Thank you for sharing this clip. Her voice at age 48 here was not much different from that 13 years before at the Salzburg Festival -- simply amazing! What a great singer and actress!
I have just discovered this lovely voice Reri Grist. It's one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Thank you for this. If you have more videos of Ms. Grist please post. I'm a new fan.
How wonderful....I too am very glad to see more videos of Reri Grist on youtube. Also note how wonderful she sounds this late in her career. Such an incredible singer/actress.
She was my first Rosina in Barber and Gilda in Rigoletto - Vancouver early 60's. She still sounded lovely at age 75 singing 'Somewhere' from West Side Story - a role she created. It's on YT
Sopranos don't usually peak until their mid 40s (unless they damaged their voice through misuse). Film and tv has a lot to answer for, making everyone think that leading ladies should be no older than 25! There is such waste in the world of opera today because it has been infected by this point of view.
I have this kind of voice but I don't know how to classify it. Also, my speaking voice is quite low as opposed to Reri's high-pitched speaking voice, so I'm a bit confused.
An amazing voice, but extremely strange that she does not complete the final high scale up to E natural. I have never heard it simply omitted. I am wondering if she was sick at this particular performance, thus asked permission from Bohm to omit it, or whether she did the whole run this way.
In the 1967 performance she sang the high E, you can watch it on my channel. I guess she was not able to reach it easily at this later stage of her career, which is only natural. But honestly, to be able to sing with such a beautiful voice at age 48 is simply AMAZING!!! Love and respect for Reri Grist!
@skyhighsoprano I think that may vary with the exact type of voice--some types do seem to peak quite a bit earlier than that, possibly in the 26-32 range in cases. An elfin-lyric voice such as Grist's is so rare that reliable statistics may not even exist--I have heard only one other of the type (Judith Halasz.)
Boehm died in 1981 so if this production stems from 1989, there has to be another conductor. Judging from Reri Grist's appearance, it does seem to be "later".

Vocally, not quite up to her recording of a few decades earlier (my favorite), but still outstanding. She may have had the finest elfin-lyric voice ever recorded, yet there is very little of her on YT. This kind of voice is very rare--Judith Halász has the only other example I have ever heard.
Her voice is made of crystal, air, and golden rays if sunshine. I love her!
The flexibility of her voice at 48, it is just incredible.
I have a great respect to her.
Very stunning. Amazing performance....

My life has expanded. Happened upon this when I was looking for an opera piece to share with some high schoolers. What. A. Voice!
Such a gorgeous soprano! I love the light in the tone- the instrument shimmers without covering the vowels. Crystalline. I'm in love...
I assure you she “covers” her vowels

Wow. Just discovered her today and my goodness. What a voice!
yes, she was 48. she's only in her early 80s now. this is lovely. i adore her
Lovely! God created singers really💙
Isn't this divine? Wow....just love her sound- from another world, yes? Ethereal!
At the end of her career and sounding amazing, another testament to perfect career sustaining technique.
Welch eine zauberhafte Stimme !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMHO, the best Mozart-type soprano performer ever.
Beautiful!

Truly beautiful. Edita Gruberova was in the production.
Amen!!

Mozart, wat een geweldige componist. Helaas te jong gestorven op 35 jarige leeftijd.
The E in the final scale is written, not optional. :( still great voice

Disappointed that she didn't go up to the high E at the end of the song during the last run. Oh well still sounded beautiful
