yeah i think its hard to ignore the fact that the culture we grew up in (via the internet , tv , ect) has made us experience most things in an ironic way in some form . i think this might be a reason why i feel so depressed about life sometimes . good vid
Same. Ironic entertainment kinda fools you that everything is a joke and nothing really matters, but then you start having responsibilities and it only lasts so long that you can still laugh or shrug them off until you actually have to start taking them seriously if you want to make something of yourself. And that was a really tough lesson to learn. Having said that, I think it's a really good way to learn that life isn't just something you're supposed to take for granted, so I'm thankful we grew up in an ironic era that made us stronger, not weaker.
separating myself from the ironic layers i'd built around myself was painfully difficult, but worthwhile. i wish more people could be sincere. i guess i should mention what helped me make the change. listening to interviews of DFW and hearing the man talk i felt him trying to make a genuine effort to demonstrate his perspective. helped me realize that no one is without flaws.
Coffee I can't believe how young you look here! Its crazy how much change can happen in 5 years! P.S. I love these older videos of yours so much! Keep up the fabulous work!
If I reupload this and say it's from the 90s ppl might believe it for a second but then they'll see what they're talking about and realize how shitty this camera setup is.
This is a great clip. One thing that is worth adding is that although certain aspects of culture have become less ironic, the generations that grew up in the 90s & 2000s endured an onslaught of irony & cynacism to the point it became engrained in the collective psyche of millennials. The attempt at a cure has been 1)returning to a more religious filter of the world that could wash out certain toxicities via the condemnation of deadening irony as a form of sin (missing the mark) or 2) a cultivating a kind of non-theistic religious filter that aggrandized the natural world & immediate pleasure of life or 3) a mix of both that has found the collective psyche looking to political saviors like Obama & Trump to give us back the cheery vision of the future that post-modern society has drained from us. The reckless abandonment to an ideological, cynical poison has been in the works for decades and has been a superficial promotion of nothing but what appears to be in the interest of leftward political orthodoxy at any given time which is mostly built on the compulsive vacuum of impersonal & broken conceptions of conservative values that remain in our culture and condemn us by reminding us of what we aren't living up to. Still human nature groans & graves for a story that moves us and so rather stay dedicated to an orthodoxy the political left has fallen in love with being not only ahead of their time but transcending time altogether to define both the past, present & future by whatever they think can fill the void of purpose & service that religious devotion has held traditionally. Meanwhile the right has catered to this cultural shift as well. Considering our culture is driven by the left it is easier to analyze in it's political evolution. Btw this isn't necessarily saying that religious devotion is a good or bad thing but that it is a condition in the human condition that demands our serious and conscious confrontation lest our ignorance of it allows it to possess our politics on both sides and plays out in the multiplicity of forms of justified oppression.

One thing I like that works for me while watching Joe Rogan, is that I can either watch the 3-4 hour stretch, OR I can watch a 10-minute segment about a specific topic. Nothing wrong with having both.
Don't really have the time to listen through the whole thing, so I'm happy that you did this excerpt, it was really interesting. Kinda adds a bit to the understanding of Jordan Petersons rising popularity, for example. Not saying much against him I found most of the things he says very useful.
@@CJT49 nah, I may have worded my question in a way that comes off as mocking but i did mean it sincerely. I don’t think Wallace is remembered much by anyone. Most know him as a meme from the discussions I’ve had.
Broke: This camera angle is poorly done
Woke: This camera angle is ironically bad
Bespoke: This camera angle has gone post irony back to sincerely bad
Meta: It's just another camera angle. Whether it's ironic or not, is just your interpretation of what has been given.

This is so claustrophobic.
Lack of head space
Take a. Breath, pussy
This feels like it was filmed in the late 90s/early 2000s. Don't know if it was intentional or not but I like it

I went down a rabbit hole, so greetings :) I can't wait for your other opinion pieces :)
If this is what the new show is gonna be like, then I can't wait to see more. Superb insight into a fascinating topic.
Congrats on your 1M subscriptions! 🥳🥳🥳
fantastic content. not fantastic camera angle lol
Late to this party, but Bojack Horseman started out dark and funny but just became dark
The most meta-modern part of this video, is that I think the interview is a gig about interviewing yourself.
This is effing great
Very interesting
I like how bad this angle is tho. Like it's on purpose
Also called new sincerity I believe, cool interview.
My 2 favorites
Baby Zilla!
what is the name of the person speaking?
The camera cropped it

Hahaha was this camera angle deliberate?
Irony? You mean sarcasm? Is that what you kept meaning to say? Are you aware that they are not the same thing?
nope, they mean irony
@@teriyaki_chicken Oh, this is too damn confusing.
The Simpsons had some very touching moments of sincerity

Wallace who?
David Foster of the Wallace clan
Should be a from the waist up not chin up
While the critic of irony is valid how exactly is this a critic of post modernism? those two are not the same
Thise are a lod of vids
I need to A-B test a lot and see what people like. Do you like seeing more or less highlights?
