Superb, otherworldly, both singing and acting! I agree with Gerardsatamian, she is both UTTERLY EXPRESSIVE and UNIQUE, among today's singers, at least.

@chengducat Hvostovky is a king. Not only he sings superbly, he´s very goodlooking and has kingly manners and attitudes.

@frufruJ The mere fact that Netrebko is performing and is popular does not necessarily imply that she is great. However, I will not offend her... As for Radvanovsky, I think she is a new hope for the operatic world, after so many years. SHE is GREAT for me!

@corellithebest I don't like Netrebko either, as I said, but many people who actually do know something about singing (I mean, as opposed to those supposedly affected by the hype, these are musicians themselves and know many singers) DO like her voice. You can't say it's because of her being over-promoted, really. If they like her, you can't take it from them, and that's what makes her great from the artistic POV, IMO.
However, 100% agreed on Radvanovsky. Heard her @ROH, was great :-)
I am aware that there are really well-informed people who like Netrebko, and I don't blame them, I respect their opinion, as long as they do not insult other true artists. But on the other hand, there are people who like someone only because s/he is popular and widely promoted, whereas many superb artists from the past (I call it Golden Age of Opera), have sunken into almost complete obscurity (Leyla Gencer, Bruno Prevedi, Anita Cerquetti, Ilva Ligabue, Caterina Mancini), Magda Olivero) etc. :)

@frufruJ i am not a fan of Netrebko, but i liked her for example:-) Micaela. yes, i don´t go criticize singers i don´t like much. i prefer praising my favourites:-)))

La veu d'ella em sona com que vibra. Potser és la grabació, però no m'acaba d'agradar.
grande interpretazione di Dima e qui siamo in concerto.... non si può che immaginarlo cantare questo ruolo in un vero Ballo in maschera con costumi e scene . la Sondra non mi è mai piaciuta per il suo non gradevole colore di voce, e il suo canto è discutibile per via della sempre incerta e approssimativa intonazione . il suo gusto nel cantare non trasferisce emozioni di sorta.
A me piacciono tutti e due. Lei non ha un bellissimo colore, è vero, ma è molto espressiva e potente. Comunque è più caristico Dima. Senza dubbio. Però sono due voci che si sposano bene per intensità e bravura scenica.....
You know, my personal opinion is that, you can't honestly call anybody "up there" *bad*. They might not be your cup of tea. I don't like Netrebko, for instance, I don't know why; but you don't see me commenting under her clips on how bad she is. She's not bad, if she were, she wouldn't be even singing after several years - she's great! I simply can't get rid of the feeling that some people are just ventilating their complexes here... What do you think?
I absolutely agree with you. It is interesting that none of the great sopranos who people always say they are "defending" would have made such criticism. Even Callas, who perhaps was foolish in changing her remark about Tebaldi [too bad she did not leave it at that is like comparing "champagne with cognac"[ did not directly attack other singers. If we could limit our discussion to two aspects that combine to contribute to the persistence of opera [what those who listen respond to in the INDIVIDUAL singer and in the composer and what the different positive perceptions and skills the INDIVIDUAL singer brings to a role, a specific performance, or a technique then we would all be contributing to the expansion of opera rather than our own egos.
