as a Japanese viewer: 1:34 the original sentence says “1マス”(Ichi-masu), it usually means one area of grid background. so it’s difficult to solve this puzzle by using a different scale square. 8:58 in the first paragraph, “The minor planet P, its diameter is less than 1km, and has no bumps and dips, it is regarded as research target perfectly spherical planet, so 2 researcher were dispatched.” sorry for poor translation. I hope this helps your thinking. and Thank you Icely, for touching puzzles form Japan! Chess Battle Advanced!
For anyone who still hasnt figured out the solution to the puzzle at 9:00 You put the luggage at slot 1 and since dispatcher A can climb 1 high steps the luggage basically created a complete staircase on the left but since the planet is completely spherical, dispatcher A can go the long way around to dispatcher B.
I don't like how the question was phrased. "Spherical" implies it's a 3D world (yes the Japanese text said "spherical" not "circular"), so the astronaut could just go around the obstacle without having to go around the globe
@@rickole7404 I've also thought about that and I knew that it would break the whole puzzle and so I assumed it was just bad phrasing of their sentence and actually meant circular even in the Japanese writing
Dispatcher A: *loops around a 2d image of a "spherical" planet Also Dispatcher A: "I think I forgot something." Dispatcher B: "If you forgot, then it wasn't important." Dispatcher A: "Yeah you're right." The whole 3rd dimension:
4:15 the red piece to the right is only 2 long instead of 3, which means the L shape is resting on one of the squares of the red piece, so it's not floating
I actually saw the solution to the last one immediately. The goal was outside of the maze so I immediately started looking for another brake in the wall.
3:41 At the first glance at the maze, I saw in the corner of my eyes were the words "TOP VIEW" So I took a closer look to see that some blocks could not be made with the pieces given on a 2 dimensional plane. This was so satisfying to figure out.
The solution I was thinking of for the second troll puzzle is much simpler. Remove the black square from underneath the fish so the fish falls to the ground where you can access it. I mean, it's technically not written in the rules that the fish is affected by gravity, but then, neither is the fact that you can fall into the tutorial room from above.
On the hamster one, you don't need to assume that the green is flat-side-up, because the red piece to the side is shorter than the rest; necessarily meaning that part of it is UNDER the green. These were all really easy, like 30 seconds is the longest one took me.
That's the part I don't get. If the red piece is under the green piece, how can the hamster pass? The red piece is 4 blocks long, so it being 2 to the side and 2 under means that there is no passage for the hamster. Am I missing something? Edit: Wait Im dumb, red is 3 wide lol, forget about it
the solution i had in mind for the penguin puzzle is to move the 3x3 of tiles (still "a black square") to make a bridge to the goal but your solution definitely feels like the intended one
For the puzzle at 9:05, is it just place the luggage at 1 then walk out from the left? The puzzle specifically says that the planet is perfectly spherical, which means that Dispatcher A can just walk all the way around the planet till they get to B
Ben's Comments: I think I get it now, most trick puzzles involve circumventing the rules in some way - which isn't that fun - but these trick puzzles involve a little nuance in the rules which gives the puzzles an extra dimension, turning them from seemingly impossible to certainly possible. Bad trick puzzles want you to break the rules, but good trick puzzles hide something extra in plain sight, you just have to find it.
honestly normal Professor Layton already has enough bullshit troll logic "If there's a fork in the road, and one road sign says "" which way should you go to not be stuck in traffic?" and then theres the seven squares of chocolate, and plenty other puzzles that are bullshit, because the only non bullshit PL puzzles are ones that can be considered math and geometry homework for 12 year olds, like the "my sister is three times older than me, but in 6 years she'll ony be twice older" or the "square of area 1 is in a circle in a square in a circle in a square, find the size of the big square" which is just tedium and not bullshit troll logic
For the second puzzle, I wish it specified that you can only move a 1x1 square, since I ended up with a not-so-satisfying solution involving moving a 3x3 chunk. The actual solution is really nice though. 8:45 Actually, it is impossible for the path to be two steps lower because then it would be visible up top.
2:35 for the penguin puzzle, my guess was to move the black square below the fish and the fish will fall down, the penguin will just go forward to get it easily after that, but the answer you showed was kinda good too that was smart
The game EDGE is full of isometric perspective tricks like in the ceiling puzzle. EDGE isn't a puzzle game, but it's still fun and could be worth checking out!
for the penguin puzzle, it doesn't say how big the black square has to be, so I just took a 3x3 square from the blue hole's platform and made a bridge to the fish platform

I paused at 9:42 took me about ten seconds to notice it and im stoned, you just always look at mazes backwards, go from the goal to the start, the "normal" route has a guaranteed minimum of 2 so obviously that couldnt be the answer so i immediately looked at the ones on the edge and saw the missing pixels
Yeah I think the "clever trick" of the astronaut puzzle was that the planet was small and round, so you can walk all the way around it. It's just not hard because we think of planets as round all the time.
These weren't difficult. Though my guess for the second puzzle was to move the 3x3 square since it didn't clarify how big the square had to be, but your solution is way better. Also the hidden path in the mouse puzzle couldn't be two steps down assuming every piece is the same height, otherwise it'd be attached corner to corner and you'd still be able to barely see it poking out from underneath.
perhaps for the penguin one, you can also move the tile under the fish? it only says "falling is OK", not that it applies specifically to the penguin only (assuming the translation captures that nuance properly)
my awnser to the phantom thief was to get to that ledge diamond and falling into that `) symbol to teleport to the same symbol on top of the helicopter
I don't know if this was supposed to be like a "follow along and solve with me" type of video, but it would have been nice if you had said something like "pause here if you want to solve it yourself" before saying the answer. Just would have been helpful to have a clear division between the explanation of the rules and the answer.
I guess, it was intended like that but I can understand not really seeing the separation. I think the separation is very obvious if I'm like looking at the puzzle 'for real' and trying to see what the trick is, and slowing down, but for the puzzles where I noticed it quickly there's almost nothing there lol
there's actually another solution, with the same concept on the first one. Go down from the start, all the way down. then push down the border. Done. Less moves :)
the last one probably wouldnt actually take you that much time because it took me like 3 minutes without any tools to find it (i am terrible with puzzles)
put box on 1, jump over to the left, remembet the planet is a perfectly spherical minor planet and therefore left edge loops to right, A and B can happily be together again

at 9:35, you push it to position 1. Here's the reason why: it's a planet. It's a circle
I actually saw the solution to the last one immediately. The goal was outside of the maze so I immediately started looking for another brake in the wall.
it's definitely interesting since the goal didn't "need" to be outside but it was a big hint to going that way :p

My solution for the penguin puzzle was the move the block under the fish, making it fall down where the penguin could get it normally.
For the phantom thief puzzle, if you can teleport that far away, you shouldn’t need a helicopter to escape 😂

for 1:35 i thought of taking a 3x3 section of the second platform (technically a singular black square) and bridging the gap

2nd puzzle doesn't limit how you move the black square, just move the square the penguin starts on and carry the penguin over to the goal.

9:00 - what is the solution for this one?
It goes in spot 1, since the planet is "perfectly shperical", escaping from the left is just as valid
my guess is 1, go to the stairs and then go around the planet (if it's 2d, and you can go around the crater if it's 3d)
its 3, theres a faint mark in the top right of the box if you look closely. its hard to see beacuse of the lower resolution though
In the rat one I considered the extra bit of shadow but assumed it was the shadow of the raised bit, due to perspective from the point source of light
