing a lot of focus in lower light situations? If that's the case the R6 may be well worth the investment. 30% seems to be a lot of missed photos.
@@rynfilms Ever since i got the 5D Mark IV (3 years ago) i feel like i have missed that 30% focus of all my photos. I tried every trick in the book and switched all of my Sigma glass to Canons. Things got slightly better after that and I just got used to not having tack sharp photos. I’m rly strict about the focus in my photos and I don’t think many ppl would even care or see the difference, but for me it has been something I have struggled for a long time. I hope the change from DSLR to mirrorless helps out.. And I would probably buy the R5 but it’s crazy expensive and I rly don’t need 8K video or 45MP. Hope I will be happy with the R6 and it will meet my needs 😊
For photography I use the R6 and the pocket Sony RX100 vii
I've heard good things about that Sony, Haven't used one yet though.
I still rock a 5div for photos... Mostly because my strobes are buggy with my R.
How are you triggering the strobes? I haven't had any issues with the R in studio.
I am currently using an EOS 6D original. Looking for everything the R6 has to offer; higher burst speed, IBIS, low light capabilities, although the 6D is much better than my 40D, eye and face detect, etc. It is also MUCH more affordable than the R5. Not really into video yet. Maybe the R6 will change that.
The R6 would definitely be a big upgrade for you. Have you thought about the EOS R? It could save you a bit of money and still get you a great quality camera upgrade.
Over heating on the R6 shooting stills... why??
I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking.
I'm still on a 5D3. Can't decide between EOS R and R6. Massive price difference here in SA.
Either one would be a great upgrade. Many great reasons to stick with the R, But if you find yourself doing a lot of lowlight stuff the R6 might be worth seriously considering.
Gaan vir die R6. Uitstekende kamera en selfde MP as waaraan jy gewoond is. Kleiner lêers en minder stoorspasie nodig.
I’m rocking the Canon 80D with the Sigma 17 - 50 F2.8 as my main stay for photography until my next upgrade
That's a solid setup!
Love my 80D setup as well. That Eye AF though...(I have small kids that is near impossible to get them to be still while I change my focus points)
I have the 80D as well. I use it with 2.8L lenses (24-70 & 70-200). I'm pushing it to the limits with indoor sports. Looking to get the R6 but really want the R5 because I crop pics of players when they're in the opposite end of the basketball court. What do you suggest - R6 or R5 and which cards?
3-Piece if you factor in the crop factor of the 80d, taking the same shot on r5 on the same focal length lens, would still be a 28mp equivalent (45mp/1.6 crop factor) if you cropped the image to get the same framing. This is not far off from the 80d’s 24mp. You would need a longer focal length lens to get the same reach on a full frame. However, what you do get with both the r5 and r6 is much better low light performance and ability to push the ISO further than the 80d. In which case, have you considered using a teleconverter on the 70-200? Keep in mind you will lose 2 stops of aperture using the 2X converter and would need to bump the iso if keeping the shutter speed the same
@@joezajew I haven't thought about the teleconverter because of the reasons you stated. I try to stay around 2500 - 3200 ISO and then do a little noise reduction in LR. I also shoot a little under exposed and then brighten it up in post. As far as the crop factor, I thought i heard some reviews mention that you can shoot the R5/R6 at either full-frame or in crop mode at 1.6 magnification. Is it true that they have a setting for it? Thanks for the information.
Any chance the memory card slowed down the FPS?
you need to have that new type battery and needs to be charged to shoot full speeds
It shouldn't. Now that I think about it, it was probably the EF lens that slowed it down.
Using a CanonR and RP for photos. Really thinking about getting a R6 as well... Still undecided.
Amazing
Thanks 👍
In your 10/8/20 video "Amazing or Flop", you indicated to click on link of "My Go To Photo Camera" - in doing so, it brings up several with the Sony Alpha 1 at the top of the list - is this your "Go to for Photos"?
