    Pros:
    Quick turns, slow and medium speed, especially off piste
    Great flex for park/jumps/rails
    Cons:
    -Too quick and soft for aggressive freeriding or fast open powder/backcountry
    -Durability

    Just picked up the same model year + size. Probably my favorite design of all the mercurys out there - luckily found a brand new one and paid the retail price, searched for a year haha. Im a slightly smaller dude (5’8 175lbs) so the 57 feels perfectly stiff for me, almost too stiff to use as a full on park board. I came from a DOA and the difference in pop is completely noticeable, i can ollie, side hit, and jump off of anything with this board without much effort. I haven’t done any freeriding as of yet but i do feel the quick turning on the edge turns, however, it takes work (for me) to do so like when riding off piste or through moguls - coming up from 155 size boards. I will say it’ll hold a carve really well for as long as you want it (not really the case with the DOA). I must agree that the base is fast as hell! Never had a problem on cattracks or even riding on slush. Also will add that my base has held pretty strong, not as great as my DOA but ive already ridden through some browned areas and a few small rock gardens leaving with a few scratches but no core exposure (i can see it happening though). Anyways, wanted to share a different perspective for anyone out there looking to pick one up! Thanks for the dope review!

    Hey Scott! Thank you for the review, it's very to the point! How does Mercury perform on a hard icy morning slope on a high speed? Do you feel you have a full control and you can go really fast and carve, or you kind of start thinking of the speed and the way the board holds the slope, is it stable enough? Thank you

    • @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840
      @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840  3 роки тому

      Hi Ivan, if you’re riding hard, icy groomers this board holds up well. It is comfortable carving and transitioning to skidded turns. At high speeds if the groomed run is smooth-not a problem. If you’re going to run into bumpy terrain at high speed it could feel unstable

  • @j.s.6080

    Tried it on jumps and on the slopes with high expectations but felt that it only engages the edges in between the feet. I think I don''t like the rockered nose and tail. Kazu Pro or Supernova are def the better choice for me.

    Great review! These type of experienced reviews are very rare.
    Can you write how much do you wax that base? After how many days is it starting to slow down? Also what do you do for storing it during off season? Thank you!

    • @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840
      @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Marko! Thanks for the comment! Tbh I never found it getting slow but I would wax it every week or two regardless. Before storage for the summer I make sure to clean all the bases of my boards and give them all a generous wax. I don’t scrape them either until they’re ready to ride to keep dust and dirt away from the base! Keep your sintered base clean and waxed often ✌️

  • @MrRangerTexas
    @MrRangerTexas 3 роки тому

    Good review! Almost same feeling for my capita outsiders. The base is not very durable, the place near edge could miss small chunks after hitting small rocks. By the way, my capita outsiders becomes a flat board from a camber board after about 60 days of riding. Very SAD.

    Hey man! Dope review ! Real honest!
    I’m currently on a 159 bsod , use it for hard charging, carving and pow days. I weigh 210 lbs. looking at a 155 . Do you think this size would be ideal for having a fun , spring slash/ all mountain side hit / work on butters and spins board to compliment the bsod ?

    • @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840
      @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840  3 роки тому

      It mainly depends on your size and terrain of your resort. If I had to say.. 155 is too small unless you’re a small person. 157 is my favourite all mountain size but I go bigger for my faster free riding boards. Hi Scott, can I also ask what’s the difference between the 2020 and 2021 Mercury, as the effective edge published was 1185mm in the 2020 vs. 1215mm for 2021 model (are the contact length still the same?) What does that mean for the Mercury and the feel of the ride?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey bro, nice review
    What binding/boot stiffness you riding on the mercury ?
    I'm roughly the same weight and height as you but I have a size 8us boot. Would a 155 be a bit wide for me and feel like a boat turning? Not sure if I would overpower the 153 as I'm over the weight recommendation but would be better for my boot size.
    Also how soft has the board got over the time you've had it ?

      Mid stiff NOW bindings and my boots are usually always pretty stiff but I was riding a softer pair last season and was good on the mercury. 155 would be fine for size 8 def won't feel like a boat. I rode it quite a bit for 2 seasons and I don't think its lost a lot of flex

    do you notice a directional flex on this board? most reviews seem to call this deck pretty twin-ish, but capita says the flex is directional on their website. do you think the tail is stiffer than the nose, or are they about the same? wondering because i’d really love to shift my bindings forward on this thing and ride it like a true park twin

    Hey man, great review. I’m in the process of purchasing one at the moment, but waiting for the 22-23 to release here in Japan.
    Quick question on the size - I’m 5’11 180 pounds & boot size is an 11. I’m into the board given it’s a do it all in one, but I find myself constantly being more attached to powder & looking for back country.
    Would happen to know if a 158W would be the choice for me? Afraid of the toe drag on anything lower due to boot, but still would want something I won’t have too much difficulty if I decide to take it to the park.

    I do not recommend to size up this model! 159 has really wide stance, it is a pain of my soul and my knees))) really like the board, i’m exactly your weight and 178 high... It has good float in pow and stable on speed, but for park too stiff and it was real trouble to do 360 with untypical wide stance for me... It is my 4th board, but only now i’ve started to check the reference stances))

    Hi Scott, thanks a lot for this video. An awesome one! Can I ask for your height and weight so I can understand a little bit more on why you feel its not as stiff and "freeridy" enough for you in a harder charging runs. Additionally, posting my questions from the other video that somehow disappeared.
    Here goes!:
    I'm stopped in my footsteps for a little bit and hesitant to go ahead buying the Mercury. So Just want to double confirm that with your years of experience, you would think that the Mercury is/is not suitable for me. Sorry about this, my stats and experience as mentioned below:
    Stats about me: 170-177lbs, 5'9"
    Experience Level: Approximately 2 weeks of riding under belt - I can link turns in both directions on green, blue and red slopes. Have attempted Blacks, but mostly 'C' turns on them as mentioned. My turns are skidded "S" shape turns with little to no carve lines (But learning like your "BEGINNER TIPS FOR EDGE" video; mostly skidded but I am able to control my speed if I feel it’s uncomfortable (Less on CAT Tracks, which I have bump into the sidehit or self induced fall to stop... Waiting for your video! Haha!). Boarded at Mount Hotham in icy Australia and did okay okay on Blue/Red equivalent-Intermediate runs except for flat cat tracks where i kept catching an edge. Board used prior to this: Bought a second hand YES Basic (2011-2013 model) for a dirt cheap price instead of using rentals. Days Planned to ride yearly: On average 14-28 days / year.
    Thanks once again!

    • @hunterpercentsnowboarding3840

      Get the Mercury! You won’t regret it! It is a performance board but still easy to ride for even a low intermediate. You just need to decide between a 55 or 57, which would be depending on the resort and terrain you’re riding. Smaller resort and mostly park? 155. Larger resort or more interested in freeriding powder and off piste, 157.
      The disadvantages only come into play with the expert rider who demands a lot from a freeride board. I love it as a park board 💯

      @@hunterpercentsnowboarding3840 Thank you very much Scott! I don't I'll become an expert anytime soon :P so this board will definitely last me a long time. What made me hesitate was mainly the camber profile as I'm just afraid it may be too aggressive and keep catching an edge and also the flex (hand flexed it in the store and it was stiff, or maybe I didn't know how to handflex well) ... We'll see I'll probably go ahead and get it (bonus: the graphics on 2021 model is sick too). Thanks again! Super underrated channel.
