- Christopher Eccleston and Ricky Tomlinson star in the BAFTA-winning ITV drama HILLSBOROUGH (12), released by Network DVD on 7th September 2009, RRP £15.99. It is available for the first time in any format.
The DVD comes 20 years after the tragedy and in the wake of this governments decision to release official documents relating to the disaster.
Written by Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, The Street), HILLSBOROUGH is an emotionally powerful and highly acclaimed dramatisation of personal grief and public issues in the wake of the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster, where 96 Liverpool FC fans were crushed to death at a FA cup semi-final match against Nottingham Forest.
Following the stories of three victims families, from the initial excitement of match day to the legal battles that followed the tragedy, Hillsborough presents a raw, honest portrayal of the campaign for truth within a culture of closed ranks and cover-ups.
The drama also seeks to dismantle damaging lies regarding fans conduct, perpetuated by sections of the popular press and seen by McGovern and others as symptomatic of an ongoing vilification of the working class within the British media.
Initially broadcasted in 1996, Hillsborough won countless awards, including a BAFTA for Best Single Drama and the Writers Guild of Great Britain award for Best TV Play.
The impact of Hillsborough is considered an important factor in the setting up of an official inquiry into the disaster and the way football matches are policed today. - Фільми й анімація
I am a Wednesday fan and it breaks my heart that such a horrific tragedy took place at my team's home ground. Watching this made me ashamed to be from Sheffield, and it makes me sick to my stomach that the Police tried to blame their failings on an entire community who were in unimaginable suffering - suffering the Police themselves had caused!
Why the hell did it take 23 years for the truth to come out?
RIP to the 96 - You'll Never Walk Alone
I've always said same. I'm also from Sheffield and a Wednesday fan myself and I'm also ashamed and embarrassed to be from this city, the city that put blame on the ppl who were already suffering after what happened
Am a scouser through and through don’t be ashamed to come from Sheffield it’s your home town good and bad things happen in every city James Bulger was killed in Liverpool by scousers
@@alexiasummer7475well said.
Oh God..watched this hell unfold live ..as it happened on Tv all those years ago. It gets no easier to watch. Never forgotten.
None of those 96 needed to have died. My heart aches for them and their families, even now. +
Justice for the 96 - Celtic fan.
You'll Never Walk Alone
I remember watching this film, and it was hard fighting back tears. Justice for the 96
A tough watch
RIP the 96 innocents JFT 96 and YNWA from a Manchester United fan
So sorry for the families losing their loved ones this day , and even worse the images of their loved ones how they died . my Thoughts go out to you all. this horrible disaster which stems from a practical joke made by some police that were set to do this match but were sacked and left Duckenfield in charge. some fans were impatient yes , police opened gate they knew was going to cause at least a lot of discomfort for a pen that was incredibly packed. Then the factors of why they were penned off in sections. Never know why a Tannoy speaker was not announced to delay game once police were unsure and panic stricken - bad management causes confusion, breakdowns and in this case carnage
It's been taken down. Obviously someone doesn't want to be held accountable for their actions. This film tells the damn truth.
Yeah my thoughts exactly
fantastic.
that was good 2
I watched this on Sunday night its awful lasted 40 minutes had to turn it off was crying like a baby
"Shut your fucking prattle?" I hope the real Police officer didn't speak to the real Trevor Hicks like that.
He did, unfortunately. Shows you the mindset of the majority of the police that day.

Well I expect to hear that type of language from a dictator but not from the law.
He actually did say that…WANKER policeman….I hope he has nightmares every night he goes to sleep if he’s still alive
@Ebeneeza That cop? Agreed.
@jonesylad3 kenn then replied "then i cannot help you"
the TRUTH. JFT96
england is beautiful in so many ways.
JFT 96
All this excitement over a game of kicking a ball around.
Some say football is a matter of life and death, I can assure you it's much more important than that
@Mikeb1001 Well said mate, I can't stand the Munich songs either for the same reason. Footballing rivalries aren't bigger than compassion for loss.
JohnTerryLegend26 you are sick. How disrespectful to those who lost their lives and to their families.
