I'm just guessing. But the SF Bay is technically an estuary since it has fresh water entering via rivers feeding directly into it and is semi-enclosed by the Golden Gate. It is also the breeding ground for many species. Whereas Half Moon and Monterey Bays are pretty much open to the ocean and are completely saline.
13:21 I believe it's the surrounding. The ocean sandy bottom obviously is much cleaner and the sand is much brighter opaque white. Hence why the halibut are lighter to blend in. The fish actually looks around it's surrounding and camouflage to it's surround. The sad fact is, the bay area halibut gives you an idea how nasty the bottom / muddy bay floor it is.. haha. 🙄🙄
Great video Adam. That was a great trip to be able to go home with squid and some nice Halis for some great eats. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure I'll see you at La Jolla again soon.
Hi Adam, many fish can change colors based on the type of sediment. In this case it's sand. In the bay as well as areas near rain water runoff is silt from the dark soil. They change to there enviornment.
Sounds about right, almost all fish do this, and I think what his friend was referencing is that the ocean is cleaner and the bottom composition is generally sandy so the fish are lighter, and in the delta or bay the fish are darker based on the water color and silty bottom.
@@morganyoder4277 I've caught many a halibut in the '80s into the '90s from Ventura to San Diego going on "party" boats. Then you get to see many species that we all target. My biggest was 29 lbs. it was caught in 70 ft. of water, it was a dark brown overall. The ones I caught near the shore, even not recommened shallow water, they tended to be the typical colors seen here.
@@thresher4 that makes sense based on light penetration. I’m out in Fresno, so I don’t ocean fish much, but I’ve noticed the same thing in the bass out here.
I think that most people have only had grocery store or restaurant fish that are caught en masse die from suffocation, which makes the flesh have all the cortisol and other nasty tasting compounds in it. That's probably why fish have a reputation for having that taste. The fish that are caught and immediately bled out taste way better than any grocery store ones and I'll never go back to buying fillets lol
Exactly, you want the blood drained, your meat is alot more white and it does cut down on the fishy flavor like if you eat the grayish brown fat under their skin. To bleed them out really good you should make a slit across the tail where you would cut them to start skinning them.
I haven’t even watch the video yet just clicked on it but I’ll say again use salmon belly as bait with a spin and glow red and white with silver blades the magnum size
Adam you never fail to amaze me with all your hook ups. In Hawaii we call that Hanapa'a" hook up" 🪝 Adam what size rod are you using? I'm getting ready to move into the city from the country and I found a 2piece 9ft. Medium/Heavy rod amongst my many collection. So I'm gonna add 4 more guides and some special graphics for you if you don't mind.Anyway another epic video by Adam and the feast looks good. Stay safe out there " peace ".Aloha from Kansas
Love the fishing, but also love the feast. Hopefully you will include how you prepare the feast, that is why I love watching Taku videos as well. Your feast looked fantastic.
Again, living vicariously through you, Adam, great vid! I've been skunked so far this year on halibut. When you first got your new boat you asked what we'd like to see: I'd like to see how you read your fish finder, including how to read the squid. Great channel!
Adam. Just a tip. You may want to put in some noodle foam on those rods and the gaff. Just in case if it falls in, it will stay afloat for you to retrieve it.
when i was a kid living in montery 1959 ish, we used to go to the pier (not the tourist one) an watch the guys pull up buckets of squid there were LOTS of them and then go eat scaloni , squid and abalone mixed into a patty.. yummo good job on the squid and halibut !
Yeah man, I love it when Adam lightly mocks his rivals. He's such a nice guy, you can tell it's not in his nature, but he can't hide his pleasure in beating those guys to the fish. And never a wrong move to invite Tauk over for dinner... hahaha
I've seen you go from trying to unhook in the yak and getting beat up to doing the wrangle on the stringer, to the board for the measurements. It's not luck, a better fisherman is hard to find, thanks Adam!!!💪
I started getting into kayak fishing partly because of your channel. But now since I’m also in the Bay Area and I’m having a dry spell it’s so hard to watch your channel now. IM SO JEALOUS!
I wasn't even fishing 🎣 and I was worried 😫😫😫 cause sometimes after a miss gaff shot they go crazy 😧😦 and you can loose it great catch BROTHER happy for you. It's going crazy with the fishing 🎣🎣🎣🎣 . Take it home it looks like a sole good eating
Every time you put a fish on the stringer and throw it out the back, I think that’s not going to last long. Don’t you guys ever have problems with sharks or sea lions?
Excellent show Adam, I see not only you, but others are enjoying your new kayak w/electric motor! That clear blue water is intoxicating! I do notice you have great luck on not dropping your radio overboard, I am too clumsy, I would have it all on a tether,,,, that food was also great looking, show some more food porn! Thanks for sharing!
Adam you never fail to amaze me with the knowledge at any fish your after, now squid very nice. In Hawaii when we hook up we'd say Hanapa'a. Adam what size rod are you using? I found a 2 piece 9 ft. Med/Heavy action rod. I'm gonna add 4 more guides to this rod and add some graphics on it. This was amongst the many rods I have and I would like to send it your way if you don't mind. The feast looks really delicious great job. Another epic video by Adam stay safe out there "peace". Aloha from Kansas
Yup, more rod more chance of hooking up!
Food look delicious
If you had a choice between the old town motorized or the hobie pedal but you add an electric drive which would you choose
sand dab left eye, sole right eye
Come back to Washington so I can put you on a Colville centerpin!
Not a rhetorical question. But how why is SF bay considered not open ocean but Monterey Bay is not?
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

