The first time I ever heard this was in the library at my Jr. High school, in 1972. The school library had cassettes, and cassette players, and headphones we could check out during lunch break, or after school. My best friend suggested I check out and listen to John Denver. The first record I ever bought for myself was a John Denver album. I still have it, along with over two hundred vinyl albums, and over nine hundred CD's I've collected in the past fifty plus years. I like watching react to and enjoy the music that I grew up with.
I have loved John Denver's music since the 1970's. His voice and music are so soothing, his lyrics are so touching. His music sooths my soul, whenever I'm feeling down, listening to him makes me feel better. I don't know if he knew how many people he touched with his music. We played his tapes at work after 9/11 and I think that it helped us get through that awful time.
My grandmother bought me a little ceramic rocking chair for my eleventh birthday that played this song, I have now passed that on to one of my grandchildren! Her name is Sunshine so it's was a fitting decision to leave it to her!
I use to sing this song when I was little to my cat when he was old and sick and had to be put down, then again as a teenager when my grandfather passed. It always reminds me of my dear grandfather ❤❤❤❤❤
John Denver is my favorite singer of all time! I first got introduced to him from his "Wildlife Concert" when I was in middle school! I ended up listening to it on CD every day in high school! If you want a new take on the song, he did it slower in the "Wildlife Concert" and has Jim Horn on the Sax. My favorite 3 songs from him are "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (live versions are better like "The Wildlife Concert"), "Follow Me," and "Shanghai Breezes" (again from "The Wildlife Concert")! Such a great writer, singer, and storyteller!
First heard this song while riding home on the school bus home and yes there was sun shine shining thru the windows which made me think about the words to this song ! Please do THANK GOD IM A CONRTY BOY LIVE by John Denver next
Love that one, Tahoe! it was also about "getting out the vote" for young listeners, and Cass lays claim to the song.. which of course, was written by JD, but he plays it off... what a talent!
John has so many good songs. His voice is just magical and right on pitch. This just might be my favorite. I made a video to send to my mom and dad back in 2000. I was bottle feeding my infant boy and I used this music. I always think of those days when I hear it now.
Somehow my dad got a tiny catamaran and kept it in our canal for my friend and I to use. He attached a 3 1/2 horse engine on the back and taught me how to fix the parts that might break during a voyage (Fort Lauderdale, FL) ... and provided all parts needed, including a gas tank and all of the gas needed. My friend and I would go out on that nearly every day. We had matching radios, hers was black and white, mine was brown and tan. This song played so much during the time we were enjoying that boat. We had sunshine on more than just our shoulders, there was a lot of sunburn, but we certainly learned about freedom and the responsibilities necessary for that. Praise God for John Denver!
My dad was a musician and loved to play this on his guitar when I was a little girl back on the 80’s. I still cry when I hear this, thinking of my father who’s since passed.
Hi there, young man, John wrote this song in Minnesota, it was a rainy day, and he was looking out the window. He co-wrote this with the late great guitar player Mike Taylor, and the late great bass player Dick Kniss. These are the guys playing with John , just 3 guys playing on that song. Truly beautiful, Wonderful reaction fella. Good work. ✌️🏴 Allan from Scotland.
This was my very first album (and only one for a long time) I was about 12 I think. I played it over and over and laid on my bed listening to John's sweet words. I wish he was still with us.
First heard in 1975 or 1976 as a teenager on the beach with friends and “Sunshine on my shoulder”, I was a Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, CCR, the Who etc etc fan, but we always loved John around a bonfire getting lit 😎
First heard in 1974 on the radio-became a number one song-although this is all acoustic-the hit version also had strings behind it. I remember being in Church and there was radio interference coming across the microphone sound system-when this song started playing in the background the sun started shining through the stained glass windows-the pastor stopped preaching and let the song be heard exclaiming God wants us to experience the "Light" and listen to John. Once the song was over, the preacher said Amen and went back to his sermon.
This was one of the first songs I ever learned on the guitar, and it was the first time I ever had a girl mesmerized by me singing a song. A bunch of us were camping at a lake in upstate NY. It was a peaceful late afternoon with the sun going down over the water, and as I was singing, I could see one of the girls we were with just locked onto me with this awestruck look of total desire as I played it. Nothing came of it (my brother was really into her so I would never screw that up), but I could see that look in her eye and I knew! Maybe that’s why I love John Denver so much! I forgot about that until just now. Great memory. Thanks for the reminder!
My Mom had a John Denver album, when I was in Elementary school. I’d always borrow it at night and play it on my little record player, to go to sleep by. It’s some of the most peaceful music I’ve ever heard, and I will always love his version of Country Roads better than the rest(except Home Free, they make Everything better). I was around 12, when God decided it was time for John to come live with him, and I remember crying all day, and cried myself to sleep, listening to this song, that night. (Big Hugs for this one, Ace)!* ❤
Always loved this song. I don't remember where i was when i first heard it but it's a great song to be with nature. I highly recommend you check out another song of his called For You from the Wildlife Concert he did in the 90's.
It gives me memories as a kid sitting in our downstairs family room with my dad, with a fire crackling in the Franklin wood stove listening to John Denver on the 8 track player😊
I remember going to watch a movie called sunshine about a girl who was dying from cancer and this was the main song being sung to her, which as you can imagine was pretty emotional. Might have been the boyfriend singing in the movie using his vocals.
Wonderful redaction. I have always been a very enthusiastic fan of John Denver. I heard most of songs for the first time on the " Radio ". John Denver was the artist who I went to a live concert. At one point I had every { Album } he had out. I even took like 10+ hr's once to record nothing but Take Me Home Country Roads to both sides of a [ Cassette ] tape. What took the most time was starting and stopping it right at the start and end of the song as to not have any Blank / Unused space on the cassette. After I got the first cassette made I use that as the master to record the final cassette on both sides just doing a play + record for both sides of the final cassette.
There was later a made-for-tv movie from 1972 that was based on this song called "Sunshine." It was so popular that a few sequels came out of it. Denver himself was popular for his holdiay TV specials throughout the 1970s, which occasionally featured this song. I believed it was on one of these that I first heard the song growing up..In the mid-1970s, Denver was huge. An amazing artist, and a beautfully minimalistic song.
Voiceplay and Geoff released their new videos on their Patreons last Wednesday. They will be on UA-cam this weekend. Voiceplay's is "out of this world". Geoff's is wickedly beautiful.
I heard the song on AM radio & my parents bought the album. There's also the made for TV movie in 1973 called"Sunshine" , it was good but, tough to watch as a young kid.
In case you haven;t gotten to the follow songs highly consider a reaction for - Poems , Prayers , Promises : The Eagle and The Hawk : Thank God I'm A Country Boy.
This is the most effortlessly beautiful song ever, in my opinion.
I think you're ready for 'Grandma's Feather Bed'.
John Denver was my favorite singer at the time. I loved the fact that he represented nature in such a positive way.
John Denver/Annie's Song😊
Yes, please!
This was on the radio nonstop in my youth. Very chill.
And on the tv from Hee Haw to Johnny Carson. 🙏🎶

