And those terrorists were boy scouts compared to their successors.

We can listen and watch as much music and films from all over the world whenever we want for a month for about an hour's wage in many countries. The US has made some milestone strides in equality, including its first black president. The world is safer with less violent conflicts and on average people live much richer and longer lives.
I know this is just a silly comment, but humans have this strong tendency to not want to believe that things are getting better all over the world and that the future is bright and will be brighter. We almost *want* to be miserable.

Yes, for the 3rd world and for minorities this is a better time to live. But for the average citizen in the developed world, things got worse. After the collapse of the Soviet Union there was a geopolitical chill time, with only some little fires here and there (from a western perspective). And the winding down cold war spending combined with the large new markets opening up behind the former Iron Curtain created a decade of prosperity. So much that the US government had a budget surplus from '98 to '01. That would be unthinkable today.
With no social media and just starting cable news, people weren't fighting about everything all the time.
I was old enough in the 90's to get a good feel of the state of the world, and it was pretty chill, the problems weren't all felt existential threats like today. One looming issue was climate change, but even that was somewhat theoretical, not everyday life like today.
As for violence, maybe technically more people died in wars and from crime, but those were well contained conflicts far away. Today it's next door, affecting our everyday life, and threatening to start WW3.
The 2020's are especially not chill. We've got a pandemic, major political unrest in the US, a global supply chain collapse, insurrection in the US, runaway inflation, a major war in Europe, and now a brand new financial crisis.
I can't think of anything in the 90's that comes close to these. There was a war in Yugoslavia, which was very close to us, and affected people we knew, but it was still an isolated conflict, we never felt threatened, even living less then 10 miles from the border, and occasionally hearing the bombs.
Despite of this, I'm optimistic about the future. If we manage to hold on just a bit longer, we could see unimaginable peace and prosperity with the help of AI and robots. But there are also ways for this to end horribly, starting with the very real possibility of WW3. We have a double chance for that, first with Russia, then with China.

I love this series, and I think the fact that it has a continuing story to it is great.
I also noticed at the beginning of this episode that the year was 1997, now I'm not entirely sure if he started it 2 years ago but I think the 1st ever episode was set in 1995, so well done for pushing the story forward. Hopefully if this series continues for long enough we might get an episode where they're forced to change the name to the 00s Talk Show😆

Ryan George is an absolute comedic genius whose presence in the world of entertainment is invaluable. Without his infectious humor and creative content, life would be dull and dreary, devoid of the joy and laughter that he so effortlessly brings to our screens.

I asked bing's ai to write a comment for this video, and it said this:
Wow, this video was hilarious! I loved how the 90s time traveler reacted to all the AI technology we have today. He was so confused and amazed by everything, especially the voice assistants and self-driving cars. It was like he entered a sci-fi movie. I also liked how he tried to blend in with the modern culture, but failed miserably. His references to old movies and music were so out of date. And his fashion sense was super easy, barely an inconvenience to spot.😂
This video made me appreciate how far we have come with AI and how much it has changed our lives. It also made me nostalgic for the 90s and the simpler times. I wonder what the time traveler would think of Bing search? Maybe he would be blown away by how fast and accurate it is. Or maybe he would be scared of how much it knows about him.🤔
Anyway, great video! I hope you make more like this. You have a new subscriber!👍
