    Just a tip: if you're looking to take care of your hair - it's much better to wrap your hair in a tshirt or a microfiber towel rather than a regular towel as cotton can pull on your hair follicles causing damage. It's also much better to sleep on a silk pillowcase rather than a cotton one for the same reasons :)

    • @wolfferoni
      @wolfferoni 3 роки тому +19

      I started using shirts to dry my hair last year and it's much better. I recommend long sleeved shirts because you can use the arms to tie the shirt securely to your head so you have your hands free for doing other things. I don't have issues with hair breakage, just hair falling out so I don't use the silk/ satin pillowcase thing. Some people love it, some can't deal with it and apparently slide off because of how slippery it is?

    • @vikkumari
      @vikkumari 3 роки тому +11

      I don't use T-shirts like many videos suggest. I put my head in the collar upside down and then flip my head so the shirt is like a tube around my hair and then I twist and tuck the tip into the collar like I used to do with a towel. I feel like this is so much easier than the plop method but maybe there is a downfall of this method? But I have done it for 5 years with no problem other than strange looks from roommates.

    26yo male here, and I can absolutely relate to what Rachel has said about having to actively take better care of your body with aging. For the past 3-5 years my body has been giving me unambiguous signals that it is falling apart as a consequence of my lifestyle. 4 years ago my back was absolutely fucked (slipped disc) because I neglected excercise for a long time (about 2 years), and diet, something I have never cared about before, has unintentionally become an integral part of my life.
    At my height, when I was around 17-20, I used to excercise 2-4x a week (running 10km plus muscle excercises) and it was enough for my well-being, without having to be conscious about what and when I eat. But now, even though I have started excercising regularly again (swimming 2h 2x a week; I really recommend it, it takes so much less toll on your body than running) it is not enough for me to feel balanced and energised.
    Take care of your health guys & girls! It's not just a trope people say for the fun of it, you will feel the consequences of your lifestyle sooner or later - I had to learn that the painful way.

    Re the hair thinning as you get older conversation: As an older woman who watches a lot of youtube and sees a lot of youtubers getting older and starting to talking about changes their bodies are going through and sometimes thinking there's stuff wrong with them, there's a lot of stuff regarding aging I think just hasn't been ever really been talked about or explained to young people.
    In Jr high and High school we had Health or Sex Ed classes that started to explain the changes you go through in adolesence but once you're out of the education system you're left to figure all the next bits out yourself. If you don't have good health experts in your life you could be floundering around for ages not knowing if something is ok or a warning sign of bigger issues. Lots of changes in your thrities, and for women particularly in your forties. I think it's kinda great there are these online communities where more people can have conversations about these things, but it's also a bit sad or frustrating as people can get really caught up in a sort of 'fear of aging' or get a lot of bad information easily thanks to weird fad trends on the internet. So much industry is directed towards 'looking young and beautiful' as opposed to aging gracefully and adjusting to healthy lifestyles that are tailored to an aging body.
    This is a long way to say I'm glad Rachel sometimes shares this kind of thing as I think aging related stuff is something we all should be able to talk about more and be comfortable with.

    I highly recommend a silk bonnet to control frizz, satin is also great and cheaper than silk. I put on my bonnet just after blow drying most of the way, at the point that you put your hair in a braid. This can also give gorgeous big waves, I twirl my hair into a bun before putting on the silk bonnet and even if it falls out of the tight bun the hair is still twirled and will set in lovely waves. I do this right before bed and sleep with the bonnet on, this has the added benefit of reducing friction from the pillowcase on your hair which means fewer split ends and less frizz.

      It’s not perfectly normal at all and neither is the USA propaganda telling us we look older because we’re aging. Look at other countries. White hair has become the norm here but it is NOT normal compared to other countries overseas. We lack copper for one thing. We suffer from malnutrition and that is a fact plus we are bombarded by toxins continually. Look at all of the products for “falling” hair. When they change the wording of anything, take notice. Try looking at all of the things in our lives that cause hair loss. You’ll be flabbergasted. There is nothing normal about any of this. How can everyone be so incredibly clueless about Fukushima? You think it doesn’t exist if they’re not telling you about it on tv? Your radiation levels in Japan are enough to cause you hair loss and they are too high here in America too. That is the truth.

    I learnt that cotton towels contribute to frizzy hair while microfibre towels don't, which is why many people around me use a microfibre towel to dry their hair. Further, pillows supposedly are subject to the same issue and I got myself a silk cover. It is hard to tell whether it makes a difference, at least I have nothing negative to report.
    Regarding silicones, I learnt that a differentiation of different types is necessary to make a judgement: The water soluble ones are supposed to be fine whereas the water-resistant ones (more commonly used in cheaper products) should be avoided. As far as I know, the "bad" ones don't necessarily damage anything but they affect the texture in a potentially undesired way and they also give a "false sense of security" as silicones may cover up hair damage, which however does not go away. There is a chance one may fail to apply necessary changes or improvements in hair care with regular silicone use, it basically distorts the feedback.
    (I feel so girly talking about hair care :) good to deconstruct clichés.)

    First of all your hair looks sooo gorgeous! Definetly going to take on your tip on parting the hair for more volume! 😁
    A couple years ago I was surffering from depression and sadly because of that I lost a lot of my hair and it became really fragile overall, it's taken me a very long time to be able to grow it back out without it thinning on the ends. Thankfully its starting to come back now and i've learned a couple tricks along the way id love to share with you!
    My first tip is to use hairproducts with less or no perfume if possible (this is a hard one because its sooo satisfying when you get out of the shower smelling great😅) perfume though can be pretty drying to your hair, causing it to break easier, resulting in thinner ends.
    My second tip would be to change your pillowcase to a satin one. Satin mainly doesnt absorb oils or moisture as much as a cotton pillowcase would, resulting in your hair becoming less dry and wont break as easily. (This is also great for your skin as the products wont absorb into the pillow!!)
    As you said though you cant reverse an already damaged hair strand but you can definetly delay the process. I've noticed some good results doing this! There are also hair turbans in satin you can sleep with to avoid friction from your pillow when you sleep. My hair also becomes less frizzy since I switched to satin.
    I hope some of these tips were helpful!😄 Wishing you both a great new year and that you stay in good health. Hugs from Sweden 💖