One of the best songs ever written. Love his combination of rasp and vibrato.

John wrote so much beauti ful music. His songs were also nature filled and that was because he cared about the world and the people in it.
They made a TV movie named Sunshine. It was inspired by this song.
I was 11 when I heard this and it made me cry and it still makes me weepy after 50 years! It's just so beautiful!
John Denver has one of the most tender comforting voices ever!

You also need to listen to Leaving on a Jet Plane, there's a live version of him Mama Cass Elliott you have to see awesome.
Love that one, Tahoe! it was also about "getting out the vote" for young listeners, and Cass lays claim to the song.. which of course, was written by JD, but he plays it off... what a talent!
It would be better, as a first time listener, to listen to John`s original version first and then listen to the version with Mama Cass.
He made some beautiful music but he had some funny ones to he was the whole package.

I always enjoy your comments. You seem to be very positive and understand our classic music.

I prefer the orchestrated version - love those strings
I cry every time I hear this, can’t explain it but it makes me very emotional.
My mother used to sing me this when I was little
It is so calming and peaceful ❤️ just beautiful
His voice is haunting. It's sad to think his plane went down into the sunshine on the water. This is the most subdued I've ever seen you.

John is a spiritual journey

Thanks, Ace! JD was an amazing artist.. appreciate your reaction, and hope you do more...
@@michaelasay8587 True, Michael, but that's what "reactions" are for... lol

Exactly
I learned to sing by hearing his album as well as Barry Manilow.

He is playing a 12 string.
