Red was the color given to Italy at the beginning of of Grand Prix racing. The British were given green aka British Racing Green.
The time it takes to start a Ducati may be because of the longer stroke of a twin cylinder engine compared to a four cylinder.

Some Italian motorcycles take longer to start because the ECU is set to have correct oil pressure, you turn the key, push the button and those few seconds are used to bring oil to pressure, in some Italian motorcycles it is normal because the engines are V-shaped, or more correctly L-shaped, also in MV Agusta and Aprilia they use this system, it is to prevent damage, when tolerances are low it is better to have good lubrication, in racing cars or motorcycles race it is normal, you run the engine without turning it on to bring the oil pressure to an optimal range and in the end fire

If you want great Italian names start digging into Moto Guzzi. Breva is a southerly wind that flows over Lake of Como. Griso was the name of an Alessandro Manzoni's 'The Bethrothed' character. He was a monster.

Being Italian, I liked this video very much. About the colour, many will say "Red" was the colour for of Italian racing car until when there was a colour code by nation ("Blue" for France, "Green" for England, "white with blue stripes" for US, etc.), but the reality is that we love to show off, and red is the better colour to do it! The starting delay is true, but I do not know why, until they swich on it is OK. The naming thing, I think it is related to humanize the bike, make "her" part of your family.

Italian motorcycles are red for the same reason Ferrari's are red; it's the official racing color of Italy

    I still own and ride a 1979 Moto Guzzi LeMans 2 and a 1981 Spada, plus a 1981 V-50 Monza, now with a 750 engine in it.

Did you know that Italians prefer the BMW GS over their own bikes... this is one of the craziest things but unfortunately the truth.

Ist not preference it is because bmw is cheaper. But if you want a perfect bike with the perfect sound you must have a ducati.
All the rest will always be less

The longer to start issue, I have a theory it's probably the way the engine firing order is for v4 engines, and even the r1 I had has a crossplane firing order identical to v4 engines and always took a couple seconds longer, I could be completely off

Probably wait to get oil in them, than to start dry is a guess or their starter motors turn slower to allow more oil to reach motor before firing. This is a complete guess, but sounds logical to me.

My Ducati 600SS won’t go into neutral with the engine running, at a standstill. Surprising, really. I would have thought the Italians were good with Neutrals.

If I may say it ,, red is the colour of sexual attraction .... this is not what Italian say, it's to do with the history and social conditioning of all human beings. Thus, bikes need to be red because they need to be sexy. That's it in a nutshell.