Oh my, I should check that link! It's definitely not a sony! 🤣Thank you Debra. My current go to is the Canon R5. bhpho.to/2ZVr08G
Portrait, landscape and commercial work an EOS R. For sports i use 7d mark ii's.
Rad!
I had the R, upgraded to the R5 and then got the R6 as a second shooter/backup camera they are very much the same to use, sold the R the eye auto focus on the new ones is so much better
Nice combo! I'm currently on the R5 and the R. I like having mostly the same button setup on both bodies. I have to say I don't miss the touch bar from the R
I use the R5 and RP, haven’t used my RP since my R5 arrived.
I feel the same way...I always planned to keep my R because it has great value for the money. but now not so much. I just never use it.
I can't wait to get my hands on the R5. The RP will make a decent backup body just incase. 👍
After two weeks with the R6 im starting to think the 20mp sensor is not enough for cropping with Birds and Sports.
Definitely not enough for heavy cropping. I've had pretty good luck with the R5. It's a lot more $, but you get a lot more too.
7fps !!! How fast was the memories card you used ?
Fast enough. Pretty sure it was the lens I had on.
I had the R and the RP, sold the R to buy the R5, still waiting for R5, decided to get an R6 while they were briefly in stock and now I’m considering canceling the R5 order. Looks like you live in AZ? I grew up in Tucson but now live in ROC(republic of California) 😢
I'll be testing out the R5 soon. Unfortunately I don't have the 5 and 6 to test side by side.
I am in AZ! Some of the test images were shot just outside of Tucson. 👍
Still shooting with the 5div.
It's a solid camera! If I wasn't doing so much video, that's what I would have. 👍
The Canon 80D but seriously considering the R6.
It would be a nice upgrade from the 80D! 👍
Ef lenses adapted won’t do full 12fps photo burst, there are a list of lenses that will allow it.
Thanks James! It was some conbo of lens and battery that had my test limited,.
I don't fully agree. Other youtubers found R6 has better dynamic range, a weaker AA filter, better IBIS (you didn't mention handheld
ability with 400mm lenses). Your getting same sensor as in a 1ds $6,000 camera. Tests show vs 5d 30mp cameras the pics
looks better, because the files are cleaner, color science is improved, RF lenses resolve more. IBIS with OS lenses and internal IBIS
yields shots like from a tripod, 8 F stops of stabilization. All this for 2500 dollars.
Here is a hint. I would use this with the 16-35 f2.8 , 28-70 f2.0 , 70-200mm f2.8 and get my crop done in camera
by using the zoom to crop exactly and not waist pixels. This is how we did it in the film days.
Knowledgeable Ken Rockwell points out the linera increase in MP of the 45mp R5 is only 30%, hard to see in standard
blowups. Mostly wasted pixels if you don't crop with the lens on the camera
It sounds like you're saying I'm not knowledgable on how to use a camera. We all use them for different circumstances. These videos are based on how I use a camera and what works best for me. If you're looking for exact numbers and scientific explanations on why one is better than another, then I'm not your guy.
7D Mk1, desperate to upgrade ☺
The 7D is still a solid camera. 👍
I use hasseblad 503 and Nikon f3 and f5
Ooh, a Hasselblad! I haven't used one of those for a while. I loved using that camera.
I can’t put that in the closet
Canon R and 6D MKII, Tamron 24-70 and 70-200 G2
Awesome combo Jay! 👍
Still rocking a canon 70D 🙃 and R6 is going to be a huge upgrade
Sounds like you're really looking forward to the R6. Definitely an upgrade from the 70D!
I've got a 70d and was thinking about the r as an upgrade but am tempted to keep saving the pennies for an R6. R5 is way out of budget!
@@DelvesPhotos I’m in the same boat! Tempted to get the R but like the higher frame rate of the R6
I use 2 EOS 5D Mark III and a EOS R
Those 5D cameras are workhorses!
