A Japanese man told me that the Samurai class also created the Barakamon because the middle class were getting restless, and wanted more upward mobility, so the Samurai created the Barakamon and this would give the middle class a sense of superiority. It was a clever means to defuse the situation. Never underestimate the power of snobbery.
thank you for the link to yama attack documentary, i've always wanted to see it.I learnt about san'ya from ashita no joe and there is a great book called sanya blues by Edward Fowler that i recommend to anyone who is interested
6:25 first place on the left is Ryokan Nakadaya in Taito and I stayed there. I have walked and driven around this area a lot. So driving from Asakusa to here, the GPS took me through Yoshiwara, and I saw homeless people, and a guy slapped another guy in the street.
Awesome. Gonna go checkout this place when I go to Japan next. Spend a bit of money there to help the local businesses. Wish Japan would reopen though.
Eye opener! Had I not watched this video, I would not have known about these Japanese and their neighborhood even though I've vacationed in Japan 3 times. Those civil uprisings in the 60's...looked familiar and especially for that era. I'm wiser after watching this segment about history.
Japan is a highly homogenius nation, but there are some places which are abandoned by middle-class Japanese citizens. Sanya is one of such districts, and living in Sanya is considered to be a stigma. Many Japanese people tend to turn their blind eyes on Sanya and other shantytowns as if they do not exist.
If you understood him, then the exchange of information and language was successful. People mess up -- inform and get over it. It's not some cosmic slight against you. It doesn't make the video less informative. I'm sure you've done similar things or will do them. Especially considering all the weird pronunciations in English: Think cough and dough.
It has nothing to do with being American though. Yes they made a mistake but if you haven't heard this word before that would be a very reasonable guess based on spelling, considering that it follows the pattern of similar words like waste or paste

It's rare to see these subjects in English, thanks for the upload.
I imagine that many Japanese people are also ignorant of these facts.
When the poorest neighborhood in Tokyo looks like the middle to upper class neighborhoods in your city
That's cause the Japanese care about nothing more than appearances. The government isn't going to let it fall apart and become a blight...
Yep, this living standard of this neigbor is so good. I would invest in ỉ
Good video but..."caste" is pronounced like "cast", not like "cased".
It is really distracting.
The algorithm has selected you
Very informative! Keep up the great content

Hahaha yeah sounds exactly like that!!
Great production! Unfortunately most of the videos on this platform on Sanya, seem to be very exploitative in nature.

the poorest area of tokyo would be a paradise compared to the richest part of America. Facts.
very interesting
Nah. Not that title. Not doesn’t exist at least officially and more. /
Why do Americans mess up the pronunciation of certain uncommon words so badly? That's not how you pronounce caste...
