ELECTRICIANS' TIPS - SMALL hole to BIG hole using a double hole saw

  • A common problem - how to enlarge an existing electrical knockout. In this example, we enlarge an existing hole from 25mm to 64mm
We use a Mandrex hole saw with a special hole magnifier adaptor which allows 25 and 64mm hole saws to be used simultaneously.

Been an electrician for 15 years. Cooling gel has yet to be provided by the contractor. Instead, they order tons of hole saws, encourage blasting through at top speed and then expect you to just toss the dull bit in the trash.

I use these kind of hole saws to cut holes in stainless steel. I literally NEVER use cooling gel or oil or anything. You just keep it in first gear, and apply even firm pressure. You’ll get 500+ plus holes out of them if you just run them in first gear.

Or you could just lay out the hole and start it on an angle where the smallest surface area hits your laid out line then tilt it square to finish the penitration. No extra tool necessary