i bought those squid jigs from amazon, they didnt work too great, the line was really thick and i needed a heavy weight or they tangle up
what's the best way to wash and preserve wet suit?
Incredible fishing day!
Feels bad for Taku.
The catch ur own bait then fish vids are 👌. Adam ur legit bro. Keep it goin.
Thanks for posting!
agreed
Thanks for watching!!!
They change their color to match their background on the bottom.
Nice haul! I’d rather eat a dab than halibut, but it’s all great!

Great job, that looks like so much fun! Yeah those fish looked different then the bay ones, big white spots. That meal looked delicious!
Thanks Chris!!

What do squid look like on the sonar?

The smile you had on your face was the most genuine smile I've seen in a long time. That is true happiness

How do you find the squid on your fish finder ?
You don't have your pliers listed under accessories?
I will add them net time!
Hail Squid Master!
Any risk of parasites in the halibut sashimi?
Yes definitely need to check the meat thoroughly. Eat at you own risk lol
Nice catches
Nice gaffing shot dude.
I've seen you go from trying to unhook in the yak and getting beat up to doing the wrangle on the stringer, to the board for the measurements. It's not luck, a better fisherman is hard to find, thanks Adam!!!💪
Nice Halis! Thanks for another great video. Can’t get out to the bay or coast as often as I want, so I live vicariously through you and your vids.
Sounds like Taku on the background.
Off of work and greeted with a new vid from you, it is a good day
White sea bass if you are Monterey bay bro. They grow to over 65lbs.

4:45
Adam: Oh Yea!! This is a big one!
Everyone: Wait.. What?? Where did we hear that before.
Looked like a good day
Poor ole Taku ! Nice results there Adam .
Nice! Which pier can catch squid?
Sand sole
Don't you worry about sharks if you hang dead bleeding fish in the water?
Nice halis, Adam! I hate that when you go fishing with multiple people, someone always gets skunked, poor Taku! Oh well, the feast looked great!
It a pacific sanddab
Beautiful Monterey bay
3 fish and squid that's a nice catch. Good job and looks delicious.
When you hit 1,000,000...Famous words. "My Opinion "
Adam...you might have outfish Taku. But he literally had the last laugh by making a better dish. lol
Awesome catches. Would love to see the cooking🤣 LOL but I get it
Adam remembers getting hit by a boat
Can't do the sushi but the cooked fish looks amazing.
What rod are you using in the video? I checked in the description of the video but it's different from what your using
I'm asking about then blue rod
It is a ray fishing legend salmon rod
9 foot
Thanks
Good fish! Looks like fun! That one small flat fish looks like our flounder on the East Coast.
Taku you needed Jocelyn- she's you're luck charm remember she caught that salmon.
Dope video brody! Whenever you post. I have to watch. I’m from LA and I feel like the bay has a way better fishery than here for sure.
They are very good eating. Check out how the Pinoys cook them.
Dang that looks amazing! Is it weird that I want to watch you eat it? Lol...
I started getting into kayak fishing partly because of your channel. But now since I’m also in the Bay Area and I’m having a dry spell it’s so hard to watch your channel now. IM SO JEALOUS!
You’ll get them! The season is still early
Lol, Taku. Nice vid man. Nice that you’re using your own bait too, super dope. ✌️❤️🍻🖖
Nice video! I always yearn to hop on a kayak and go fish except I can't swim and am such a scaredey cat. I'm happy fishing from the banks for now.
HEY DUDE ...NO BODY EATS RAW HALIBUT ! YOU MUST BE * * *
Every time you put a fish on the stringer and throw it out the back, I think that’s not going to last long. Don’t you guys ever have problems with sharks or sea lions?
I have never had a problem but I don’t leave it in the water for long
Just enough for the fish to bleed out
The harder you work, the luckier you get
Excellent show Adam, I see not only you, but others are enjoying your new kayak w/electric motor! That clear blue water is intoxicating!
