  • Got a new camera and decided to test it out and show my current pedal board configuration. I am running a Fender Marcus Miller 4 out of my board into a Tascam 1082 Fire Wire interface. These are live settings I use with my band.

    @Blacksadback Cool! It goes like this Bass>Tuner>Compressor>Fuzz>VT BASS input "A">VT BASS Effects loop Send>Chorus>Flanger>Delay>Sonic Maximizer>VT BASS Effects loop return>VT BASS 1/4"\XLR out>Amp\FOH. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    it's the first video that shows a clean setting of the VT Bass that sounds really good. it harmonizes very vell with the JB. The BB Optostomp also sounds very cool, so does the the fuzz. very cool demo, thanks for sharing. i really need a vt bass deluxe now. :-)

    Hey Keith, just wanted to tank u for introducing me to 3 of my favorites pedals
    on my board now and they are the 2 sonic stomps & the VT bass I know u have the deluxe version but due to economical difficulties I settled for the small version for now. I keep the compressor & the vt bass ON all the time and the maximizer I use mostly for when I need to boost or give my sound a lift, anyways
    thanks a bunch bro!!

    @53R I use the tuner as a line buffer into the compressor first so I can get a nice even signal throughout the entire signal chain. Its not right or wrong, just works best for me and alot of other people too.

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @53R I have 2 basses that I play, both Fender, one is a 75 Japanese reissue, the other a Marcus Miller signature. I set them both up and maintain them myself. I have great string volume across the entire range of both basses. There is really no need for the compressor in a DI setting, however live it tames my Avatar 212 Neo by tightening up the bottom. Simple and effective, inexpensive and essential live (for me at least). Never used the MXR but it does look cool!

    I have the VT Stand alone pedal, will be switching to the deluxe soon. Took me a while to figure out the Sansamp Bass Driver just isn't for me. So much easier to get a good sound out of the VT.

    I like how you use the drive on the VT very subtly for your main tones. A lot of folks max it out and wonder why they get so much noise.

    @chemicalx420 thank you so much! im not really looking to alter my tone (in fact i rather like my rigg the way it is.) i just want to even everything out, i do a lot double stops, chords and slapping and i just wanted to make sure everything comes through correctly.

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @chjohnst Yeah. Here it is going direct into the board and no other instuments around it. Unless you dime the level, drums, guitar, vocals and a sequencer drown it out some. More of a low end cut, but that is with almost all fuzz\distortion effects on bass.

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @DReidGuitars In this vid I am running straight DI out of the VT Bass into my board. I do have a Tech 21 LandMark 300 I run through to a Tech 21 B410 that I rehearse with. I also have a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 running through a Avatar Neo 212 (4 ohm) for my live rig.

    Hey VT bass owners, I use all the time!

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @squiresuzuki Actually no. There is no right or wrong way to order effects, it is all in what you the player likes. I basically followed the effect chain of my favorite bass players and how their chains are set up. I gig more than I practice or rehearse (not enough time to play around with effect order) so this setup seems to fit my needs in a live band setting just perfectly. Hope that helps.

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @dodgeviperman Actually it all depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Are you interested in dirt, modulation or preamp sounds? Are you in a gigging band or just playing along to recordings in your bedroom? What genre of music are you primarily playing and what if any effects are the bassists in those bands playing? If I had to suggest one pedal to get it would be a Tech 21 Sansamp or VT Bass to start with nice tubey OD sounds. Just my opinion, nothing solid.

    Most distortion pedals have high-pass filters on the input and output, to remove any DC offset. However, they use the smallest (cheapest) capacitor they can get away with. If you double the value of the input and output capacitors, you move their knee frequencies down by one octave, letting an additional low octave pass through the filter unaffected. For example, a 22 nF capacitor could be replaced with a 47 nF capacitor, or a 47 with a 100.