@@rynfilms I always treated them pretty badly because of my job (wedding photographer), but they never let me down. I changed the shutter on both just to be safe. They have some shortcomings (slow SD slot and inaccurate focus in low light), but they are really tireless workmates. I'll cry when it's time to change them.
Canon 5D Mark III
Great camera with terrible low light AF. 🤷♂️
The 20MP count matters to me because I do wildlife photography, and often need to crop in post. $4,000 (CAD) for a camera with only 20MP? Not happy.
It is the same sensor as the 1DX, but that is a niche (reportage/sports/?) camera, whose users mostly require smaller file sizes for fast upload time,, and don't need to crop or print large sizes.
It sounds like the R5 would be much more appropriate for your needs. 👍
Presumably, before plus 20 mega pixel cameras, you couldn’t do wildlife photography?
Never understood this argument. Wildlife photography has been around for decades but its only comparatively recently that there’s been an obsession for large cropping. Can’t help thinking it says more about the lack of field craft of the photographer and the ease in which they are persuaded by camera manufacturers and media. In 16 years of wildlife photography I’ve rarely had to do any high crops, just mostly for aesthetics.
If a 20 megapixel camera makes you unhappy, the perhaps your interest in wildlife photography is for all the wrong reasons.
Photos Fuji XH1, XT3, Xpro1 (travel and fun). Canon 5DM4, 5DSR, 90D (paid gigs).
That sounds like quite the collection. 👍
@@rynfilms pure fun. But I’m good for the next 5yrs at least. Probably 10 yrs lol.
For 12 frames per second your exposure must be at least one thousandth of a second. You must be using the new battery and it must be at 60% charge. It will do it if you read the instructions. I know because I’ve done it.
Cool!
C-RAW vs RAW. Compare in post! The test is in shadow and highlight recovery. GEEZ
Are you saying I did it wrong?
@@rynfilms lol Comparing properly exposed images is leaves much on the table.
For stills, Canon EOS R and EOS R5.
I'll be testing out the R5 soon! 🥳
I would buy for wildlife photography mostly, BIF (Birds in flight). The animal eye detect is supposed to be amazing, best out there not named R5. Unfortunately thgis review didn't help with that.
I don't shoot much wildlife. I touch on the animal eye AF a bit in my R5 video. It was pretty impressive.
Fiji X-T3 & X-T4
Those are two other cameras to chose from. 🤷♂️
I agree - I'd stick to the EOS R!
Yeah, I'm pretty lukewarm on the R6.
The R5 however.. 😆😆😆WOOHOO!!!
Just switched from the a7iii to the R6 and couldn't be happier! The ergonomics, performance and quality are crazy good! I think one thing Canon has over Sony is the user experience. It's just far more intuitive.
So you think the R6 is worth the extra money? I'm currently deciding between Sony a7iii or Canon R6. I shoot animals so I'm mainly interested in these for the autofocus. I'd get the Sony because its cheaper, but I'm a bit concerned about the lcd (lower resolution & non-rotating), the supposedly annoying menu structure & worse ergonomics than Canon. Shops are closed where I live due to covid, so I can't test out these things for myself.
I'm currently shooting Canon (750d) and even that old & way cheaper camera has a better lcd than the Sony. I also find the menu very user friendly and I love the ergonomics.
I'm just wondering if these little things matter much in just general shooting experience? I've only ever shot canon so I can't compare.
I'm leaning towards the canon but I'd love to hear from someone who has both.
The one thing I'm unsure about with the R6 is 20mp vs 24mp. My current canon is 24mp & so is the sony. I'd want to use the camera professionally. I know 20mp should be plenty even for large prints. But I just wonder if you notice anything in the image quality between the Sony and r6?
Agree 💯
If you're more used to using Canon, I'd stick with it. I tried many different Sony cameras in 2019 & 2020 and didn't find a single one that I liked better than my Canon. I definitely agree that they are not as comfortable to hold or as easy to use.
