Check out my review of the 5 ah knock off Dewalt battery CHEAP Amazon Dewalt KNOCK OFF Battery vs The Real Deal
ua-cam.com/video/ha_0JvG57og/v-deo.html
I really love and appreciate your 1 year follow up reviews. They are truly helpful to me in my buying decisions. Keep up the great reviews.
Thabks larry
Just checked the date codes on my 5 DeWalt 20V Max batteries. They were made in 2015 and they still work like new. I wonder where the knockoffs will be in 9 years
My 2 54 v 6amp are 9 years old. One has just failed. But 9 years old. I’ll only buy the real deal
I bought two 8ah clone DeWalt batteries off Amazon for about $50 for my two DeWalt 20 volt saws. They came in without bars, so they took about an hour to charge on my DeWalt chargers. After they were fully charged I put them on the saws and did some cutting. They did well. When DeWalt stops gouging their customers for batteries I will pick up a few 6 ah for my saws but not until then.
I think the biggest concern for me when browsing these cheaper Chinese knockoff batteries hasn’t necessarily been the stated capacity - with Chinese knockoffs, you can pretty much always guarantee the actual capacity to be significantly less than what is stated. My biggest concern stems from the fact that they probably aren’t using cells that have a high enough discharge rate for this kind of application, meaning the cells get pushed far beyond their safety limits, leading to all kinds of trouble. To me, that’s enough of a red flag to put me off ever buying or even using one 😕
I leave my batteries charging at night, i can already see my shop burning down
I suspect the knockoffs are always gonna be hit or miss with more misses than hits.
I recently rescued a working 40v mower the neighbor threw out so I'm looking for a 40v Ryobi battery and charger.
Except its almost not worth rescuing since a legit OEM battery costs only 60-90 bucks less than a new mower + battery + charger
good job bro, i have the flex tablesaw and came with 2 flexvolt batteries and would not use any other types in it. paid 500 so half the price was the batteries and charger to me, great saw
Yeah, I would protect that investment to man
All good practical moments. I love real answers.Honest answers.
@@4Lights.5Liights appreciate your kind words. I truly planned on doing a follow up video where I tore apart the battery to look inside I filmed it all in one take and didn’t hit record lol. One of my bigger UA-cam blunders over the years
everyone knows Chinese retail is filled with lies and misrepresentation, and great cheap deals.
DeWalt batterys are made in china
Though the price makes them hard to pass up, I would never buy the knockoffs of counterfeits. They have no curcuit board like the origionals, which prevent overcharging and provide overheat protection. They are considerably more likely to fail or catch on fire. And with a truck full of approximately 22k worth of tools, it's a risk I'm not willing to take over 50 bucks or less in savings.
Yeah this one was a piece of junk, ended up tearing it apart to do a video on that and forget to hit record lol but I do have some waitely knock offs that have been outstanding 2 plus years in
You can get 9 Amp/Hr batteries that are the size of the 6 Amp/Hr packs as the difference in size is based on the 6 Amp/Hr using 15 18650 cells while the 9 Amp/Hr use 21700 cells. You can get 3 Amp/Hr cells in both sizes. The switch to 21700 allows for higher Amp/Hr packs for less as 21700s tend to run cheaper per Amp/Hr as the numbers start to go up; 18650 tend to also cap out at 4 Amp/Hr while 21700 can go up to t and probably even 6 in the near future. One other big benefit to 21700 over 18650 is their ability to put out higher amp levels, a need for some tools, though this can also lead to quicker depletion as well as tripping thermal cut-offs.
I have personally rebuilt DeWalt batteries with higher power cells and like the 18650 form factor as it fits the older tools whereas some newer packs do not. I doubt though any Chinese company is doing this as it is quite cost prohibitive; they tend to just list higher spec. numbers and leave consumers to find out. Another thing they do is reuse old batteries so even if you take a battery apart and identify high quality and spec. cells inside they may have already seen their life cycle of charge cycles and have a much reduced actual capacity.
It has been a year🎉 cool I’d you do a follow up that maybe includes taking it soar and seeing the circuits?
Have you tried it on flexvolt tools? Can it power up the flexvolt dewalt tools with the knockoff dewalt flexvolt batteries?
I own this knockoff. You are correct. It doesn't last nearly as long as the Dewalt 9AH. It's sole purpose is to keep me going while my Dewalt is in the charger. For the price, it's worth that. Side note: The Dewalt 9AH that came with my weed whacker died after 4 months of use. I called Dewalt and they replaced it, no questions asked.
