Yey
Oh hell, with Cherry's comments about how "people like us were meant to be eaten" it's no wonder Strawberry reacted so badly to the protagonist telling her that strawberries were meant to be eaten back in Berrywitched. It's also probably where she got the idea to bake the protagonist into a pie in the worst endings.
And why she had her corpse baked into a cake in one of the bad endings
@@marytijerina9764 For that game I had thought it odd she had such a seemingly out of no where focus on baking herself into a cake. and it was not only one ending she planned to do such. but her trauma over the events in this game explains where she got the idea. It also does not leave a ton of doubt they actually are the same character.
Speaking of bad endings Manly commented on how getting the true ending before the bad endings is such a gut punch. now the creator goes and shows a backstory that she left from a traumatic situation vastly different from the one of that game. so brutal. I am getting the impression the creator really likes having their characters have their trauma hidden beneath the water. this game Cherry implies bad things happening to others and especially her family. and yet does not tell us any of what it was aside their parents died sustaining them.
I’ve been telling that to people since freshman year

Man Strawberry's trauma goes DEEP, poor thing
I was thinking on this. It did not make a lot of sense in the previous game why she chose cooking herself of all things. I think I now understand. the author tricked us.
Normally when a character does weird things you wonder if something happened in their past to lead to this. but with there already being a tragic backstory in that game to explain her behavior people figure we had got most the answer. when in reality we only had a small portion of it.

Oh my goodness, Thank you so so much for playing my game Cherrywitched! :D I haven’t watched the full video yet (wanted to comment a thank you first), but I did skip a bit to the end to hear your thoughts !
(SPOILERS)
Yes, this game is indeed a prequel! I actually made it in the hopes of explaining some more lore about the world in a fun way so it’s less confusing when I make the proper sequel, haha!
EDIT: I just finished the video haha!!! Absolutely loved it, even though I made the game watching you play it totally felt like a new experience that I wholeheartedly enjoyed!
Well lucky for you today
Great job with the game btw
You did well. Pretty cool game. ( you are a psycho as well lmao )
Ohoho, a proper sequel, you say? *rubs greedy little hands together*
Well done!
Also because I really loved this game, I feel the need to bring up something I feel like a lot of people miss. And that's that Cherry isn't crazy for "no reason". **Spoilers for the game if you haven't finished the video!**
It's established in the lore and even brought up a few times by Cherry herself that witches can prolong their lifespan by eating other witches. And that when witches of "lower importance" die, nobody cares unless they can be added onto the case of a "more important" witch that died. Cherry and her sister Strawberry are, for all intents and purposes, probably very low-importance witches. They aren't inventors or scientists(whatever science may consist of in this world!), they're just witches of cherries and strawberries. Meaning that in this world where witches eat other witches, they are probably some of the lowest on the food-chain.
When Cherry says "People like us are meant to be eaten", it's not just about them having a relationship to fruits, it's about how they are so low on the caste system of their society that they will probably inevitably be fed to "more important" witches to fuel their lifespans. It makes sense why Cherry would then turn to some mysterious "cult" that seems to promise her a spot higher up in the food chain. She doesn't want to live a life where she's just waiting until she can be eaten and used to prop up someone "more important" than herself.
It was never said anyone else ate witches. but one really would be skeptical that those in a position of authority would resist the temptation. especially when they can die deaths for all sorts of reasons. Also from the sounds of it the council members had pretty long lifespans..
Though actually keeping harvesting a mass amount of people would be difficult. and you would have to do it before they died.
Though that reminds me. the protagonist said there was a magical crisis. when a witch naturally dies their nuclei explodes releasing their magic around the area. brings up the question if that has been happening less.
@@phantom-ri2tg It's said that witches can consume other witches' nuclei, which I think implies the "eating" of other witches. It's also said that the power intake is addictive, perhaps as another reason as to why Cherry's so deeply lost in her madness
@@umanair2724 What point are you trying to make? For Cherry getting addicted yeah the video pretty non subtly said that.
@@phantom-ri2tg you said in your comment "it was never said anyone else ate witches". The person who replied was making the point of: yes, it was heavly implied
There also was something about erratic behaviour because of meat
I just realized how smart the "witches change their names" thing was, since Strawberry's old name was Lottie (you can see in the sisterly love ending). That let Cherry mention her without revealing the twist yet. Very clever plot point there.
(SPOILERS?)
The twist that they are just food in the food chain because their nuclei extend lifespans (thus being renamed to their power to soften the verbiage saying you are just eating a fruit as opposed to their name), or the twist that Lottie is Cherry from the other game?
Also man this lore is messed up, I'd like to see the cult & council overthrown from the sounds of it.
Reminds me a lot of oddworld tbh.
Considering what the counsel did to Strawberry in Berrywitched...
Cherry maybe had a point there. A *very* salient point there.
Like obviously being addicted to cannibalism didn't help, but abandoning such an already extremely traumatized girl in a fucking game-ending Forrest *without telling her* is...
Well, it seems like they just wanted her gone. As in *Gone* gone.
Like, that's just vile. No wonder Cherry doesn't trust the government.
It actually makes sense if they just wanted to get rid of her because of her connection to Cherry, I thought it was a little weird how they just sent her to an empty pocket dimension and assumed she could grant random travelers desires for who knows how long.
@@apertureAI-jw1iz It seems weird they would want her gone for her connection to Cherry. Cherry did not tell her what she was doing so unless there is another factor that just seems like it would be spiteful.
Regardless you two talking it does make it sound believable she was sent on a death sentence for some reason. though it could also have been less trying to get rid of her and more they just did not care what happened.
though. Cherry mentioned people disappearing. but she did not mention who made them disappear. We assume they were killed. but since again they disappeared that means we actually do not know what happened to them.
If I were to give a theory. it was mentioned that when a witch dies their nucleus explodes releasing their energy into the environment. but. what happens when a witch dies in a pocket dimension?
Pretty sure government was never mentioned.

