Excellent commentary about pattern play, the mental game, how these can affect your stoke and ultimately the outcome. Felt like a coaching session, learned at lot!
These is one of the best commentators ive heard compared to the other old-guy-know-it-all. I think you know who im talkin about. These guys are having fun and that makes it fun to listen too
It's nice to hear the commentary from a guy who is actually playing in this tournament. Not that other people don't know the game, but Appleton will be playing SVB before the weekend is over. That gives his statements a lot more gravitas.
Nice to see some real pros playing some EIGHT ball for a change. Very different game than rotation, especially the safing side. And this looks to be a great match up. These two play at such a level where a couple of millimeters of miss or roll on a couple of shots in a 19 game match is the loss side. Incredible pool. Man, did that ball accelerate out of that corner for Shane, OR WHAT? Amazing how much difference a little to much side can generate off two rails like that, especially on the off the second one.
Not much “safing” in 8 ball at this level. I think only two safes all match. It’s run out or get run out on. But the outs are much more interesting than in rotation.
Need more 8 ball matches. Its better to watch. The pros actually have to use their brains and make a few mistakes making it more interesting. 9 and 10 ball is way to repetitive and easy for players of their caliber.
@@benkaiser4518 Agreed. Have you ever seen the Bonus Ball series that went on for a bit? It's on YT. I talked to one of the pros that was at the hall one day (while ago, but I think it might have been Justin Hall..was at Clicks, Orlando area) that played in it, and he said it was his favorite game, behind one pocket. You need to go look up the rules first, or you won't have a clue what is going on, but I really enjoyed it once I figured it out. Many top pros on the teams and a few REALLY good amateurs. Talk about strategy, whoever came up with it had quite an imagination. Combines almost every pool game there is (except 3 cushion), even has game (and turn) time clocks and stuff, and some aspects of Snooker, too. One team gets two corner pockets and the opposing side pocket, the other team gets the three remaining..and they are on colors, so the safing is like one pocket, but with two more pockets available...like I said, tons of strategy. Appleton, Strickland, Archer, and many many more played in it. There were two seasons before the money ran out...too bad it did, MHO. They had audio on at least some (maybe all?) of the players, so you can hear them planning strategy and working out patterns...pretty cool.
So far I nominate Jeremy Jones and Jason Shaw as best commentators for pool matches. Jeremy for his golden pipes especially, and Jason for his ability to tactfully agree/disagree with his fellow commentator and call it right every time. That way I would never have to mute the volume while watching.
Obviously pro pool players are the best in the world. I get that, but let's see them play on some of the junk that, we amateurs have to play on like tables that haven't been anything done to for 4 or 5 years, the dirty, the nasty tables that we amateur players play on. Don't keep changing the rules. Make the tables harder to play on by not recovering them with new rails.Let them play on mud tables like we play on.
After watching Corey's legendary run out on a Chinese 8 Ball table, I kind of wonder whether anyone can beat him at this game. IMO, it's as impressive as Melling's run out.
It is because Corey hits very soft on the break because he does a second ball break. You can afford to hit a lot softer on the second ball break and need a lot more cue ball control due to low and/or left that you put on the cue ball to try and make it go back into the rack. That is a lot harder to do with a harder tip that generally comes on a break cue. So the shot is not damaging to his cue or cue tip like it would be if he hit hard.
Darren Appleton was great, needs to do more commenting. Both Corey and Shane need to do a lot of walking around to make sure they're alive. Lots of bad shots by both players...
i'm sorry but shanes blunder in game 9 was because he overspun the cue ball, i'm certain shane would agree. this happens on that shot when you're careless and shane is usually better than that. for darren and the other commentator to agree that it has to do with how the table is playing is nonsense! i suspect darren was just trying to give the other guy an out for saying it hit the point when it was actually and obviously close to a foot away. good match though.
Game 14 where the stripes and solids separated to the two halves of the table was the classic Corey Deuel, “cheater rack.” I surprised they haven’e somehow made that illegal. They should outlaw having all the balls of the same flavour lined up in the forth row.
Game 14 which Corey racked was an 8 ball break, and the fourth row was 14-9-2-10, 3 stripes and one solid. And incidentally the table was pretty well spread out, with the groups mixed.
The 8 ball Shane missed if u watch the replay the ball skidded this is something u can clearly see it was so to English but he didn't mean to do it.earl talks alot about balls skidding and people assume he's just full of bs
As a "purist" watching this match, I cringed every time they broke. I'm talking about the effects of the "magic rack" on slow-moving balls. Sometimes, slow-moving balls actually REVERSED directions from where they were headed. I suppose, some people would say they're both using the "magic rack", so "it'll all even out in the end". To me, it's not much different than having a cube of chalk being on the table, then saying, "Well, the next game, we'll put a cube on your table". To my way of thinking, there shouldn't be ANYTHING on the table except for the balls.
Corey was THE MAN among U.S. pros until SVB came along and stole his thunder. Probably always been a little bitter over that. And as mentioned SVB thumping him in 2007 changed pool forever.
Neither of them looked like they were having a lot of fun. I think it was Shane being frustrated because he dogged a few shots and Corey because he struggled to capitalize on Shane's errors. Neither of them were having their best day at the table. They usually seem to be happier.
They do have a bit of a rivalry, but I think most players do become more serious when playing in a tournament environment, there's more pressure and more at stake than usual.
Sorry, no! I was there. Corey wanted to do bumpers on the prize money. Many of the players agree before the match on what usually is a 75-25 or 70-30 split. Shane refused. Given all the money Shane gets in sponsorships, it seemed kind of selfish. It got to both players. Watch to the end you'll see Corey not letting go of Shane's hand. He's reminding him how his greed got him $0
So many times people leave it on the table instead of picking it up, or it sits on the rail dangling over the playing surface. Is an imperfect rack that bad? It's not that hard to get a decent rack if the cloth is in good shape.