    As you suggested me, i´m here checking out your new set up :) I have a question regarding that compressor. What´s your experience with that one?, i can see you stayed with it (judging for your previous pedalboard) so i suppose you like it. I like the MXR M87 but i think there are too many knobs for a pedal size compressor, have you use it?, why you stayed with the opto stomp?, it calls my attention because it keeps things simple and i like it. Please, let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

    Hello Keith! Thanks for your useful demo, by far one of the best sounds I have ever heard plugged directly into Sound Interface.
    Every other distorted bass sounds I heard plugged to Interface/D.I. box were terrible, sounded ike a saw. Is it because VT Bass deluxe has some kind of speaker emulation? Or did you use some kind of cabinet simulator software?
    I am curious of what kind of sound VT Bass Deluxe is able to deliver directly to mixing board.
    Thanks in advance

    Hey man! Congrats, you have a OMG-sound right there! Just one question. Is it possible to use the FX loop of this VT Deluxe but without activating any bank per se? I mean, if I want to use the FX chain without any bank in mode ON. Hope you can help me with that. Thanks pal!

    • @KeithCamplin

    Hi man,
    Can we use a digital pedal like a Zoom B3N along with the VT Bass?
    Without affecting the tones of the VT?
    Like I have three pedals as of now and I want to use them all in a one chain.
    Darkglass - Alpha Omega Ultra
    Tech 21- VT bass Deluxe
    Zoom - B3N

      Bajaj Bass
      Unfortunately I wouldn’t know, but you can always give it a shot and see how you like it.
      My board has changed now due to me using tube amps more frequently so I bought a Lehle D looper. It has the capabilities of running parallel/series loops to take out any pedal you choose to keep your signal clean and unaffected by other stomp boxes.
      It’s not a cheap option and there are others out there but it works and works well.

    Nice video man!
    I also have a Marcus Miller IV and I am planning to buy a VT Bass Deluxe or a Bass Driver DI Deluxe, because the Marcus doesn't really cut through the mix.
    What are your settings on the Marcus and on the VT Bass Deluxe to cut through the mix the most? Are you using the Marcus' preamp? And can the VT Bass deluxe produce a good slap sound? Thank you :)

    • @KeithCamplin
      @KeithCamplin  10 років тому

      Well I swapped the pick ups in the Marcus to a AVRI 75 Jazz Set, and I also true bypassed wired the active/passive switch. I run the Marcus full on in passive mode only. My settings on the Vt bass are Bank B #1 Drive = Ten Oclock Character = Ten Oclock Low = One Oclock Mid = 2 Oclock High = Ten Oclock Level = Ten Oclock. Never slap anymore, I play in a Foo Fighter tribute band, but I never have an issue cutting through with 3 guitars and loud drummer. My Genz Benz ShuttleMax 9.2 helps too.

  • @KeithCamplin
    @KeithCamplin  12 років тому

    @henry12350 I think you will be happy with it if your goal in tone is a very transparent compressor sound. Even though my basses are set up properly I always leave it on for a nice sustaining\leveling effect. I do believe however that there is a slight difference between the newer and older version (like mine) of the pedal. If you haven’t already try searching on the Talkbass forums to see the difference. wwwdottalkbassdotcom. Enjoy!

  • @rafsnchz
    @rafsnchz 7 років тому

    Hi! Just wanted to ask you, do you plug all of your pedals in to fx send/return? or your tuner and opto comp goes it to the input of the pedal? Sorry I missed that point.

    • @KeithCamplin
      @KeithCamplin  7 років тому

      All of the pedals (stomp boxes) in this video go straight through to the amps input. Rack mount effects are usually ran through the amps effects send/return for impedance matching.

    • @rafsnchz
      @rafsnchz 7 років тому

      I'm sorry, I mean all of your pedals go thru VT Bass Deluxe's fx send/return? or you plug some of them to regular VT Bass input?

    • @KeithCamplin
      @KeithCamplin  7 років тому +1

      Ok, I see now. The modulation effects and the Sonic Stomp go through the VT effects loop.
      Reason being is that puts the chorus, flanger, delay and sonic stomp after the VT bass. It also is useful to get all the effects through to the board in the VT DI out.
      Hope that helps.

      All my money for effects come from my gigs. I am fortunate enough to be a paid gigging musician.
      Going at a video with no metronome or backing track leaves you open for timing and flubbed note issues.
      I am by no means a great talented bass player, nor do I really strive to be. All in fun. I have however uploaded some other videos of me playing against backing tracks where my timing is a little bit more on par.