...Why does Strawberry end up alone in berrywitched if Inquiry adopted her? 😰
Inquiry was old and Strawberry was just a little kid in this game. In Berrywitched, Strawberry is an adult in the human world
@@mochamanplays257The barrier keeping her from leaving is still a mystery though.
Maybe It's Another Strawberry? Manly Mentioned That Once.
I think a witch's specialty is unique, meaning only one can have a particular specialty in any given lifetime.
Also, it doesn't make sense from a storytelling perspective to have two characters from two related stories who's only difference in appearance is is their physical age (Unless the stories explicitly involve clones).
The yandere horror in this game feels so earned, and so right for the environment. The dev has really improved a whole lot. It also makes certain scenes from Berrywitched feel so harrowing in hindsight.... poor Strawberry.......
I love the foreshadowing to berrywitched in here. Strawberry’s idea to bake Leaf (the protagonist of berrywitched) into a cake, turn herself into a cake and throwing Leaf into an oven probably came from her older sister. Not to mention, her going into breakdown after seeing sentient beings such as her strawbunnies be eaten. I also like to think her interest in lemonade came from Lemon Witch, which is why she recommends the Strawberry lemonade to leaf in Berrywitched. After finding out her older sister killed lemon (I assume she’s probably been told eventually) and having her sister be arrested, you can imagine her abandonment issues in berrywitched. Seeing all of her friends die must be a horrible fate, not to mention the organization her mom (Inquiry) works at made Strawberry take on a task which took a toll on her mental state.
Oh my gosh, and the reason why she tells the strawbunnies to make her into something tasty is because she wants them to have her magical power and live longer! *cries*
THEIR NAME IS LEAF??
Explains why Strawberry goes mad when Manly says strawberries were meant to be eaten. She's having a flashback

the fact that cherry was capitalised made me think it was a name and made me wonder who tf turned me into a pie
Technically, it was a name
As soon as Strawberry came out of the oven, I knew who it was and immediately understood why she was so traumatized as an adult
Yo, I'm liking the whole detective angle with Inquiry here. It'd be neat to see a continuation with the Council and the Everlasting.
That title surely puts "yummy" ideas into my head. Surely following them won't make regret the whole ordeal.
Hmmm... 🤣🤣🤣
Interweb folks...
Cherrypie bout to become a creampie
What's wrong with experimenting
Its interesting how Cherry's Infatuation blends in with her addiction and bloody habits in the ending where you loose your legs (and maybe hands too)
She is heavily addicted to Witch meat, which already makes her like witch flesh quite alot, but with all her infatutation, she really finds Inquiry's legs to be more special and driven by addiction, she may take a hand or two more...
this is by far the worst ending for Inquiry, not only did she loose her limbs, but im pretty sure that the boundaries are starting to fade in even more on Cherry's head on that ending, she has no guarantees that Cherry wont come for seconds one day... be it because her infatuation gets completely twisted by her addictions or simply because she couldnt control her cravings...
There is some hints through the game indicating that Cherry don't fully have control of her actions. But it never really comes out into the plot.
A lot of things were hinted at but never shown. I am certain the author did it on purpose.
Weird how Cherry doesn’t seem to have the tragic lore Berry has. Wonder if we’ll get to experience more of her lore.
She said their parents used all their magic to keep them alive. It implies there is something there.
@@phantom-ri2tg And that she was basically raising her sister. Reading between the lines, it seems like both of them had difficulty getting energy (however that normally works) so Cherry turned to uglier methods to keep them alive.
I hate to be _that_ person, but to me it's telling what her first assumption to Inquiry hiding with Berry was.
@@mac533 fair point.
God, is probably because Strawberry was adopted by Inquiry that The council put her in that pocket dimention. i wonder if it had to do with the addictivenes of the witche's nuclei. The erratic manners of Cherry fit some of the ones of Strawberry in the first game. Good thing the creator is planing to do a proper sequel!
The author got a heck better with artstyle.
I wonder if Berrywitched will now get an update to accomodate the prequel...
But hey, now we know why she was so shocked why we non-canonically ate that berry bunny guy.
It reminded her of her past and ouch...that hits different now.
She took her older sister's place, tried to do everything better than her but circumstances almost led her the same wrong path as Cherry.
Totally fu**** up.
She was not on the same path as Cherry at all. The protagonist was not a witch so those bad endings was not to harvest them. and Cherry certainly did not want to make herself into a cake.
Honestly I thought the last art style looked much cleaner, it feels like they just started using this artstyle and haven’t had the time to clean it up just yet. Though as an artist myself I understand the want to test out new art styles all the time so I can’t fault her for it.
@@JinxeBlaq Cleaner does not mean better. Though personally I also say simpler is sometimes more.
I did not actually pay enough attention to the art style to have solid comments on the matter here though.
At least Strawberry ended up in a happier situation with the protagonist in her game.
Her hat sure does look like a butt and I think they could have come up with a less butt-like design for her hat relating to cherries 🤣
A butt or boobs 😆 Cherries aren't even perfectly round like that, could've just had th dimples in the top or the stalks.
Ah, yes, yandere lesbian witches. Truly the best combination.
I don't know why, but Cherry's dialogue when she finds Inquiry with her sister in the closet is really funny to me.

