  • Welcome to my latest video, "Beyond Tokyo's Bright Lights: The Dark Reality of Japan's Slums". In this eye-opening piece, we delve deep into the often-overlooked world of slums in Japan, where poverty, and desperation thrive in the shadows of the country's bustling metropolises.
Many tourists flock to Tokyo, Osaka, and other major Japanese cities, attracted by the bright lights and modern conveniences. However, few venture beyond the tourist areas to see the stark contrast between the affluent and the struggling in these cities. This video shines a light on the poverty and inequality that exists in Japan, exploring the harsh living conditions and challenges faced by those living in the slums.
We take you on a journey through some of the most poverty-stricken areas of Japan, sharing a look at these places people call home. From cramped and dilapidated housing to rampant crime and violence, we give an unvarnished view of life in the slums of Japan.
If you're interested in understanding the reality of life in Japan beyond the bright lights and glamour, then this video is a must-watch. Join us as we shine a light on this important issue and raise awareness of the challenges faced by those living in poverty in one of the world's wealthiest nations.

Tokyo's slums are cleaner, safer, and more survivable than most American downtowns. What an amazing country!

Nonsense, there are many stupid people who abuse people. Who would admit that dirty is clean?

You have to also take into account that Japan is a country where the population is in steep decline. There is a significant housing surplus and this means there are large numbers of houses (particularly in country areas) that are sitting empty and are effectively worthless. If you are a Japanese citizen you can go into some areas and apply for a house that has been abandoned by the owners to be transferred to your ownership for a nominal fee. You are required to fix it and live in it of course.

I’m Japanese, thanks for introducing about not major street in city. In old days,Japanese used to make house and apartments with wood, this type of apartment has very little room and weak infrastructure.
In this video, we can see two big problems in city in Japan. One is empty houseJapanese population is getting decreased in these days and has huge amount of elderly people. There is many empty house. Most of the resident living in these places are elderly.
Other problem is decline of power in Main Street in the town. Not only, in Osaka, it’s a problem around over many towns. Many shops are closed because there are a lot of shops in rode side which people can get by there easily. It’s called "shuttle town(シャッター街)".
I am very happy to hear that Japanese city is almost clean, but also want to say thank you to report other side in Japan!

Great look at the depths! Every great city have some gray or even darker areas and it can be quite painful to see some of them. Appreciate that you took us for a trip through the though streets.
Songkran is really kicking off in Pattaya now. Hope you create some content around it if you are in Thailand atm.

I read that in Japan are many abandoned Homes because of the decrease population.
Real estate prices also decline because of that.

Yeah 100% we have walked into abandoned hotels and you can clearly see people had been using them.... spot on with this video the illusion is real in Japan hidden away but you would not notice it if someone did not tell you.... average wage here is less then 30k AUD so you get why there’s issues here. Hell our power bill is 40,000 yen a month so yeah. That brings it into perspective

This man doesn't know that many of these shanty houses in these areas are abandoned . Besides Japan is a small country with large population. thus houses are small. Its a bad thing to judge everything by Australian standard , a big country with small population.

Do sone research on akiya bank houses keis. People are buying good homes from local authorities because people have left their towns. A mate just bought a 10 room farm house near Fiji he’s going to turn into a mountain biking trail running/hiking hostel. Cost him about $40000 aud and it will be about 1/2 more to do it up to hostel standards,
