      I’d say they’re my favourite popkill nation at least, and I generally like the R’lyeh nations when it comes to UW. They FEEL like a true UW nation with genuine drawbacks, though less so for MA R’lyeh

    Void Sanity reduces madness effects and chances of become insane by dividing the chance by your Void Sanity rating. So at 10 you have a 90% chance of being fine, when you would otherwise trigger either effect.

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +1

      It also reduces the severity of accumulating insanity, so you won’t rack up a very high level quickly even if you do get it.
      It still means you will end up getting a good number of your illithid mages going insane by late game, especially star children, which can be a problem to manage alongside the horde of madmen doing who knows what you will have.
      Big issue with R’lyeh is upkeep as well, because all your aquatic only troops and insane commanders doing nothing will cost upkeep

    I'm not completely sure, but in the back of my head I have this thought of having read that the Pretender of La R'lyeh is immune to his own dominion madness effect, never tested, but it would make sense

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  3 місяці тому +1

      Maybe, but I’ve never chosen a pretender that wasn’t void sane so like most things in dominions I just take my assumption as the truth.

    You don't need to take a pretender with void sanity. I've tested it several times for very many turns and your pretender will never go insane, unless your pretender tries to use the void gate.

      That’s a good point then, gives you more breathing room to take something more durable if you are up against a lot of pressure from other players.

    If you want to get rid of aquatic units instead of waiting for them to turn into Void Heralds/Void Dreamers, when building forts, try and keep your forts as far away from a single province as possible.
    Pillage the population there to 0 and send things there to starve.

    Recuperation? But I am pretty sure that doesn't work on Tartarians? In dominions 6 Undead are unaffected by healers or recuperation but they can be healed with Mending Bones (Death 3 bless) or Corpse Stitcher (which is basically undead healer) which Necromancers have

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +2

      Maybe things have changed with Dominions 6, it used to be in Dom5 that if you put a shroud on a tartarian with recuperation it could heal their feebleminded status over time. I thought mending bones only healed injuries but I’ve not tried it myself yet.

      @@CairnEnjoyer If you hover over the recuperation bless in game it says "All sacred units will heal battle afflictions over time outside of battle. Recuperation does not work on undead, lifeless, spiritform beings and those who suffer from old age"

      AFAIK recuperation as a general ability still works for undead, Asphodel being the most relevant case study, but the recuperation bless does not.

    have you found any way to deal with the crappy offscript AI with communions? im a new player but astral communions feel so bad when they just cast body ethereal for 10 rounds instead of something that can actually win you the battle. ive tried so many things and it just doesnt seem to improve it

      Other than mods idk, this has been an issue in the last game as well. One thing you could do is try to break the communion at the end of your script so the mages can at least cast independently. Though even their random casts can be similarly bad.

    I wonder if that new obfuscate bless is any good. You could send all your freespawn priests to enemy lands to spread the madness.

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +1

      Maybe, you will end up with tons of them eventually, issue is they become so insane as to not be that reliable of scouts or preachers, so idk if it’s worth to spend so many bless points for obfuscate just for that alone. You have access to a summon which can cause madness in enemy provs anyway.

    I know, there is an Aboleth available as pretender god to someone in Dom 6, cause I ahve seen them in a beginners video on expanders (which they kind of are bad at). But which nation can chose them, if not R'lyeh?

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +2

      Probably Early Age R’lyeh only as I recall. However LA R’lyeh has an Aboleth hero unit with some lore about the Aboleths returning to mind control the Illithids and take over R’lyeh, with some speculation about them being responsible for the downfall of the Starspawn as revenge.

