i was walking by their concert in an outdoor festival in edmonton,AB never heard of them before but man i sat down and watched their whole concertXD very good live.
Saw them last nite in kamloops, was an amazing show luv these guys. I could believe how many different type of people where there, young and old. You guys rocks . Peace and luv boys.
I new a Gordie growing up, bright kid, good with people good with girls, brought people together, but he fucked it all up, destroyed his mind with pills, now he is constantly in and out of mental institutions without a friend in the world.. was a good friend of mine. and this song never fails to bring him to mind.
+soulfulimpressions Been to a few shows and was lucky enough to hear the story behind this one: Apparently, he was jamming at a buddies place and his buddies' dad would talk about how he grew up with Gord Downie (from the Tragically Hip) and how he was better than Gord Downie. Blah blah blah... Basically, his argument was that if you were as good as Gord Downie, then why didn't you make it big and travel around playing live? Anyways, pretty cool story and thought I would share. The second verse makes more sense after hearing this story.
What a great song... a tribute before one was needed though it was always deserved. "I wanna be like Gord Downie..."
My favourite song by the sons. I love playing this song. So simple yet so elegant.
Love this band.
One of the best new bands I've heard in a long time

He says "I wanna be like Gord Downie" right in the song (1:42 into song)