Thanks for the helpful and positive comments. I was appreciate the feedback like this.
paid $75 for mine, lasts a while on 887B & 771, dont drop them the crack!
I have bought a few different imitation dewalt batteries and I have had them charge properly or not charge and on 1 o2 bars, showing full charge on the charger. I opened up a couple and found mismatched cells, the BMS ( battery management system) pcb is tiny compared to original dewalt! I have swapped cells and they work again. Next i will be replacing some BMS circuit board with a balance board like in dewalt battery. Top video ❤. Subbed and liked cheers from Australia 👍👍👍
Lol I’ve let the genie out myself before
Thank you so much to save me buy a Crap 9ah from Amazon
Thabsk for the kind words
Thanks for the kind words
thanks for the honest review
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video
Knockoffs must say Dewalt aftermarket don't say Dewalt.
I’m always dubious about “as good as” claims. There is a reason the price of knock offs are so much more inexpensive, because they are cheaply made.
Did you open it up
I got pretty much the same results with both ridgid and milwaukee knock offs.
Hate that happened but glad we are on the same page. Now the 5ah Waitley knock off i got has been great
I use the Waitly M12 knock offs, but only in my lights😎🛠️😎🛠️😎
I use mine in my Dewalt blower
I bought same battery same results as you i tested in 60v string trimmer though
Misery loves company. Its a shame because the first knock off 5 ah waitley bought was so good
Funny how your drill crapped out while doing this i find it ironic...thanks for the info its hard to find reviews on these
Yes very ironic that an old ass drill likely with thousands of hours on it died on a torture test .. .. .. I see ur point ..
You can't compare a standard battery size and weight to a flex volt battery they are both different... 🙄
Have you reviewed the 9ah waitley?
When it comes to batteries and micro sd cards, i have no trust left for amazon. They just arent checking out their vendors.
Can you also review the Dewalt knock off fast charger. I see people use and I’m thinking can it damage the battery like overheating overcharging and cause fire.
I do have plans Sunday to do one of those. I just got such a backlog of stuff that I bought that I want to review that it could take a few months.
I bought it and it did not last for a month until it broke down and overheated. When I tried to fix it, it did not work. I do not recommend it at all.
It was a piece of junk I tore mine apart a few weeks after this review and didn’t hit record but it’s def not the type of cells a Dewalt woudl have in it
id be afraid to toss one of these in an expensive flexvolt tool
You and me both. I used it for a little bit and then got curious and tore it apart. Couldn’t find any numbers on the cells. Worst part was I forgot to turn on my camera lol
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP How convenient u "forget" to film what u knew ur viewers wanted to see and knew would be good content for your channel and even said something about wanting to do it early In the video. Yea thers something more goin on here
Awesome job. Sounds like for now I'll stick with the 4 and 6 amh knock off batteries 🔋
Thanks hawk yeah, I like the five amp hour knock off. They’ve been good to me so far.
I have a couple of waitleys 6.0 and they are MUCH MUCH smaller and lighter than the real dewalt. Not only that but they are very slightly smaller and lighter than the DeWalt 4.0. They seem to work well and even if they are legit 4.0 batteries, I’m OK with that. I just wish they were more honest.
Tbh I bought three genuine DeWalt flexvolt 9 ah batteries . Six weeks later I had one remaining working
Genuine DeWalt aren't much better than the copies
You should contact DeWalt as the 9 Amp/Hr batteries carry a 3-year warranty.
battery might have killed the drill lol, especially if the voltage is wrong. should check with multimeter
Great honest review
thanks vern
I have one Waitley and it performs fine but it has one problem. I have four chargers and for some reason it only charges on two of them. If I only had one charger and it was the wrong one, I would have no way to charge it.
I have a waitley as well I only charge them on my 4 port rapid charger I’ll have to dig out some of my other ones and check it out. Any idea why that’s the case
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP The Waitley charges normally on my newest charger that I got as part of a flex volt kit. It charges on another charger I have but only if it is fully spent and sometimes I have to take it off and put it back on again. My other two chargers will not charge it at all. I really don't have an explanation.
I have some from them as well. It seems like of the "knock off" ones, they are one of the better ones. I look at these batteries as having inferior individual cells (lower discharge rates, lower capacity, etc) but in areas where high, constant demand isn't required, they work just as well. I suspect their BMS is probably at least 1, if not 2, generations behind what the OEMs are using, also.
