Darth Maul, the saddest of all the sith, maul was a victim who became a monster. I fully believe maul had the potential to become good, the novels and books, along with the comics tell of a side of maul the movies don't tell, lightly touched in rebels and the clone wars, but he became what he did through love, like Vader but more so. He had all the capability to return to the light, and be more then most of the jedi could have ever hoped for.
Maul might not be on the level of Vader, but Cal Kestis and Maul are two totally different levels of power lol. It would be more like Ahsoka vs Vader but Maul legit trying to kill him fighting how he does. He'd still lose but it would be nasty.

Fun Fact: When writing the season 2 finale to Star Wars Rebels, they were originally gonna have a fight between Vader and Maul, and Vader would’ve killed him, but they decided to discard that so that they could keep Maul for another season
Maul is a zabrak he is physically very strong so in some of these situations maul wouldn't be beaten so badly he is also a good duelist and force user I don't think Vader would find it that easy to be him
