Yvette Nicole Browns father did have health issues and was dying I believe, so they released her from her contract to stay with him. Jonathan Banks was busy on Better Call Saul at this time

Man, I adore Season 6. I feel like it really shows the strength of the show that you can lose some of the cast but still make strong episodes and provide some excellent characters. I love Frankie so much that I kinda wish she was in the show from Season 1, and obviously a certain upcoming character is gold too.
I really do hope Frankie, Hickey, and that upcoming character all return for the movie tbh

I started watching "Community" because of the Blindwave so my perspective is from binge watching the seasons and not knowing any of the behind the scenes casting stuff. I found this season extremely enjoyable and compared to other final seasons of other sitcom comedy shows it's one of my favorite final seasons.
Now this is a man who knows how to leave a comment!

Fun fact: bc they moved to yahoo this season, they also had to move to a different sound stage that had pillars in it. So Dan's solution to maintain continuity was to do an entire intro about how the cafeteria now needs pillars bc the roof collapsed from like 50 years of frisbees piling up on it. Absolute genius
I could never put my finger on why this season looked so different. I guess that's why.
@@milesparker557 Appearance-wise, the biggest difference imo is lighting. The lighting is really iffy this season, makes everything indoors actually look like sets.
@cheekyboomboom8973 I always thought it was a color grading thing, but I guess it's the lighting. Definitely a different vibe from the older seasons.
@@cheekyboomboom8973 on the contrary, the lighting in the study room actually seems more realistic. Instead of the overhead lighting, there is "natural" light coming in through the windows and it changes the whole aesthetic
Season 6 is really underrated. People criticise it for losing characters and feeling different but I'm grateful we got it and the season 5 ending wasn't the finale. I'll always be grateful to Yahoo for giving this show a chance to end properly even though they sacrificed themselves to do it. I also love how they let Gillian Jacobs go wild with Britta. Some people say she feels different but to me it always felt like she felt comfortable enough around her friends and didn't feel like she needed to mask anymore and was about to be herself

We lose Shirley and Hickey, but we gain some great characters too. Also no, Padget Brewster isn't playing the same character as before.

For those wondering: Yes, Frankie's actor was actually in a previous episode! It was the episode where Annie and Hicky get stuck in the red-tape involved in getting a cork-board. She was the IT-lady who put a porn-blocker on the janitor's network. If you remember Annie saying "EEEEVEEERYYYTHIIIING" in the most unhinged way, she was the one who asked how much porn should get through the blocker.
I could have sworn I remembered seeing her in the Meow Meow Beenz episode, but I guess not

Some of my all time favourite quotes come from this season. Frankie is a great addition and the Dean truly has some hilarious moments.

they're just almost verticle steps.
This has an actual answer. It's 50 degrees. Stairs are typically not that steep, though. Public stairs are usually no more than 30 degrees. Residential stairs are generally 30-40. Basement stairs in a house might be steeper than that. But above 50 degrees it's a ladder.
Never.
Ladders are free standing objects (usually) that can be used as and where they are needed.
Steps/stairs are parts of a building or structure.

@@Tao_Tology Absolutely no requirement or suggestion that a ladder has to be moveable. It’s based on the angle and angle alone. Plenty of stairs are moveable. Plenty of ladders are fixed in place. But you can tell the difference based on their angle of ascent.
The end gags this season is amazing!

The reason they did the whole frisbee roof collapse was because they had to change sets (this season the show was cancelled by NBC and picked up by....Yahoo) so they needed to justify why the cafeteria now has support beams

Season 6 is my favourite, there’s something raw about it. It’s unintentionally claustrophobic due to filming conditions but it adds a sense of fitting discomfort.
It feels like you’re with an old friend group, in the back of your head knowing times are changing, people have come and gone, and your best days are long over. But those last days are some of the most special because of that.

This was the season that I totally didn't see when it aired on Yahoo and I was so pleasantly surprised when I found a DVD set of Season 6 in 2018. It brought my love of the show back after I'd dropped off during Season 5's original air dates.

Piaget Brewster WAS in the show before! She was the (unnamed) tech support lady in season 5 that Annie yells "EVVVERYYYBODDDYYYYY" to, in the episode where they're trying to hang up the bulletin board!
Frankie is a different character. Which, amazingly, will become clear later.