@@rynfilms Thank you for your insight! It is hard to give up these 'luxuries' once you're already used to them especially. I'll stick with Canon.
@@joannefelipa367 I really can't say which one is ultimately "better". Both cameras are amazing, and possess the capabilities to accomplish just about anything you want. I do love the R6 for its user friendliness, and ergonomic construction, which actually go a lot further than one might think. I mean, if that part of the shooting process is more enjoyable, then you'll find yourself wanting to use the camera a lot more. That's how it was with me and the R6. I instantly noticed how much more enjoyable the user experience was, and that to me is worth the extra cash. With that being said, the a7iv will probably be released this year, and if Sony does it right, they're going to crush the competition, and i may just end up selling my R6 for it. In the meantime, I'm LOVING the R6!!! Oh, and the 20mp count is plenty!
Two R6 & R
Nice!
I'm not sure you actually used this camera enough to be able to make a review video. You also forgot to mention that FPS drop when the battery is low power.
I actually had to use it? Cant just pull it out of the box and review it? Who knew??
I still use a 5dMk3, so I am seriously considering this or the R5. Just photos no videos
The R5 would be a massive upgrade from the MK3!
So far I've been highly impresses with the R5 for photography. Video coming soon. 👍
On my EOS R I get more frames per second, when I switch my lens to MF.
I hadn't though of that. 🤔
RYN films I use back button focus and I noticed that by accident. Don’t know why this is.
That's not with continuous focus though is it? Isn't it only 5fps with ai servo?
@@DelvesPhotos The R drops to 5 fps in servo. On the R6, it didn't seem to make much difference.
Canon 7D Mark ll want to Bey CanonR6
The R6 would be a nice upgrade. 👍
At the moment I haven't any camera... Nikon Z6ii or the R6 or the S5 would be a good choice...
The choices are endless!
Canon R6 for 3 days and the Canon T6S for about 5 years.
5 years is a good run, definitely time for an upgrade. 👍
Canon eos R still... ✊🏼📸👊🏼
I dig it!
The cropping matters
It matters to some, not to all. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the great video! I am I am not really impressed with the R5 or the R6. I am holding on to my EOS R. Its a great camera!
The R is bomb! I'll be testing out the R5 soon, hopefully I feel a bit better about that body. 👍
Canon 6d/7d
I dig it!
Shutters problem
I dont buy a 20mp csm for this price. If it was 1500 maybe but for over 2000 i rater buy a sony a7r3 i can get it for 1800 euros here with all the glory of 40+ mp
But then again isn't the new Sony 12MP?
I use a Canon EOS-R
The EOS R is awesome!
I got the r6 hahah
Awesome! Are you doing more photo or video?
EF lenses with adapter doesn’t unlock the 12 fps
I learned that after making this video. 🤷♂️
EOS 1V & EOS 5D MK III
1V? Can't say I've ever even heard of that one. 🤷♂️
@@rynfilms It was the last of the 1 Series Film bodies! It is the basis of the 1DX camera's. It is a very nice camera.
Why would you not buy it? Be specific. You missed a few things about the camera like autofocus, etc.
There is no way to cover everything about the camera without having a massively long video. I cover the things that I'm curious about and talk about the issues I come across. The AF is great on this camera, I touch on it in another video.
I'm not buying it because I would rather spend my money on the R5. Way more upgrades for the $$.
Geez how did folks ever do billboard sized photos with the Canon 5D (Mark 1) that is only 8 MP????? Plot twist, I already know the answer.
You just blew my mind..
R6
Sony A7C
FYI I use R6
Nice!
Canon EOS R :-)
One of my all time favorites!
Simple my R6
Amazing!
EOS R
Such a great camera!
canon 600d + iphone
Sometimes the iPhone is the best because it's always there!
RYN films You’re absolutely right. I just make videos and photos to share. Whatever I can bring all the time is the best.
7 fps maybe it's your SD cards
R6 bad camera
Terrible review
Great comment Paul.
EOS R
One of my favorites!
