Been a self-learner, so I find this a treasure. There's other nice tutorials, but they might have not understand why they do what they did themselves, hence the lack of answers as to why they insists on a set of rules/methods. You're literally a savior to me!
Saved by this too! You have no idea how this is so helpful to many retouchers because the others offer only the superficial and not really about targetted towards photographers and retouchers. This is such a treasure! Thank you PTC
I'm a newbie to photoshop and I bet I've watched twenty different videos on this topic and this is by far the best I've seen. It's both comprehensive and to the point/efficient in its presentation. And at the same time, you take the time to make sure we know how to find all the commands/windows/panels/workspaces which is very helpful for a newbie.

Photoshop Training Channel thanks for the brushes, and iv signed up the free news letter and tutorials email list, I look forward to getting lots more free tips from you, very helpful, as I'm new to photoshop, had the 2018 cc version for about 4 months, but I'm getting there, I know understand layer masks, and even more so after this tutorial, best explanation iv listened to, and iv never end used the other tools in select and mask area, but I will use them now, Infact I'm trying my new tips from this video as we speak !! So thank you ! Keep these videos coming, I would like tips on making some kind of selfie frame fir kids that can be out round there photo , for a gift for there step dad, any ideas welcome, I'm thinking the Polaroid frame, then colour it in with a gradient or something like that, what do you think ? If u have a better idea, let me know x
I had a basic understanding of layer masks but this tutorial took it to a whole new level. I'm going to have to watch this several times to grasp the last several minutes. Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials and explaining in such a clear manner.
Honestly, I've lost count of the amount of hair masking tutorials I've watched... I've learned so much over the years, but this is the best video on UA-cam I've seen. Like others, I've had to watch several times, and I still need to work more at refining my skills to fix things post shoot. Thank you SO much for taking the time to provide this free resource. I'm indebted to you!
Watched this after a dozen tutorials, and even thought this is from 3 years back, I feel it's the best one! Great job, and thank you for dished out the truth about sometimes having to go in there and getting our hands dirty! Many thanks
I've looked at hundreds of such tutorials . . . you are on the short list of "The Best". Thank you for getting to the important points and actually "teach" something - Well Done!
These are freemium tutorials. I bought the subscription of Phlearn pro tutorials and after watching this I realize you are teaching us very much for free. Respect and love for your
Holy s..... This is amazing! I have been using the quick mask, quick selection for quite some time. The first half of the video which explained the select and mask workspace was amazing. I have scoured so many places and no one has been able to explain it like Jésus does. I love it! Keep up all the amazing work! All very much appreciated!!
This is the best training channle for photoshop in youtube,cz this guy is officially with the adobe team..i am seeing video everyday from this channle and learning faster..thanks Jesús Ramirez from Dhaka
Wow!! What's there to say? Finally a tutorial that actually tells that sometimes all the technical "gadgets" in fantastic Photoshop just isn't enough... you sometimes have to do it the old fashion manual way... That is really helpful. When Mr Magic Ramirez shows us tips and tricks it's always easy to follow even complicated tasks... That is what's usually is called great talent... And that Jesús, you damn right have tons of !! 👏👏
i just found your channel today and i love it so much. your videos are so helpful, alot of photoshop tutorials ive seen are hard to follow, but your so good at explaining in a way that i can understand too. keep making amazing videos!
Wow...this is only my second tutorial and, I'll admit that I was lost & floundering trying to grasp so much new information in the first tutorial of 'Removing anything'. NOW all the pennies are dropping in regard to masks, layers, etc and basically navigating through the myriad of tools and menu options. Great work Jesus & thank you.
around 11:39'ish you say reduce transparency to zero. Transparency of what and how did you do it. When I follow your steps precisely and paint I just get the whole solid color, not restricted to any hair.
Fantastic as always, Jesus. I especially liked the technique of "burning" to reduce halos. Many thanks for sharing your skills and for ALL you do. Semper Fi Vinny
Jesus, I consider myself fairly advanced with Photoshop, but I have never seen such a good visual explanation of this - and have NEVER seen the color part explained! Still learning, thanks so much. Keep 'em coming. In fact, really enjoyed your 3D tuts (especially the Pokemon ball), too, please continue those.
I love this tutorial. I have been using Photoshop for years (even compositing) and despite that, I sometimes get confused on where masks end up and how you copy them to their own layers. I really don't know why, because I use them constantly. It's just that I seem to forget a couple basics and find myself floundering around. This tutorial goes through all the basics at a great pace, puts it all together for me and then I am good to go again for awhile.
How do I get this treatment? don't change the background, but how are these photos processed in the beginning? You are the best! I want to learn the same style
Jesus, you have a wealth of information and knowledge. Thank you for all you do making this process somewhat understandable, but all of the instructors I have viewed leave out a very important part for me. When you go to teaching about masks and changing backgrounds, you never explain how you have two different photos in the workspace at the same time. That is where I get lost. Please explain how to have the same starting point? Thank you!
You continue to be outstanding in your field. Concise and incredibly easy to follow. I never have a question about what you are teaching. One question I do have is, can/do you ever (is it possible to) use an iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil to accomplish lots of what you do? I also used a Wacom tablet to edit but wonder if the iPad Pro could be a game changer. I'm guessing the Apple Pencil doesn't have Wacom-like technology and especially the software to match. I'd love to shrink what I do to an iPad Pro. Thank you!
This was brilliant. I'm very new to Ps, and I feel like I understood this. You explained it really well. Including the keyboard shortcuts is really helpful too. Thank you.
Love the way you explain everything, incredibly concise. Every photoshop user ought to check this out. Really helpful tutorial. Thank you, keep up the brilliant work!
I think you have improved you presentation which helps more of us at lower levels.. I appreciate you having slowed down... and enunciated... just a bit... and your attention to definitions and parameters being even more orderly and educational... IMO it is very noticable... for me it is a FANTASTIC Help...I have the feeling you re-did this "lesson" very conciously... to improve your work. Forgive my assumption... Hoewever with your work being of THIS HIGH of Caliber... I wanted to give you feed back... I've watched you do this in a previous video (which showed you super know your stuff... but your presentation was too advanced with too many assumptions for my level ) So please know this is beautifully presented. Thank you!
(22:42) i'm not sure if this shortcut still works, but you used to be able to just press D on the keyboard to reset your foreground/background colors to black and white (or it might only change the foreground color to black-it's been awhile since i last used PS).
Another excellent tutorial from Jesus. Especially useful as compositing videos often show the ideal rather than the real world challenges which this video tackles.
the amount of details and different use cases are insane, really shows his years of experience. thanks G

I’m stopping part way through to say the first few minutes are the greatest explanation of layer masks I’ve ever found.
I'm a newbie to photoshop and I bet I've watched twenty different videos on this topic and this is by far the best I've seen. It's both comprehensive and to the point/efficient in its presentation. The best video I have ever found on masking hair. Wow. So many parts. I want to watch it over and over to lean every step.

I've seen many tutorials do a bad job of explaining how a layer mask works but yours is great 👍
Thank you!!!

Wow! Using dodge & burn tool for correcting mask - it's genius!
Thank you, Владимир!
Sometimes on difficult areas it helps to both burn and blur, and repeat...
Excellent tutorial well explained with simple English. Thanks for your support.
You're welcome, Mario!

Habit. Been doing it that way for 15+ years
Seen a lot of hair masking tutorials AND learned a LOT from this one! Thanks :-)
Thank you, Karsten!

I had no idea you could bring up the old refine selection workspace - I remember when it disappeared and how long I panicked for!!