The great thing about this show is that the quality is more or less consistent throughout, some of my favourite episodes are in season 6 like the VR episode 😂
They clearly had so much fun with this episode but when it ended seemed dejected about Troy and Shirley not being in it, I hope they're able to just enjoy themselves with the rest of the season

Amidst all this talk of Paget Brewster, anyone who hasn't already done so MUST watch/listen to/experience/grok her appearances as Sadie Doyle in the Thrilling Adventure Hour.
Anything above 50 degrees, stairs become a ladder.
This season was filmed in a different location and the space where they built the cafeteria set had load-bearing beams they couldn't shoot around.
So the whole frisbee destroying the roof thing was a way to explain the existence of these beams that you'll see the rest of the season.
So looking forward to the next episode.
Can’t wait for some great moments this season, and interested to see what they think of the new cast members.
Season 5 was basically saved by funding from Subway, hence why most eps that season had samdwichs storylines and Subway product placement throughout. Season 6 was not going to happen but was saved by Yahoo where the show went to Yahoo''s now abandoned Yahoo TV service. I'm pretty sure it was a last ditch effort as it clearly has a much reduced budget than before, but still has some of the funniest moments.
The actors for Shirley as already mentioned didn't return, as well as Mike, I'm not sure why he didn't, proba ly busy with Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul, but don't worry. one of Eric's favourite actors (and legend) is brought in instead...
This season is right up there with the first 3, it's so good

I love the way they use Paget Brewster on this show. The character of Frankie is one of my favorites, and the call-back to the IT lady is pure gold!

What's the running joke: Community season 6, the tv show that "allegedly" caused Yahoo Screening to implode. 🤣
This season is a mixed bag. It's definitely the most experimental (for better or for worse), but it still has really high highs. The wedding episode is still one of my favorites. Frankie (and Elroy later) are great additions to the show.
The biggest hurdle to get over is just how different it is, considering 3 out of the original 7 main cast are gone, the different sets, and also how Dan Harmon's style had changed.
The season 6 ending scenes are the best.
For all us Community fanatics back in the day, this 6th season was such an awesome, unexpected gift. Britta's "Don't make it more dramatic than it is. It's a blood oath to defy evil." quote is one of my favorite lines in the entire series.
Yvette (Shirley) did leave the show because she was taking care of a sick family member (her father I think) and the schedule for a single camera show like this means lots of long days. She went on to act in the Odd Couple reboot with Matthew Perry, since it was a lot less work schedule wise
Paget Brewster was in the 5th season episode where Annie is making deals to get the Bulliten board put back up. She is IT director Annie goes to get the porn blocker taken down for Nathan Fillion...

My school had a game of dodgeball that was called Jedi. If you got hit the Jedi could come out and save you by hitting you with their “lightsaber”(pool noddle) and the goal was to try and get out the other teams Jedi then wipe out the rest of the team

Paget Brewster played the IT person in one episode, the one where they were bartering favours with the janitors & custodians - in order to get a bulletin board installed, IIRC. The gang wanted to trade lifting the porn filter from their network.
This season is less references and more about the idea of what makes a show. It’s stripped down intensionally. I recommend thinking of it as a very different show, but one that is very well written. It doesn’t need to be compared to the earlier seasons because it’s not trying to accomplish the same things.
Calvin should have mentioned to you guys that this season was done by Yahoo.
She was the one with the power to remove the pornblocker for the custodians in the s5 bulletin board episode (with the perfect robert patrick cameo)
Frankie played the IT lady in the episode about the janitors wanting porn unblocked on their computers. There is a pretty incredible meta joke about her being recast in a different role at some point in this season

she was the IT Lady to where Annie and Hickey was trying to get the porn blocker bit. in future episode, dean made frankie call the IT guys buy there was only static and noise and horror vibe coz it was meta for her char calling her other character.
This isn't my favorite season but Frankie IS my favorite character.

Season 6 is sneaky underrated.. I feel like most people say season 4 and 6 are the worst but I like season 6 a lot. Yeah it’s not the same without Pearce, Troy and Shirley but we gain some new characters and more Dean and more Chang is always a good idea! ❤ the finale

Somehow this season goes the hardest! the only reason I feel sour about it is because the original cast would’ve made this season legendary. still one of the best!! Also❤️KD jr. he would’ve been a great replacement for Chevy early on IMO.