i also was wondering where the number came from

Another game idea: ScaryWitched.
It’s genuinely just a cute game where you hang out with a spooky looking witch that is secretly nice.
That would actually be a realy good sequal. Get away from the berry and fruit theme a little.
PLus depending on what determines a witch's strength. A with of scary things could be a prospective council level witch.
This one did mention the old council was getting old. So assuming new powerful witches replace them then that would be the setting.

I feel really bad for Strawberry. She's gone through so much and all she wants is to help people.
I love these classic games. Simple design, but lots of love put into the characters and world building, to the point you really wish there was more to it. VA's and RPG Maker should make a comeback.
classic? you do realize that this is a new game right?
Man I love Manly's voice acting
47:52 "WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87'???"
Gotta give props to Cherry, for a yandere, she does not hesitate to sacrifice her love to protect her sister. Even if she had the entire situation completely wrong. I wonder if there will be a touching reunion between the sisters in the sequel. Something tells me that Cherry hasn't seen her sister grow up, and while I wouldn't want Strawberry to end up in a cult... I wouldn't mind Cherry getting revenge on the people who caused her to have such a bad time out in that forest. I just... want a wholesome sister reunion... and for Inquiry to be ok also.
I really enjoyed this game and I'm excited to see what the sequel will have in store.
Brings whole new meaning to, "You're so cute, I could eat you all up!"

Strawberrys' sleeves, when her arms are up, look like strawberries. Nice touch.
Dang Cherry and Strawberry/Lottie both had bad childhoods, i feel like they were never evil but just wanted to help people.
Not Cherry though, she's being a bad sister to Strawberry. and that foreshadow of "People like us were meant to be eaten" though ._.'
I just realised something everything about strawberries Bakery has some remnants of what happened in her childhood for example her asking for a milkshake or some strawberry lemonade because she was thirsty whenever she was little or whenever she was talking about the bunny story or even like the really traumatic stuff in the other story it's all her reliving what happened to whenever she was younger but in a more optimistic state sorta she was trying to help others just like inquiry did her

having come back from watching berrywitched, having watched both, I think it's a very interesting concept behind it all, and I have some theories behind the deeper untold stories here. it really comes to mind when I see the story that I believe some of the things that are told, even from cherry. I wouldn't be surprised if the origin story for witches is true, and that through the eating of other witches, the witches can obtain their power and life. I really feel like this could explain a bit of the story of berrywitched, as we hear strawberry learning magic other than her own. I feel like from her childhood with cherry, where she was tricked into eating these pies, and was given the power of these witches, without her own knowledge. The addicting properties could be as a result of the combined souls of the ones they have eaten, compelling them to continue and unite, in a dark sense. like as the eater eats more of the witches, their souls become one, and more unified. It could also be explained as to why strawberry was put into the forest, unable to contact others. her additional powers could be a taboo, and she was sent off to be removed, and prevented others from getting the idea. of course, this is all speculation, but it is really interesting to think about to me.
I haven't played Berrywitched and I am planning to play this one later, and then Manly upload the full gameplay of it!!!