So simple plus means it's not a genuine Dewalt Even if it comes in a yellow Case exactly.
Thanks!
Thank you for that super thanks is very much appreciated
Now I use a mix of tools, but mostly ryobi (Dont hate me lol), but have a similar mix of genuine and knockoff batteries that I have used over the last 4 years. Normally the knockoff batteries perform well except on higher drain items so I think they are often limited by the cells higher internal resistance. In terms of longevity, thats where the genuine ones seem to be slightly better, lasting multiple years vs 12-18 months before the performance seems to drop dramatically (But again they are fine in lower current drawing tools).
I'm getting my first dewalt battery tools as part of a redemption, and it's a flexvolt string trimmer and a normal 18V polesaw, both with charger and battery, so it should be interesting to see what the price and performance of clone batteries is now a year later than your testing.
I tried the knock offs, but for professionals, they’re a waste of money. Might be ok for occasional use.
Another downside is they use plain abs, not fiberglass reinforced plastic. The Chineseiem battery plastic will shatter easily
Your situation is a bit closer in price, but I have Worx tools. A Worx 20V 4Ah battery is 100 bucks. A 20V 6Ah battery is 150 bucks. A Worx 20V 6Ah knockoff battery is 27 bucks. And this knockoff lasts a little longer than the Worx 4Ah battery that is 100 bucks. I know the Worx 20V 6Ah battery is going to be better than the knockoff, but 6 times better? They're not even trying. Zero chance I buy anything but the knockoffs for my Worx tools.
Dude, that is a crazy price difference between brand name and no name and hell yeah I’d be buying the cheaper ones in that case for sure I do have some good quality Dewalt knock offs that I love it was just this one that the company sent me that was horrible
Why are we allowing this crap into our countries from companies making fraudulant claims. Batteries is one thing but it applies to so many imported products inluding food, medical devices, medications etc.
We need to be backing America Canada and Europe.
We need Amazon to do the same as well.
Just my thoughts support our own.
It is not junk but over rated. My two 8 ah AMAZON clone is at best a 5+ ah battery. My DYi 6 ah battery will smoke these 8 ah batteries. I opened the cases on these batteries to see what the had in them and they had 10 ea 18650 cells. Those of us that know, know you cannot get 8 ah out of 18650 cells - you need 21700 cells to get 8 ah, so I agree with you. My 6 ah DYI battery was built with SAMSUNG 30Q cells, which tested out at 3,100 mah and change, average.
Great review
Great Review !
Well u had it for nothing.
Some people will buy an use them.
I gotta a supossedly 9ah, Einhell copy.
It works it charges.
Its more like a 6ah or even a 5ah.
But it's a good price an ideal as spare...
Yeah, absolutely it wasn’t a total loss but in my mind all the more important when getting something for free to give an honest review because if you don’t, you might as well not review anything
It would have been better to rip it apart afterwards. It is just a few screws to at least get to the electronics. I wonder why you did not? Those 9Ah Chinese knock offs are on clearance (as they start to roll out the 12Ah ones!!!) at under $35 a piece where I live, and the Dewalt 6Ah are at best $90 or more. Is the Dewalt worth more than nearly three times the knockoff? As with anything Chinese, they at least bend the truth. So, do you have a big problem with ignoring the label and actually understand you are getting a 6Ah for the money? Working on site, I have seen so many of the genuine 6Ah DeWalt batteries burn out or overheat when used on tough jobs. Hammer drilling, angle grinder. When you strip off the sides you see the nickel cell connectors are designed to blow at a weak point, and they do. A lot. I have dismantled a few to see what else has blown, and of the 15 cells inside, typically two or three are dead. Grade A Samsung 2000mAh cells to be sure, which you will not find in the Chinese knock offs. But, the Chinese cell makers have gotten better, but not as good as the big brands. I know some folks show how to repair these, but you really shouldn't. If one cell in the pack has blown, it would be foolish to think another will not soon afterwards. At $35 they are disposable, at three times that, they are not.
What I have found is even dewalt branded batteries may be knock offs so it seems that the better buy might be something like a waitley which is an acknowledged knock off but performs well. Do you know of any way to be sure a dewalt battery is actually made by dewalt?
Hehe, don't use flex volt batts on XR tools, yeah it will work, yeah it will f**k the cheaper tools, 😎
Thanks for letting us know about that.😮
What do you expect from the chinese who dont even have an FTC watching out for trash like this.