    • @stefanb6539
      @stefanb6539 4 місяці тому +1

      @njoyer Thank you very much for your answer. Can I ask you for a favor, possibly?
      Thing is, I am an absolute fanboy of all things related to Aboleths. Sadly, I never played any Dominion games, am at best m'eh at these type of strategy games in general, and to figure out on my own, how a "meta" Aboleth could be played (given, that the most meta is probably to NOT play an Aboleth) would be an incredible sink of time, that I currently don't have.
      So, if any streamer on youtube would be willing to build or even better play an Aboleth to the maximum of their potential, I would be giddy from joy, an would love to watch that as kind of a lore expedition on Aboleths.
      There are some mentions in some obscure old D&D lore sources, that Aboleths used to rule a global empire, before they were punished by the gods. Now Dominion isn't exactly DnD, much less one of the official worlds, but being able to understand any consistently competitive Aboleth empire, which needs it would have to fulfill, which challenges to overcome, etc. would be incredibly interesting to watch.
      Seeing someone else play Aboleth's well, may even be the only viable tutorial to goad me into buying Dom 6 and testing it out myself.

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +1

      I have a video from Dominions 5 about EA R’lyeh when it was ruled by Aboleths, but some info is outdated with Dom6. Still EA R’lyeh is a difficult nation, maybe more difficult than LA R’lyeh.
      I’d say the best strategy for EA R’lyeh is to get a strong amphibious expander god like the Earth Snake, since you are very weak both in the water and on land early game. However you will have issues getting your aboleths on land without air access

    • @stefanb6539
      @stefanb6539 4 місяці тому +1

      @njoyer Yeah, but the Earth Snake isn't the Aboleth... and the Aboleth themselves,.... well in a video I saw they were rated pretty much as just a wannabe expander, who suffers for example from a lack of poison immunity for aquatic expansion. I mean, this would be clearly pretty much a meme build, which is why I won't even try my hand at it. I found out in enough other complex games, that you have to be pretty good at a game to even try to make a meme build look somewhat viable.
      If you got a patreon or a buy-me-a-coffee somewhere, I would be willing to pay you 50 € for seeing you give it your best shot.

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому

      Sorry I misunderstood that you were talking about the Aboleth god chassis and not the Aboleths as a nation. I’m not sure how you could make it work.
      Since it’s quite cheap, and more diverse magically than other “monsters” you could treat it as a later game magical thug, similar to recruitable aboleths. I doubt it would be useful for expansion except as an extra army leader, but I’d likely take it dormant or imprisoned for the scales boost since EA/MA R’lyeh wants good scales. I haven’t checked for Dominions 6 yet but I believe the Aboleth pretender is exclusive to EA R’lyeh.

    Simple rule - always get as many meteorite guards as possible!

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому +3

      In late age, this is not that practical, barring some production focused minimal dom builds. However this sort of strategy is not that viable in Dom6 due to the bless limit system and god-scale limits as well.
      Imo in late age you are best off with as many mindless chaff as you can get and getting leadership bonus items for commanders to prevent non-mindless units from routing so easily.

    • @udaspriest
      @udaspriest 4 місяці тому

      @@CairnEnjoyerI'm testing it right now - with a low dom build - and it works quiet well, you can use your priest to preach up dominion in select provinces - btw. slave mages will transform into void creatures with only 25 insanity - so still good value - they loose their upkeep as well in their new form. Btw meteorite guards are slaves as well - really low upkeep - always get them the free spawn is a bonus.

    • @udaspriest
      @udaspriest 4 місяці тому +1

      @@CairnEnjoyerExpansion with meteorite guards has gotten much easier in dom6 because you can get a higher number in the beginning - yes they are that good. You don't need many mindblasters - only a few to disrupt the enemys formation in the early expansion phase. Later on you don't need them at all.
      Or get the slave guardian with the trident in the first rounds. At the latest switch to meteorite guards when the cap ring is cleared - but you can do the switch much earlier due to higher starting resources in dom 6. Crab hybrids and shambler thralls are a trap in my opinion. Lobos are mostly great siege chaff..

    • @CairnEnjoyer
      @CairnEnjoyer  4 місяці тому
